Analyzing the Determinants of Health in Middle-Aged Men's Suicide

This presentation examines the social determinants of health in relation to suicide among middle-aged men. Introduction
The social determinants of the health are accountable for health and
well-being inequalities. For decreasing health inequalities and
enhancing the health status of individuals, so it is significant to
understand to analyse main factors, which are impacting health and
well-being of individuals that is the determinant of health (Snowdon et
al., 2017). In the following, an effort has been made to discuss the
health determinants with respect to suicide among middle-aged
individuals.

Determinants of health with respect to the
suicide of middle age individuals
The social determinants of health with respect to suicide among middle
age-people are described below-
• Age, sex, and hereditary factors-
It have been stated that life course draws on sex, age, and hereditary
factors is a better indicator of inequalities in the health of middle-aged
people.
As many people suffer from coronary heart disease and urinary
incontinence, which is found in middle age people and this is the main
reason for the suicide committed by these people (Masters, Tilstra and
Simon, 2017).

Individual lifestyle factors-
These factors are strongly connected with
the individual choice over self-indulgence.
It is seen that middle age people adhere to
smoking and drinking that exposed to
cirrhosis and heart diseases.
They are also exposed to HIV as well as
other sexual diseases, which plays an
important role in losing their self-control and
induced to suicide (Hempstead and Phillips,
2015).

• Social and community impacts-
It has been a major influence on the health and well-being of the
middle-age people.
They are suffering from various problems i.e. low income, family
breakdown, unemployment, poor housing, ill health, and
discrimination.
It moves them towards depression and develops the mind-set towards
suicide.

• Living conditions-
It is stated that around 23% are middle-aged people living with their
kids in lone parent family, which were the highest tendency of people
who tend to smoke.
In this condition, it is hard to manage stress and pressure of bringing
up kids on your own, which can lead to health-damaging behaviours
and then they committed suicide (Phillips and Hempstead, 2017).

• General and Environmental conditions-
It is stated that socio-economic conditions are principally significant
to health.
The issue of sustainability is a major concern as the unsustainable
utilization of natural assets is a fundamental threat to the health of
middle-aged people.
These people are failed to attain healthy food and moves towards
suicidal tendencies.

• Depression and anxiety are closely associated with smoking as it can
lead to depression.
• The psycho-social conditions of middle age people can cause risk-
taking behaviour and stress.
• It is stated that in New Zealand 42% of smokers are dealing with
mental stress, low level of education, and employment.
• These people are more prone to poor quality of life and suicidal
tendencies (Kim et al., 2016).

Conclusion
In conclusion, it has been stated that in countries such as the United
Kingdom, suicidal tendencies in males of the middle is much higher,
which stays in socio-economic conditions. Mental disorder, education,
living condition, social conditions, depression is a significant cause of
suicide committed by people.
