journal and other form of literature are analysed to get better understanding in the selected topic
based on phenomena of Grieving process along with its set objective.
To understand the concept of grief
According to Shiel. W. C., 2018, the grief is refers to the normal process of reacting to the
loss which can be physical loss (such as death), occupational (such as job loss or business) or it
can be social loss (Divorce). This grief includes certain kind of emotional reactions such as guilt,
anger, anxiety, despair and sadness. The grief is mainly associated with the death of familiar to
most people but when it is about individual grieve then it is represented in form of variety of
losses related with employment, illness or end of nay relationship. The physical reaction that can
be seen within patient during grief can be identified as change in Appetit, depression, physical
illness, sleeping issues etc. which affect the health and well being of a person badly. Further, it
has been evaluated that there is no specific way or common one way that leads to grief in an
individual’s where as it can be something that can be created due to any big or small reason.
Many models and theories are also evaluated to develop better understanding about the concept
of grief which comprises of Kübler-Ross Model (Palmer, Saviet and Tourish, 2016). This model
of Kübler-Ross Model consist of 5 main stages. This model of grief was originally and basically
designed with the main aim of explaining the grieving process which is involved in death process
and provides condolence to the victims of Parental Alienation but further it also focuses on other
kind of grief also that was created by and over the loss of marriage and relationship of an
individual. There are five most common stages and feelings that are faced and encountered by an
individual’s when they are in grief an evaluation and analysis of which has been provided below:
Denial- It is the first stage of grief where an individual is seemed to say that they are fine
and does not believe that what has been happening to them. Denial is basically a temporary stage
and taken as a defence by individuals in starting of their grief (Stages and Concepts for Grief: Is
One Way Better Than Another?, 2020). Denial is mainly a reflection and created due to the
feeling of sadness and soon replaced with a heightened awareness of an individual regarding
their loss of possessions. Denial is seen as the first stage of grief in the individuals who are left
behind and over looked by the death or loses of any family member mainly by the death of one’s
parents or children’s.
Anger- This aspect of grief represents the felling of unfairness and un-acceptance which
lead to anger and mainly comprises of questions of carer like “why this happens to me?” “It’s not

fair to me”, etc. Thus, anger is the second stage of grief which taken place the felling of denial as
it cannot be continued for long. This, feeling of anger developed in the carer creates many
difficulty and make is hard for nursing as it lead to a felling of rage and envy on loss and death
of their loved one (Supiano, Haynes and Pond, 2017). Sometimes anger consists of a mixed
felling of rage, hatred and envy on which leads to losing of self control that makes the conditions
more worst for both carer and nursing to handle the situation of grief.
Bargaining- The next stage of grief comprises of bargaining where the carer seemed to
offer anything to the doctors and nurse for saving the life of their loved once along with the hope
that the doctors can postpone or delay the death and miss happening to thee lived once. Usually
this negotiation and bargaining is done by the carer in order to buy some time in exchange of a
reformed lifestyle and comprises of a psychological imbalance in attitude and behaviour of carer
created by the fear of losing their loved one (Jones, 2020).
Depression- the next and most risky stage of grief comprises of feeling of depression
where the patient and their carer becomes to feel and understand the certainty of death and looses
all hopes. Under depression the carer seemed to become silent and refuse to talk and starts crying
and grieving. It also comprises a low feeling and ignorance of love and affection due to huge
grief and sadness and it is the time where efforts made by nursing to make carer normal seems
un-impactful thus, they should provide time for grieving.
Acceptance- It is the final stage of grief were individuals seemed to accept their loss and
starts fighting with their grief to again become normal and back to life (Flux, Hassett and
Callanan, 2020). For making life’s of carer normal, the nursing plays a vital role through leading
proper condolence and emotional support for carer.
To determine the common losses experience by carers who are in grief.
As per the perception of Affifi, R. and Christie, B., 2019, being a carer journey unfolds
several type of changes that mainly occurs and losses may accumulated at varied pace of
journey. This in turn creates a burden of grief which in turn seems to be insurmountable. The
grief is rarely remain articulated but despite of that it remain hidden under the emotions or day to
day practices concerns which involve in caring of someone with disability or illness. While
performing their role, the carer usually faces certain kind of losses such as lost of economic
security, loss of privacy and personal space, loss of normal role, loss of job, time, control,
freedom and many more as per the situation present in front of them (Lowers, Hughes and

freedom and many more as per the situation present in front of them (Lowers, Hughes and
5

