1. You have decided to buy parts and build your own personal computer. At the
minimum, what are the components that you would need for this device to be
considered a computer?
The components of a computer which are necessary to be incorporated so that it can be
considered as a computer are monitor, CPU, motherboard, RAM, ROM, Graphics Card,
keyboard, mouse, a power supply boards, PCI-Express cards, hard disk.
2. What are the most important features to consider before purchasing a PC?
The most important features which are needed to be considered before buying a PC are the
CPU, RAM, Hard drive, Graphics card, mother board, sound system.
3. Explain the notions of WAN, LAN, MAN and PAN.
WAN: It is defined as the type of telecommunication network which is spread over a large-scale
geographical area. Wide Area Network can be both wired and wireless depending upon the
networking requirements of the users.
LAN: It is defined as the type of telecommunication network which are used in smaller areas.
The connectivity of the Local Area Network is based upon the ethernet1. Twister pair cables are
used in the wired technology at the same time it can be used as wireless technology also.

are being used in our daily life such as the Bluetooth devices.
4. What are the technical advantages of optical fiber’s over other communications
media?
The technical advantages of the optical fiber’s over the other categories of communication
media are the greater bandwidth, higher data transmission rate, low power loss.
5. Wi-Fi is all around us. Is there any downside to its pervasiveness?
There are a couple of limitations associated with the Wi-Fi such as the security in the
encrypted methods of data communication, cost of the items associated with the technology.
Reliability is often compromised in Wi-Fi enabled systems which is not considered in the wired
technologies.
