1. Give your own definition of wellness with references from various sources.
The term wellness can be defined as the active process of developing awareness of along with
making choice towards a healthy as well as fulfilling life. According to WHO, wellness can be
defined as a state of complete mental, physical as well as social wellbeing and is more than free
from illness and hence can be defined as a dynamic process of change and growth. This is
consistent with the biopsychosocial wellness paradigm, which addresses wellness and illness
physiological, psychological and social causes, and the relationships between these causes. It
varies from the conventional medical paradigm that describes health as the absence of disease or
sickness, and stresses the role of clinical diagnosis and intervention. The definition of the WHO
specifically connects health with well-being, conceptualizing health as a human right that needs
physical and social capital to attain and sustain it. 'Wellbeing' refers to a favourable condition as
opposed to bad, portraying wellness as a favourable expectation. As per this definition, health
has been defined by Ranjan (2017), as resource of everyday life instead of being an object of
living. In this view wellbeing is a way of living healthy, emphasizing the link between health and
social engagement.
However one of the major criticisms of this point of view of wellness is that it is highly
unrealistic since this approach has failed to consider the temporary issues associated will ill
health but also the commendable number of people living across the world who are living with
chronic illnesses and disabilities. Iconomescu et al. (2013) introduced a new concept of wellness
as 'the capacity to adjust and control yourself,' which incorporates people's capacity to adjust as a
key to wellness to their situation. This also considers the contextual aspect of wellness; based on
the situation and their preferences, what safety and well-being entails can vary from one person
to the next. Some see that as a weakness to wider health concepts on the grounds that well-being

is neither objective nor measurable. Another drawback of this strategy is that it is strongly
individualistic and takes no account of wider health determinants. Health responsibility is seen as
being individual rather than communal, with no room for upholding it as a human right.
2. Elaborate the SIX dimensions of wellness with applications of each dimension in your
daily life.
The six dimensions of wellness has been developed by Dr Hettler that identifies the
occupational, physical, emotional, spiritual, intellectual and social wellness to be the sex key
components of wellness. While developing the model, the fact that no right or wrong way of
staying well or no ideal balance between all the demotions of wellness is there (Strout et al.,
2018). The importance of various dimensions can vary considerably from person to person; some
individuals may derive their greatest feeling of satisfaction or purpose from their work, while
others place greater emphasis on their physical health, spirituality, or family relationships.
Physical wellness
The physical aspect recognizes that routine physical exercise is necessary. Physical development
promotes knowledge about diet and nutrition while at the same time discouraging tobacco use,
drugs and excessive alcohol use. Optimum health is achieved by mixing healthy fitness and
dietary habits. When one walks on the path of health, he/she must continue to spend time
developing muscle strength, resilience and stamina while still taking safety measures so that
he/she can navigate the journey safely through personal self-care and good use of a treatment
program (Daugherty et al., 2017). The physical aspect of health includes personal responsibility
as well as treatment for minor illnesses along with awareness of the need for professional
medical services. One should be able to track his/her own vital signs by following the wellness

path, and recognize the alert signs in your body. He/she should understand the relationship
between good diets and how the body works, and enjoy it (Ramsey & Aagard, 2018). Very
frequently, the physical rewards of looking good and feeling great contribute to the
psychological gains of increased self-esteem, self-control, motivation and purpose. When it
comes to implement physical wellness in my daily life, I ensure that every day I exercise for at
least 20 minutes. When I was a teen, over consumption of junk food had resulted in health
conditions like high blood pressure and obesity. Hence in order maintain physical wellness, I
make sure to eat healthy by avoiding soft drinks, fries foods, excessive amount of sweets and
processed meats. Additionally, I consume fresh green vegetables and 3 servings of fruits on a
regular basis. Moreover, I abstain from alcohol or tobacco consumption and ensure to get at least
7 to 8 hours of sleep every night.
Emotional wellness
The emotional aspect acknowledges knowledge of one's emotions and their recognition.
Emotional wellness is the degree to which one's life feel optimistic and excited. It requires the
capacity to control one's emotions and associated activities like the rational assessment of one's
limits, the growth of flexibility, and the ability to cope with stress effectively. The person who
maintains emotional wellness can maintain positive relationships with others. Being mindful of,
and embracing, a wide range of emotions between oneself and others is important to well being.
He/she is able to share emotions honestly on the wellness path along with controlling emotions
efficiently (Strout et al., 2016). An emotionally stable individual is able to arrive at personal
preferences and judgments based on emotions, opinions, beliefs, and actions synthesis. He/she
will live and operate individually, while recognizing the value of finding and appreciating other
people's assistance and help. He/she should be able to establish interdependent relationships with

