Songs have always been a good source of transmitting messages to a large group of
population. The present essay has discoursed upon a famous composition of Guy Sebastian’s
song titled “Get Along”. Herein, the prime objective of this song along with its targeted set of
audience has been explained to further determine the message of this song to people where it has
indicated the significance of everyone’s religion with distinct socio- cultural norms.
"Get Along" is a song performed by Guy Sebastian in 2012. He and Ian Barter (producer
of the composition) wrote it to deal with the damages inflicted by religious, cultural and racial
tolerance. In this song, he asks, "Can we all just along?". He has emphasized people from all the
races to forget their different cultures and antithetic religions. This composition has stated about
the situation in which people nowadays are not being able to live together in peace. This lyrical
triumph shows the superior quality of his voice along with a beautiful message to the people who
do partiality on the basis of their values, beliefs, morals, etc. First of all, I love the idea behind
the song of everyone getting along irrespective of race, culture or religion. Also, I believe that
the world is having so much problems because we cannot get along. If we all unite together
despite of the differences in beliefs, we would already have heaven on Earth. Furthermore, in my
opinion, the world is having so many problems for not being able to get along.
Among all these factors, I believe religion is one of the biggest factor that convey people
(Sebastian) words like, "Dear God, dear soul, dear Mary, Mohammed. Can we all just get
along?”. It is a clear message to people with different religions to unite together. I think this is
the major cause behind most of the activities of terrorism. Also, it has been observed that people
kill each other because they cannot accept that someone can have a different spiritual thinking
than their own. For instance, the severity of terrorism caused by ISIS for forcing people to accept
Islam. With the help of his composition, Guy Sebastian is transmitting a message and that is to
allow others to have their own beliefs. In addition to this, I really liked his way of representing
the difference between rich and poor by "Some only want some shelter, Someone a mansion in
the sky". I think that acceptance does not only mean that "everyone is right".
The target audience which is aimed are the people who does differentiation on the basis
of race, culture, religion and prosperity. The message that is delivered to them is to forget the
parameters of differentiation and live in peace. Sebastian has performed this song by using
different elements that generates different moods like sadness, anger, Depression, irritation,

emotional, etc. The emotive elements used in the composition got the attention of people. This
tactic of adding different emotions in the song has made audience to relate the song with their
own self and influenced them to apply their beliefs on others. Thus, it enhances the stimuli of the
audience and this raises the calibre to accept the message. Further, they are proved to be the
most significant factor after the success of the composition. In addition to this, the ups and
downs involved in the song were helped in maintaining the interest of the target audience.
The message that is transmitted from the song is really beautiful. It is observed that the
tool, "emotive element" which the singer has used to influence people is effective in terms of the
message given to the audience through it. This refers to the words used by the singer stating
“Can we all get along”. Besides this, it has been ascertained that after hearing the song, one can
feel so many emotions such as sadness, anger, peace, etc. through which they can feel
themselves connected to it. The message, "Uniting people of different race, culture and religion"
is conveyed to the listeners and readers.
