This report, submitted for the MSc in International Business module BU7039, analyzes the leadership styles employed at Harrods and their impact on employee experience. The report examines the application of democratic and autocratic leadership approaches, highlighting how Harrods utilizes talent spotting, mentoring, and support networks to enhance employee engagement and motivation. It evaluates the effectiveness of these strategies in addressing human resource management challenges, such as maintaining employee satisfaction and reducing turnover. The analysis includes a discussion of the Belbin team role model and a personal learning plan with SMART objectives for leadership development, demonstrating a critical understanding of leadership theories and their practical application within a retail context. The report also critically assesses the leadership approaches, using academic theories to explain how Harrods ensures employees remain motivated, engaged, and committed to the organization. The report also includes a design and justification plan that will further build and develop learning which will supplement development as a leader and management of people.