others built on a foundation of mutual interest, trust and reverence, taking on challenges, chances
and understanding tension as potentially healthy. Managing one's life in emotionally satisfying
ways, and taking responsibility for his/her acts, makes one see life as a thrilling, optimistic
adventure. In order to ensure emotional wellness, I try to maintain a positive attitude in any kind
of adverse situation. I have discovered that painting acts as my personal stress reliever and often
paints while feeling to be in stress.
Intellectual wellness
The intellectual aspect recognizes the imaginative, creative behaviour which stimulates one's
mental activities. A well-being person extends their awareness and expertise while finding the
ability to share their talents with others. Through academic and cultural experiences in the
classroom and elsewhere, together with the available human capital and social opportunities in
the educational community and in the wider world, a well-being individual appreciates
intellectual development and relaxation (Colino et al., 2020). He/she discuss topics relating to
problem solving, innovation, and learning by taking a wellness path. In order to develop and
maintain intellectual wellness, individuals spends more time pursuing personal interests along
with reading magazines, newspapers and books in order to keep themselves up to date with
current issues and ideas. In order to develop intellectual wellness, an individual needs to develop
their intellectual curiosity that encourages then to expand and challenge existing knowledge.
When it comes to me, in order to develop my intellectual wellness of keep abreast of current
affairs by reading current affair books and newspaper. When it comes to my academic life, I
always ensure to learn new things by spending a good amount of time in library.
Spiritual wellness

The spiritual dimension acknowledges our human life exploration of value and intention. This
requires the creation of a deep understanding of the complexity and expanse of life and natural
forces occurring in the universe. An Individual’s journey should be marked by a healthy balance
between personal and emotional inner feelings and the rough and rocky stretches of his or her
path. He/she may encounter many sensations of uncertainty, frustration, anxiety, dissatisfaction
and dislocation as well as feelings of enjoyment, excitement, satisfaction and exploration as
he/she walks the road (Zechner et al. 2019). These are all essential observations and components
of one's quest, which will be reflected in the belief structure that he/she must adopt to make
his/her life meaningful. An individual realize that as his/her actions are more aligned with his/her
convictions and ideals, he/she is spiritually fulfilled, resulting in a "world view." I personally
believe that ensuring spiritual wellness is highly crucial in order to develop and maintain the
other dimensions of wellness. In order to maintain my spiritual wellness, I spend at least ½ to 1
hour of my time in a day in a quiet place contemplating spiritual thoughts like meaning of life.
Along with this, roaming for half an hour in garden spending time and appreciating the nature
also provides me with spiritual satisfaction.
Social wellness
The social dimension encourages belonging to one's culture and environment. This stresses the
interdependence of nature and others. People become more conscious of their role in society as
well as the impact they have on different worlds when they follow the wellness path. In
promoting healthy living and fostering improved contact with those around an individual, he/she
plays an important role in changing the World. People practicing social wellness consciously
explore ways along the path to maintain nature's beauty and harmony when they uncover the
ability to make willing decisions to improve personal relationships and valuable connections, and

