A description of the purpose and process of conducting research in enabling evidence-based
practice in health and social care
Research is the process of structured organized way of finding different concepts and
information for the specific topic. Studying any particular topic with gathering information
and data from primary or secondary sources is the essential part of researching process
(Parahoo., 2014). Evidence based practice is defined as the health and social care practice
based on the evidences and influenced by the evidences provided by the primary trials and
researches in the field. Evidence based practice is utmost requirement in the contemporary
nursing and health and social care. Evidence based practice is the source to achieve effective
practice and aims at achieving best quality patient outcomes (Straus et al., 2018). In
contemporary world every health and social care user aims at attainment of services and
care that is individualistic and patient oriented. In order to promote patient oriented care
the health and social care provider needs to explore new dimensions and evidences related
to advance technology, medicine and care provisions that may help in individualizing the
care plan for the patient and promote best quality care to the individual. The major aim of
evidence based practice is to ensure that the clinical practice is based on sound and strong
evidences from recent and current clinical research and the result is directed to best patient
outcomes (LoBiondo-Wood and Haber., 2017).

An explanation of the skills and qualities needed to conduct a literature review in health and
social care.
Literature review is the process of collecting secondary data on a specific topic to
demonstrate the in depth of knowledge on the topic and an opportunity to produce new
interpretations on the issue (Hart., 2018). There are a set of skills required to conduct a
literature review in health and social care. These skills include the ability of searching,
sorting, comparing, analysing and evaluating scholarly writings. The first and foremost
important ability of the researcher to conduct a literature review is to search at authentic
and reliable sources for the most valid data (Dang and Dearholt., 2017). Use of databases
like PubMed, Medline, and Cinahl etc. is done by the researchers in contemporary health
care to select and search most relevant literature on the topic (Fink., 2019). The second
most crucial skill required is the ability to sort and select the high quality evidences to
include in the research literature review. A good review also should include critical valuation
of the evidences provided by the researches and the in depth knowledge of the methods,
results and conclusion of the research. Synthesizing skills are the next important set of skills
for good reviewer. Reviewing the journals and articles and synthesizing the information by
writing a review is required to frame a good quality literature review. Other than this the
critical thinking and evaluation ability of the researcher is important in framing a good high
quality review as this ability allows the researcher to sort good evidences and critically
evaluate them together to interpret new domains in the research (Hart., 2018).
