INTRDUCTION
Skills are referred to the expertise or talent that requires in order to gain higher education,
job or task. A effective academic skills allows individuals to do study in higher education while
life skills supports them through everyday tasks. work or hobby. In this report will discuss about
significance skills that are required to become good HE learners.
TASK
Definition of higher education skills and their significance to HE learners that link to
performance and success factors
Academic skills are properly made up of core skills i.e. academic writing, referencing and
presentation skills which supports to learn more complex skills i.e. critical thinking and
reflective practice. To become effective higher education learners requires certain specific skills
i.e. ability to communicate with empathy, decision-making, problem-solving, teamwork and
relationship building skills, study skills etc. that enhance individual’s confidence, self-esteem
and competences (El Soufi and See, 2019). These skills also support to adapt hostile environment
and improves wellbeing of individuals. There is an example to understand role of skills such as
when academic students have good study skills then they can easily handle study pressure in
Higher Education and improve their ability to learn and retail knowledge. A effective study skills
may feel individuals that their work and efforts are more worthwhile (Henderson and et.al.,
2019). As same concept with communication skills, when individuals have ability to
communicate with empathy then they can easily make friends and resolves their doubts which
they often come while studying. Most of the time it happens when academic students or
individuals do not have good communication skills then they often face issues in higher
education because they unable to communicate with their batchmates and teachers effectively
which reduces their wellbeing and makes them weaker in higher education. According to author,
communication is process of exchanging or transferring information from one person to other.
With this skills individual can become good speaker, negotiator, manager etc. because it is one of
the major skills that is highly required to have in all professionals. Problem-solving and decision-
making skills are another essential skills that needs to have in HE learners for example when

academic student has effective decision-making skills then they can take own decision like
where to apply for higher education or in which course they wat to make their career in future.
When a person or student has good decision-making skills that makes them more career-
orientated. Problem-solving skills supports HE learners to figure out solutions over the proposed
problems (Jones, Olds and Lisciandro, 2016). For example, when individuals switch from
school to collage that time there are many challenges or complex situations takes place wherein
individuals unable to solve issues on time. So, it is essential for the HR learners to have good
problem-solving skills then they can study more effectively. Effective team-working skills is
another crucial skill that helps individuals to make good friends, improves communication skills
and supports in creating productive environment around themselves. In Higher Education period,
students often get project in a team, that situation often become panic for them because there are
various students who never work in groupism and like to do study or project at individual level.
In that state, individuals unable to lead team and communicate with them in proper manner. So,
it is crucial for the HR learners to posses’ this skill because this skill will lead them further in
future and make them god leader at collage level. Information technology (IT) skills is another
HE learner skill that needs to have in individuals because in higher education period, they often
have to make power point presentations, posters etc. in seminars and competitions.
From the above analysis can be analyzed that HE learners needs to have several specific
skills that supports them to become good HR learners and prepares them for several designed
posts in future. In addition, when these skills posses’ by individuals that leads productivity in
their performance and success as well.
Reflection
I have many skills that can assist me to take admission in UK’s higher education and
become good HE learners (Matthews, Garratt and Macdonald, 2018). For example, I have good
communication skills that will support me in communicating with mass of people who are new
to me. I will enable to give answering of proposed questions which will be asked by teachers in
classroom. With this skill, I will enable to make good friends and can resolve my doubts to ask
my friends and teachers. Thus, I will improve retaining and comprehensive skills. In addition, I
have many skills like good presentation skill, decision-making skills, IT skills and problem-
solving skills which are important to become effective HR learners. With these skills, I will

enable to build good positioning in my class and collage as well which improves my academic
scores and make me successful. I have good study skills as well that helps me to reduce my
anxiety level during test and exams because I will study all chapters priorly then I do not have to
study more in exams session that will ultimately reduce study pressure on me and I can give
exams more effectively. Even I use skill audit in order to examine my weak and strong skills
which can improve and impact on learning performance (Scholz, Tse and Lithgow, 2017). With
the support of performance ranking scale, I observed that there are some skills which are quite
good in me and that will keep me career-oriented in future. But still there are some skills that are
quite weak which can impact on my entire performance in the higher education or cannot
become good HE learners such as team working skills and academic writing skills. These skills
are crucial for me to be effective HR learners. So, I have decided to develop these weak areas.
To improve my weak area, I will use personal development plan (PDP) that will help me to
improve my weak areas in precise manner like taking guidance from seniors and authorities,
reads good journals and books etc. Thus, I will become effective HE learners and can easily
apply for the UK’s higher education (Simonova and Poulova, 2017).
CONCLUSION
It has been summarized importance skills that needed to be effective HE learners. It has
reflected own skills, assessed them against HR learner one’.
