GUEST SPEAKER SPEECH
Guest speaker 1:
Summary of Guest Speaker- The first speaker spoke about the challenges he faced
in commencing with his business. He discussed about the recent trend recruitment
though Facebook, therefore emphasizing on social media platforms being increasingly
used for recruitment of new employees. He stressed on an important issue about not
focusing on the destination but on the journey. He was of the opinion working in a
company would render experience to the person. It should not be considered as the
final destination. He wanted to become a primary school teacher but he quit that job
as did no find it suitable to his temperament. He learnt German and realized that it
was not an easy course. He wanted to do something different. We will move from the
companies and enjoy at each stage of the company you are. His motto in life is no to
concentrate on the results. Technology is changing. Companies he has worked for an
overview. He started in the marketing department, when he in second year. He has
worked in Adidas that faced Puma. He worked in the marketing operations. During
the 80 months, there is a team that worked with the stage of design to manufacturing
and he was bestowed free stuff. He had the opportunity to interact with people who
belonged to diverse communities. His instilled in him the passion to work. According
to this an advantage of working with global companies as they give you exposure,
make you appreciative, tolerant and aware about different cultures and you get to
learn the value of pluralism (Inc.com 2018). He learnt a lot throughout his journey.
During the period of recession when he finished his masters, there was a crisis for
employment. He had to compete with people who are much senior than him. The big
corporate he worked it was not his cup of tea. His felt happiness is more than
paycheck. He started hating himself when he started getting rejections.
Overview of Topics/ Facts/ Issues of Interest- He said one should not be get
influenced by people and what he is doing with his life. Job interviews can begin with
internships where one does not salary. He had experience n advertising and that
helped him to understand the world of advertising better. He wanted to do something
different and wanted to come out of his comfort zone. He joined a small company to
gain experience and his contract ended after a year. Once a person start working with
reputed companies, the person tend to build networks that would be important for
professional career. It is not just about paycheque that interested him about working
with companies. Apart from Facebook, the company recruits through Instagram. As a
recruiter, I would be interested to take the person on-board who possesses the abilities
to apply the communication and interpersonal skills required for business
(Recruiterbox Business Guides 2018). Technology has ushered in revolution in
communication, this can be witnessed in the way the customers and potential
consumers interact with the brands
Research the topic or piece of technology stated by the Guests Facebook as a
tool of recruiting employees- Social media tools like Facebook, Linkedln and
Twitter provides an insight into the work profile and personal interests of a person
(Forbes.com 2018).This provides an opportunity to the interested companies to
screen, evaluate and select candidates for their companies. This kind of model has

widened to incorporate connections and networks to enable companies to choose their
potential candidates and is not limited to the individuals.
Personal Takeaways – One does not need to be a science people in order to recruited
in companies that involve technology. He had his share of challenges but he tried to
overcome these challenges and move beyond them. If you want to understand the
industry and marketing, you do not really need to be specialized in technology. His
message was pursue what your heart says rather than adhering to a profession that
does not match with temperament. It is not just about experiences but is about skills.
Know the culture of the company and they will feed your curiosity. If a company does
not match your personality or expectations do not involve yourself with that company.
Be hungry and humble. It is all about how you get your work done and know your
weaknesses. Knowing your weakness is actually a sign of strength. It is important to
know your strengths and collect feedback to improve yourself (Matt, Hess and
Benlian 2015). A person need to continuously make an effort to improve oneself. He
is with Facebook. Never seek for favour but rather look for a job that suits you.
Failure is part and parcel of your career. Mentorship is important to survive in the
career. Professional career is not a smooth journey, sometimes people will learn the
hard way. The idea is to always keep striving and moving in your career. Stagnancy is
not desirable. Failure is the key to learning rising like a phoenix from the ashes.
Guest Speaker 2:
Summary of Guest Speaker- The second speaker intended to share the experiences
that he has accumulated throughout his career journey and those experiences are not
necessarily about him. He began his journey working as a consultant. He is interested
in transforming business. His salary is based on what people want to do in life. He
was good in academics although he was interested in what he was doing. He joined
the sales as it was considered as a safe career. After pursuing his CA, he chose a safe
job as suggested by many people. During his second year in college, he came across a
range of companies during his placement time that were offering lucrative
remuneration. He heard that that a successful career spans around getting a job that
covers the investment made on education and guarantees free lunch. He did not get a
good opportunity right after he completed his college. He did three years of degree in
college and then went on to pursue one year of masters. He initially found it difficult
to make a mark. He worked with PWC and spent three and a half years of life with the
company. He spoke about the perception of people that if someone has a background
in finance, the person would not be able to work in sales. After spending an arduous
amount of time in education, he felt that the job he was associated with was not all the
effort. Therefore, he decided to quit his job. He left PWC after his contract got over.
He went on an introspective mode at that stage of his life contemplating about the
futility of his career considering the kind of education he has received. The job he did
so far did not match with his temperament. Then Google recruited him and his

motivation for working with the company was great work culture, free supply of food,
incentives and rewards, and other perks. This time he realized that if he cannot
survive in this company, then he would not be able to survive in any other company.
Therefore, Google became a turning point in his career. He was interviewed by the
sales team
Overview of Topics/ Facts/ Issues of Interest-Throughout his life, he has heard from
people that one should be in a job that covers the cost of his graduation and masters.
This emphasizes on the notion of education as investment and the expectation of
return from that investment
Research the topic or piece of technology stated by the Guests – The speaker
spoke about smartphone, laptop and smartwatch that connect with internet and
provide a plethora of information. He was speaking about connecting devices. Smart-
connecting devices have revolutionized the business model of companies through the
creation of disruption. Companies these days are making use of smart-connecting
devices to reach out to their market and gain a competitive advantage over other
companies. Therefore, connecting devices that connect to the internet has a huge
potential in generating money and expand one’s business.
Personal Takeaways- He was associated with Google for a period of nine long years
and he had to begin from the starch to reach the top level of management. His salary
was based on his performance and the salary was quite lucrative. However, he felt that
he did not see himself pursuing this career for the rest 35 years. He picked up many
skills due to his association and experiences in different companies that he was taught
not in college. Interview can sometimes turn out to be an intimidating and exhausting
process. He emphasized on work-life balance and the need to interact with friends and
not forget their contributions. He picked up skills that are not readily available.
Extra-curricular activities are very important. First activity in the morning that he
does is checking his phone. Everything that we use is technology-driven. It is
important to self-assess and understand about the uniqueness of oneself. Everyone has
the same degree but it is important to rise above conventional degree. It is a
competitive environment and the candidate needs to realize that s/he is not just
competing with the immediate peers but also many other people who have acquired
the same degree (Paulins, Hillery and Sturgill 2016). One need to understand what
makes them stand out from the rest and compel the recruiters to recruit you (Goleman
2017).It is crucial to enjoy the job that one is doing. The resume of a person need to
demonstrate the adequate skills especially leadership skills that would veer companies
towards an individual. Training is important to realize the potential. He argued that it
is not necessary that one will get their dream job right after completing their college
education. In fact, it may take longer time than expected. Therefore, it is important to
patient and at the same time seeks experiences until the candidate finally finds his/her
dream job. There can be bad jobs but experiences cannot be bad. The experiences
accumulated from each of the odd jobs in the life of an individual will be useful
during the pursuit of the dream job. It is important to be ready and grab the
opportunities (Yıldız, Baştürk and Boz 2014). The competitive advantage would be
the experience, resume and knowledge about technologies in case one wants to
succeed in the domain of technology.
