promoting and maximising the rights of users of health and social care
services.
Ans : Communication can be defined as the act of transferring the message of the sender to the
receiver through a medium. Communication is said to effective only when the receiver
interprets the message in the same manner as conveyed by the sender.
There are various ways of communication between the care takers and the service users,
the most important and convenient is the Face to face communication which is
considered as both the individuals are present (Ahmed, Bestall & Clark, 2011). It can be
seen in the community health care centre, where the services users communicate their
problems with the health care workers.
Another form of communication that is seen in health care industry is the Group
Interaction, Formal communication. It is important for a communication to be positive
as two individuals (i.e. between nurse and the patient) work together for the well being
of the health service users. Hence their need to be Mutual trust between them and it can
be through proper communication only.
As in the case of Mr. Taz the following strategies can be adopted by the health care
individuals:

1. It is important that the health care worker interacts regularly with Mr. Taz (Like saying
hello, how is their condition, how are they feeling) as it gives him a feeling of being
treated with respect & dignity.
2. Then it is important that the language of communication is kept simple and no –
miscommunication happens between the health care workers & the service user.
Empathy is the key for the health care professional (Adams, Hean & Clark, 2009).
3. If the service user like Mr. Taz is suffering from problems like hearing impairment the
health care worker can use appropriate means like a picture, signs to communicate with
the service user.
4. If the service user shows behaviour like anger or aggression then the health care
workers needs to understand this issue & try to offer help when the service user are
ready to accept it.
5. Active listening to the service user is another important aspect of communication as it
gives the impression to the service user that their problem is being addressed to.
6. The health care Professional need to ensure that service quality check are performed on
regular intervals & feedback is taken from the service users if required. All the
complaints if required are addressed.

complains about lack of good medical services, ineffective listening to what the patient

participation and social exclusion for Mr Taz.
Ans: In the above case study the factors that have led to the Loss of Independence, Non-
Participation, and Social exclusion of Mr.Taz are
1. Loss of Independence: the word loss of independence refers to the complete surrender of
oneself to others
In case of Mr. Taz he has met with an accident & has become physically disabled, also
suffers from hearing impairment .Thus these factors has made Mr. Taz Physically
dependent on his family and the health care workers.
2. Non-Participation: The term Non-Participation refers to the condition of a patient where
they are not willing to participate or believes in getting involved in a activity.

Non-participation by the patient is considered as a negative condition certain factors like
insecurity related to the treatment that is being offered, information lacking(i.e. not
providing appropriate information about the treatment to the patient).not listening to the

society and is being looked upon by the people because of his physical disability (Barr,
Hammick & Reeves, 2012). This has led to a decrease in his self-worth, isolation from
other people.
There term social exclusion talks about the negative impact like avoidance, rejection,
distancing of an individual from the society and it can have an adverse effect on the
mental health of the individual. As in the case of Mr. Taz due to social exclusion he has
started feeling isolated and also does not prefer to talk to his family members as well.
Q4. Various factors that affected the achievement of promoting and
maximising the rights for Mr Taz.

Ans: The factors that may affect the achievement of promoting and maximizing right of Mr.
Taz are:
1. Lack of experienced staff/Health care workers can lead to mishandling of the health
service users as they will lack the general understanding of the condition of the health
service users, also less staff means more work and thus leading to lack of
communication.
E.g.: In UK people suffering from cancer prefer to consult doctors outside their country
due to lack of experienced hospital staff.
2. Non-adherence to the legislative laws and Quality standards (like the Equality Act
2010, Mental Act 2005) and policies can lead to discrimination in the attitude of the
health care workers that will affect the rights of the service users (Walshe & Rundall,
2013).
3. Lack of knowledge on the part of the health care professionals about the condition of
the service users can often have serious impact on the health of the service users.
4. Non-communication, Lack of coordination between the doctors, health care workers
and the service users can also affect the proper working of the health care professionals
and can have serious impact on the health of the service users.
5. Improper grievance readdressed system: In case the service user has a problem and
complain related to a health care worker or other patient or related to the quality of the

Q5: Methods adopted to cook Mr. Harry meal safely and different
responsibilities to ensure the safety of all
Ans: The health care worker must make Mr.Harry aware about the following points:
1. Identification of the health problem: The health Care worker will help Mr.Harry to
understand the symptoms of his problem. So that Mr. Harry is aware of his problem once
it begins
2. Appropriate medicines: The health care worker will help Mr. Harry to understand the
benefits of proper medication (I.e. as and when to take medicine, ensure that it’s been

Q6. Helping Mr Philip to identify the extent to which individuals are at risk
of harm in health and social care
Ans: According to the case study Philip of age 62 has been described as been affected by
dementia and is living with his two sons. Being victim and affected by the social abuse

and violence at the domestic front he was admitted to residential care. Once he was bitten
by his son when Philip used his towel for drying himself. That bite affected him lot, he
also got lot of stitches on that wound. At the Age of 62 also he has to earn so that he
should not have to rely on his sons for basic needs. His desired was to remain alone as if
he returned to his son they may torture him again or similar case of violence can be seen.
This violence also made him belief that his son may kill him. Due to such social abuse he
also tried to commit suicide before his son could kill him. Along with this there are many
other cases where he was beaten by his sons and tortured which affected the risk in living
with his sons. For only such simple use of the towel for drying himself he was beaten by
his sons. Due to such condition he got shock and in state of dilemma that his own son's
going to kill him. He tried to commit suicide before his son could kill him as he was to
dependent on them. In terms of legal policies and rules it is completely illegal things
which are done by Mr. Philip sons, also his son knew that he has been suffering from the
social and healthcare. They are really treating him so badly at such age. All this cases
have created a risk in the minds of Mr. Philip that his mentality has been psychologically
affected and their to high risk that he may get future abused or even killed by his son.
There can be possible many result to this situation, one of such result is Mr. Philip should
kill himself, end their chapter and let his both son's to live in peaceful.
Q7. As the hospital manager, select and analyse 2 health and social care

Ans: Being serving as hospital manager there are certain points that I would consider from the
service users point of view they are mentioned below:
1. The servicer users want to be respected & feel involved &expect that the health care
workers keep them informed at every stage of their treatment.
2. The services user wants that the care and treatment provided to them should meet their
needs.

For Example: In case of Mr. Taz he expect the heath care workers to provided him help
to overcome his hearing impairment capability by helping him learn the sign language, so
that it becomes easy for him to communicate with others (Leichsenring, 2014).
3. The services user expects the health care providers to routinely check upon the quality
of services and take appropriate action if required.
Various effectiveness measures taken in the form of policies, managerial approach and
procedures with respect to the health and social care for the promotion of risk management are
