INTRODUCTION
Academic skills are referred to the core skills i.e. writing, presentation and referencing
skills that encourages students to become highly potential learners. These skills support learners
to go for higher education. In this report will discuss significance of skills to be effective higher
education (HE) learners.
TASK
Identify the skills that require to be HE learners
There are various skills i.e. communication skills, patience, creativity, presentation,
enthusiasm, confidence, time management, stress management, study skill, money management,
money management, Well-developed self-care skills which requires to become proficient learner.
For example, communication is one of the essential skill for the learners because when they
posses' this skill then they enable to communicate with other people in effective manner and can
maintain their well-being (Kafanabo, 2018). A effective communication enables individuals to
learn more from the different learning process by empowering them to ask authentic question
and resolves queries. Such verbal communication raising the procedure of socialization by
assisting new friendships which turn in the learning process. Communication skills comprises
two type communication i.e. verbal and written communication. Both verbal and written
communication are essential for the learner because when they have these skills then can easily
get higher education. Written communication allows learners to communicate with people
through message with clarity rather than oral communication (Egan and et.al., 2017). When
learners posses good written skill then they can represent answering over proposed questions in
the examination hall. On the other hand, oral communication allows learners to represent their
thoughts and knowledge to the other people or teachers. Enthusiasm is another important skill for
the UK's HE learner because when they have high level of enthusiasm then they can attract
teachers toward them to have better teaching in the class. In fact when a student is already
enthusiastic then teacher also try to give better learning process so that they can learn better. So it
is considered one of the essential skill for HE learner. Time-management is another skill that
needs to have in HE learners. With this time-management, learners can prepare a weekly
schedule in which includes time in class, activities, meals, work, study and time with friends.
Certain hours for studying and preparation except academic class must organize by learners then

they can give their best in class. Stress management is another skill that also plays vital role in
HE learners life such as during examination period students become highly stressed because they
have to take class in collage and have to learn for exam in that state most of the students become
stressful, it is important for the HE learners to manage their stress level in collage while
engaging with different activities. Respecting the rules and policies is one of the essential skills
that creates image of learners in front of senior authorities, teachers and friends. Every
community has different rules and regulation as same collage campus also posses several rules
and policies that have to follow by all weather students or teachers that keeps environment good.
Higher Education learners should have creativity skills because it keeps them highly proactive in
the class and encourages them to do things differently which differentiate them from others.
Well-developed self-care skills is another skill that must have in learners because when they take
care of their health needs like healthy diet, bedtime, athletic classroom performance, copy
strategies for the stress etc. that keeps their mood good in class and improve their learning
capabilities (Elçiçek and Karal, 2020).
From the above discussion about skills for HE learners can be understood that learners
must have all skills like communication, time-management, stress-management, confidence,
study skills, creativity etc. because that makes them responsible for their study and allows them
to take higher education. With these skills, learners gets new and knowledge-based perspective
on the world across individuals.
Reflection
I have various skills that allows me to become HE learners for example, I have good
communication skills through which I can easily communicate with other students and teachers
about my quarries and can resolve doubts. I have good command over English language that is
highly essential to take admission in UK's higher education collage. As I know there people
speaks British language so, it is essential for me to have good command on English language
then I can communicate with them in effective manner and convey my thoughts to them. I have
good written communication skill that also supports me to share my thoughts to teacher and
students through written content. With this skill, I can get good scores in examinations. Overall, I
can say that my communication skills will help me to apply for Higher education in UK. In
addition, I already posses good self-care management skills through which I can can take care
myself during my academic sessions. I have good study skills that allows me to do my study

effectively in Higher education, for example I do not need to dependent on others for notes
purpose. I can independently make notes on the basis of class notes and joins library to enhance
my knowledge over the class lecture. So, this skill keeps me further from other students and
creates good image in front of senior authorities. I have good confidence that reflects in my
communication which can impress individuals while communicating with me. So, I think that I
posses all skills which can make me good HE learners (Aithal and Kumar, 2016).
There are some skills like time-management, stress management from which I am lacking
behind. I know these skills can impact my overall performance in the higher education. So, I
have decided that I will improve my weak areas through personal development plan and tools.
With the support of personal development plan, I will enlist my weak areas and practices
different strategies like reading good books & journals in which authors have given suggestions
to manage time, takes guidance from senior authorities. Thus, I will improve my time-
management skill. To develop stress management skill I will take learn and practice some
relaxation techniques meditation, yoga and exercise regularly that will bring calmness and
manage my stress level during examination. Thus, I will improve my HE skills.
CONCLUSION
In this report has been concluded importance of HE learners skills for the students. In
last, I have given self-assessment over HE skills.