create a healthier living environment and society (Rehman et al., 2020). From childhood, I was
an introvert person. However this factor has never prevented me from getting involved in any
program of the societies. I communicate with my peers as well as my neighbours on a daily
basis. I have also developed the potentiality to balance my social life with my academic
responsibility.
Occupational wellness
The occupational dimension acknowledges personal fulfilment and prosperity by job in one's
life. The premise at the heart of workplace health is that career growth is related to one's
approach to the job. An individual will apply his/her special abilities, expertise, and talents to
work that is both socially important and satisfying while following a road to his/her workplace
health. They will express their beliefs by participating in things that would be gratifying to them.
Profession preference, work fulfilment, career goals, and personal success are all essential
components of the landscape of one's path who works on developing and maintaining workplace
wellness (Katpar et al., 2016). As per my opinion, occupation wellness possesses direct
connection with mental and spiritual wellness. Lack of work life balance or high stress resulting
from occupation imposes negative impact on all the 5 remaining wellness dimensions. In order to
ensure my occupational wellness, I take my work seriously and ensure on time submission of my
work. Additionally, I believe in keeping work life balance and hence avoid working over shift
even if it comes with lucrative incentive schemes.
3. Suggest ways on health and physical education programmes to promote the six
dimensions of wellness.

Both online as well as offline campaigns can be used for promoting the 6 dimension of wellness
through physical education and health programs. Considering the fact that popular social media
platforms possess the potential to enhance awareness of wellness dimensions to a huge number
of individuals within a short time period, social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram and
Twitter can be used for promoting wellness programs. For instate in 2016, WHO considered
obesity as a global epidemic and used the social media to educate people about the negative
impact of obesity (Fox-Dichter et al. 2018). A good number of physicians, dieticians as well as
gym instructors were involved into the online campaign. Such online campaigns can be
implemented in order to enhance physical and emotional wellness. Psychologists, physicians,
dieticians and gym instructors together can held such online campaigns where importance of
health wellness will be discussed in live shows. Not only this, queries of the audience will be
resolved along with provision of advise of how to develop physical and emotional wellness.
When it comes to offline wellness programs, both government and non governmental
organizations can organize free wellness campaigns in schools and collages. A team of
Psychologist , physicians, dieticians and gym instructors will visit the school and conduct a free
health screening and counselling the students. Along with this, students will be made aware of
the importance of physical exercises on daily basis along with proper diet. A daily exercise
routine and diet plan will be shared with the students that will enable them to reduce or prevent
obesity leading to other health issues. Students who are willing to give up their addiction will be
provided with counselling and medication along with motivating speech which turn will help
them stay away from addiction.
The third strategy to promote wellness is conducting wellness program at workplaces. The
management of an organization can organization can organize this health program in order to

ensure physical as well as psychological wellness of their employees. This can be done by
inviting a group of psychologists and encouraging the employees to take part in free therapy
programs. This program will help the employees to reduce their stress level and ensure physical
wellness even during work pressure.
The fourth wellness program that can be implanted in order to enhance intellectual wellness is to
organize quiz and debate programs. These programs can be organized by local government as
well as NGOs. These programs will encourage school students to gather knowledge about
current affairs and intellectual skills
4. Design your own wellness model with TWO additional wellness dimensions to the
original model, supported with your justifications.
The two more dimensions of wellness that I would like to incorporate includes environmental
and financial dimension. Environmental wellness has to do with the surroundings that one
inhabit (Fox-Dichter et al., 2018). This wellness aspect ties an individual’s general welfare to
his/her environment's wellness. This way one’s feelings are profoundly affected by both the
social and natural surroundings. When one is surrounded by noise and disorganization, or feels
uncomfortable in his/her environment, it can be hard to feel healthy. Any of the factors
impacting environmental health are deforestation, crime, garbage accumulation and water
conservation. Considering the fact that modernization takes a toll on the environment, lack of
fresh air, high rate of air ,water and social population are some major factors that affects our
environmental wellness. In order to ensure environmental wellness, I prefer to keep my
environmental clean by reusing and recycling plastic products. Along with this in order to ensure

healthy personal environment, I surround myself with positive individuals and things that
inspires me.
Financial wellness is a feeling of comfort with the financial situation. Finance is a growing
stressor for people, and being able to alleviate anxiety about this part of your life will boost our
overall health (Katpar et al., 2016). Financial health plan choices including making a family
schedule, starting a savings account and contributing a small sum to it every month, investing
part of an individual's money to an emergency account, eliminating or minimizing excessive
spending, avoiding credit card debt, giving to a reputable cause, shopping in thrift shops, using
the library for free books and DVDs, I personally track my spending on a monthly basis along
with setting a goal based on the track.
