The mission statement of Hampton Veteran Affairs Medical Center is to honour the
veterans of America by providing excellent healthcare that improves the health of the veterans
and their well being.
The policies and procedures of Hampton Veteran Affairs Medical Center include
Integrity, Commitment, Advocacy, Respect and Excellence. Integrity refers to the honesty of
character and therefore acting honestly and with veracity and having high moral standards, and
also abiding by high professional principles and keeping the faith and trust with everybody that
one interacts and engages. Commitment refers to being committed to work meticulously to serve
Veterans and other recipients. To being driven by the belief in the mission of Veteran Affairs and
fulfill one’s individual responsibilities as well as organizational responsibilities. Advocacy refers
to advocating the rights of the veteran and ensuring veterans and other beneficiaries are not
deprives of the medical services in any way. Respect refers to the notion of treating everybody
with the utmost respect and dignity, the underlying principle being to show respect in order to
earn respect. Excellence refers to the notion of striving for excellence, being thoughtful and

medicines, providing rehabilitation, home care as well as transitional care (Hampton, 2018).
Their low vision clinic helps veterans who are visually impaired moderately lead a more
independent and fulfilling life. They also provide services for mental health. Under the mental
health program, the Hampton Veteran Affairs Medical Center offers consultation in psychiatric
problems, evaluation and the consecutive treatment of a plethora of issues that can have an
adverse affect on the emotional well-being of a person. They have a well-stocked pharmacy
where they process more than two thousand five hundred prescriptions every day. The primary
care program offers a gamut of treatments with an emphasis on the prevention of health care.
They also provide psychology services and research. Under the Rural Health Initiative, a team at
the Hampton Veteran Affairs Medical Center travel through Virginia and North Carolina to
provide medical assistance to veterans living in rural areas which is truly commendable. The
social work program at the Hampton Veteran Affairs Medical Center is a vital part of health
care. Their social work program helps veterans with community service and psychological
counseling. Under the specialty care program of Hampton Veteran Affairs Medical Center, they
offer specialties in surgery along with neurology, oncology, radiation and audiology. Under the

spinal cord injury program, the Hampton Veteran Affairs Medical Center provides
comprehensive and utmost care to veterans who have suffered from spinal cord injuries,
including surgery and rehabilitation. Under the Telehealth program, the Hampton Veteran
Affairs Medical Center helps veterans to manage persistent medical problems from home. The
Virtual Lifetime Electronic Record of Health Programs of Hampton Veteran Affairs Medical
Center is a program that shares only selected parts of a veteran’s medical history with other
approved health care institutes. The Women Veterans Health Program of Hampton Veteran
Affairs Medical Center offers medical services based exclusively on gender.

screening, treatment and prevention of this dreaded disease. The Hampton Veteran Affairs

military sexual trauma for both men and women veterans, polytrauma. The Hampton Veteran

medical rehabilitation, sensory and prosthetic services that promote the physical well-being for
veteran who are physically challenged. They also provide medical services related to
amputation, audiology and speech pathology. They also treat patients suffering from hearing
loss, evaluation and management of tinnitus, issue of hearing aids to veterans who require them
as they are unable to hear clearly, aural rehabilitation, cochlear implants among other services.
The Hampton Veteran Affairs Medical Center also provide speech language pathology. Speech
language pathology includes the evaluation of speech and the treatment of speech, swallowing
disorders and voice disorders, language, diagnostic assessment, provision of communication

services. The primary objective of recreation therapy is to improve the quality of life and

rehabilitative care, blind rehabilitation, injury of the brain, audiology and speech language
pathology and recreation therapy (Freud, 2018). Rehabilitation Services are committed to

providing a plethora of services to veterans and their families. It offers a gamut of medical
services and treatments to the veterans of The United States of America. It is based on noble
principles and offers financial services to veterans. It offers primary care in medicine, psychiatry
and surgery. Over the past one year, the Hampton Veteran Affairs Medical Center has seen a
seven percent increase among veterans seeking medical care. A state of the Art Women’s clinic
was designed to provide medical services to women. Expansions were made at the medical
center with the inclusion of the Spinal Cord Injury unit and also a medical unit for mental care.
