Tutorial 04- HC3152
Q1. Without the development of the World Wide Web by Tim Berners-Lee, the internet is
likely to have become a commercial medium. Discuss.
The development of World Wide Web (www) has transformed the operation of the organisations
as well as lifestyle of people. If WWW had not been developed by Tim-Berners Lee then the
scenario would have been different as internet would have become a commercial medium
because www or web provides the users the way gaining information or data using internet as a
medium. The protocol of HTTP is used by web for transmitting data. The web services that uses
HTTP in order to permit the applicants to communicate or exchange data therefore, it can be
stated that without www the web services would have no meaning as internet would have
emerged as commercial or marketable medium and would have failed to normal or common
people in their daily lives (Chaffey, 2015). Web services are a part of the internet that aids to
provide information over the internet thus without www internet is not complete.
Q2. In the future, the distinction between intranets, extranets, and the intranet for
marketing purposes is likely to disappear. Discuss.
In the present scenario, intranets along with extranets serve as a medium of communication by
the organisations. However, slowly the use of intranet as well as intranets for the purpose of
business communication is about to decrease in future because the world of technology is
continuously developing. Intranet refers to the network that is privately owned by an
organisation while extranet denotes the network that is privately owned that permits the vendors,
suppliers, and partners to gain access to information or data from the part of an enterprise’s
intranet (Brzozowska A., Bubel D., 2015). However, in the present scenario, the field of cloud
computing is continuously developing and it indicates that the use of intranets and extranets are
about to become outdated in future. Almost every organisation will use cloud computing in
future as a means of communication and storing information in future. Thus, it would not be
wrong to state that cloud computing will overtake the use of intranet along with extranet with
respect to the organisations.

Q1. Why is environmental scanning necessary?
Environmental scanning can be referred to the procedure of collecting data or information with
respect to the events including the relationship the events have with the external as well as
internal environment of the organisation. The use of environmental scanning aids the
management of an organisation to focus on the direction of movement of the organisation in
future. In the present scenario, environmental scanning has become important because the
environment of the organisation is facing rapid changes that are affecting the operation of the
organisations (Reimer et al., 2019). The analysis of the environment of a business aids to
recognise the weaknesses, strengths, threats, and opportunities that in turn aid the organisations
to devise apt plans or strategies for the enhancement of performance of the organisations in the
market. The organisations are aided to devise strategies of long-term business through
environmental scanning thus aiding the organisations to make proper decisions and emerge
successful in its endeavours.
Q2. Give an example of how each of the macro-environment factors may directly drive the
content and services provided by a website.
The macro-environmental factors include political, economic, social, technological,
environmental, and legal factors or forces that affect the operation of the organisations. The
factors stated above directly affect the operation of the organisations thereby affecting the
services that the organisation provides to the customers. Thus, as the operation of the
organisations is affected by the macro-environmental factors thus the website of that particular
organisation is affected with respect to the content that is available on it and services that are
available on the website of the business (e-Business Articles, 2018). Therefore, it would not be
wrong to state that the macro-environmental factors or forces affect not only the administration
of an organisation but also the services available on its website and contents in it. The macro-
environmental factors play a crucial role in determining the strategy devised by an organisation
with respect to its operation.
