specialty care in surgery, medicine and psychiatry. Rooted in history the Hampton Veterans
Medical Center offers a comprehensive and commendable health care service for veterans

The mission statement of Hampton Veteran Affairs Medical Center is to honour the
veterans of America by providing excellent healthcare that improves the health of the veterans
and their well being.
The policies and procedures of Hampton Veteran Affairs Medical Center include
Integrity, Commitment, Advocacy, Respect and Excellence. Integrity refers to the honesty of
character and therefore acting honestly and with veracity and having high moral standards, and
also abiding by high professional principles and keeping the faith and trust with everybody that
one interacts and engages. Commitment refers to being committed to work meticulously to serve
Veterans and other recipients. To being driven by the belief in the mission of Veteran Affairs and
fulfill one’s individual responsibilities as well as organizational responsibilities. Advocacy refers
to advocating the rights of the veteran and ensuring veterans and other beneficiaries are not
deprives of the medical services in any way. Respect refers to the notion of treating everybody
with the utmost respect and dignity, the underlying principle being to show respect in order to
earn respect. Excellence refers to the notion of striving for excellence, being thoughtful and

center has been instituted to cater exclusively only to veterans, that also includes homeless

They also provide psychology services and research. Under the Rural Health Initiative, a team at

provide medical assistance to veterans living in rural areas which is truly commendable. The

care. Their social work program helps veterans with community service and psychological

as they are unable to hear clearly, aural rehabilitation, cochlear implants among other services.

services. The primary objective of recreation therapy is to improve the quality of life and
encourage independence. Recreation therapy includes dance, art, music and recreation. The
service is targeted at veterans, and the members of the families and communities. Rehabilitation
services ensures the provision of a full range of rehabilitative services. They also provide
rehabilitative care, blind rehabilitation, injury of the brain, audiology and speech language
pathology and recreation therapy (Freud, 2018). Rehabilitation Services are committed to
provide a complete care as well as promoting the advancement of treatment through technology

providing a plethora of services to veterans and their families. It offers a gamut of medical
services and treatments to the veterans of The United States of America. It is based on noble
principles and offers financial services to veterans. It offers primary care in medicine, psychiatry
and surgery. Over the past one year, the Hampton Veteran Affairs Medical Center has seen a
seven percent increase among veterans seeking medical care. A state of the Art Women’s clinic
was designed to provide medical services to women. Expansions were made at the medical
center with the inclusion of the Spinal Cord Injury unit and also a medical unit for mental care.