Preston, 2020). Thus, it can be evaluated that the felling of grief leads to many losses for carer a
better evaluation of which is provided below:
Loss of health and mental peace- The most common loss lead by the grief in the carer
comprises of negative effects on the mental and physical health of an individuals. It has been
evaluated that a feeling of grief and stress lead by the any kind of loss or miss-happening directly
impacts the heath and normal living of an individual as a severe heartbreak of grief can lead to
increase in the blood pressure in carer and also enhance the risk of blood clots that negatively
impacts the health of an individual (The concept of grief: An analysis of classical and
contemporary thought, 2020). Further, high level of sadness also hampers the mental peace of an
individual’s that leads and associated with the destructive feeling and act of depression. Thus,
loss of physical and mental health along with taken away of mental peace are the most common
losses experience by carers who are in grief.
Economical and financial loss- apart from the loss of health the feeling of grief also
leads to economical and financial loss for carer as it seems more difficult to maintain a normal
life thus, these individuals face many difficulties at jobs and while performing routine economic
activities which hampers and lead to reduction in their work efficiency which leads to risk for
their economical and financial aspects (Daniels-Howell, 2020). The feeling of stress and anger
generated due to the grief makes it difficult for carer to keep a balance in its economic and
financial activity that leads to trouncing in form of monetary loss and even in form of loss of job
due to high level of anger and stress at workplace.
Tiredness and fatigue- The another loss and negative complication of grief faced by carer
is associated with feeling of tiredness and fatigue that is not good for their physical health and
also leads to reduction in their efficiency and level of growth. High level of stress and grief
makes an individual’s more tired-some and incompetent that leads to loss of their finical and
economical aspects and also leads negative impact on there normal courses of life. A negative
impact on mind set and attitude of individuals and carer is also lead by grief which hampers there
relationship and behaviour with other people (Ogunbanjo, 2020).
The ways to support and guide the carer who is grieving due to some loss.
As per the information presented by Smith. M., Robinson. L and Segal. J., 2019, when a
carer is facing a grief due to loss of someone then they mainly struggle with bereaved with many
of the intense as well as painful emotions which incudes anger, guilt, depression and sadness.

They also started feeling lonely as the intense pain and difficult emotions may make people
uncomfortable regarding the offering of support. In order to guide the carer to deal with
situation, one must try to listen to them, try to acknowledge the situation, express concern they
are having and let that individual talk about the loss he/she has face and what they are feeling
current. Then one must focuses toward providing their assistance and support by helping them in
their day to day activities and make them involve in outer world to overcome from grieving
situation. The ways and strategies that could be adopted to support and guide the carer who is
grieving due to some loss are evaluated and analysed as below:
Allow yourself to grieve and cry- The first and foremost step to overcome a grief as
allowing yourself to grieve and accept the loss along with crying to overcome state of depression
and inner sadness. Crying is taken a vital way to make someone realise of their loss and make
them accept the loss so that they can be directed or guided to bring back on the normal courses o
life with acceptance of that loss and grief (dos Santos, Ali and Szylit, 2020). Further, crying and
allowing grieve is also a vital way to overcome felling depression through exploring and
expressing emotions which is the first step of healing process from a grief.
Help in creating positive feeling and memories- The another way that could be adopted
to console and support a carer who is grieving comprises of helping them with making some
positive gesture of support and leading healthy and optimistic feeling in them through sharing
some past memories and the good time to bring them back to normalcy. Thus, the act of
guidance and support for grieved person must comprises of some positive and fun memories to
bring them back towards their normal course of life (Morrigan, Keesing and Breen, 2020).
Stay Connected and Talk to family, friends, and service providers- The another way of
supporting carer who is grieving due to some loss comprises of staying connected with them and
talking regularly with the family and other friends to overcome from the loss and feeling of grief.
Beside this, proper support and guidance should also be taken from professional nursing and
carer support groups that motivates and encourages an individual to live there normal life again
by overcoming there grief.
Motivate for healthy diet and sound sleep- The another way to guide and support carer who
is grieving due to some loss comprises of motivating them for a taking a healthy diet and sound
sleep that is necessary and vital for having mental peace and overcome the loss of health. Thus, it
can be evaluated that leading a healthy meal along with a sound and proper sleep and rest are

CHAPTER 3: METHODOLOGY
This section of a research project set out information regarding the various techniques
and approaches used for conducting and leading out a research work which comprises of
collection of data, analysis of data along with its interpretation and communication (Meichsner
and Wilz, 2018). Following set of research methods and design would be used by the researcher
for conducting current investigation.
Research Philosophy- It is basically a set of four main types of research philosophies
which comprises of positivism, realism, pragmatism and interpretivism form of philosophies.
From the set of these common types of research philosophies use and implication of Positivism
type of philosophy has been made by the nature based in the numeric and quantifiable nature of
current investigation (Supiano, Haynes and Pond, 2017). Further, adoption of positivism type of
research philosophy also seemed suitable and justifiable as it ensures and leads to most
systematic and scientific way of conducting an investigation.
Research approach- this comprises of two common form of research approaches named
as deductive and inductive and used to provide a framework for better analysis and scanning of
collected data (Palmer, Saviet and Tourish, 2016). With respect to current investigation, adoption
and use of deductive approach is seemed to more justifiable as it ensures better testing and
scanning of numeric data and leads a measurable framework for investigation to have better
implication and analysis of results.
Research design : The design adopted for performing an investigation plays a significant
role in forming up the structure as well as pattern of presenting information throughout the study.
there are several kind of research designs which are used to perform a particular investigation
such as exploratory, explanatory, descriptive design etc. Among them all the exploratory
research design will be consider to perform this investigation.
