TOPIC: To know the importance of eating habits and their impact on health
and well-being
INTRODUCTION
Health refers as mental, physical and social well-being. Having a body and health of
absence of disease as well as to recover bounce back from illness is well-being and wellness (De
Witte, Pienaar and De Cuyper, 2016). This study is going to show importance of being healthy as
well as consequences of not being healthy. It will also show some sociocultural and other
personal behaviour factors that influence health of an individual and specially eating habits.
Further, it will show some ways and interventions of solving that problems and being healthy.
BACKGROUND
Ways in which health and illness are conceptualized in individual and group behaviours
As per the WHO 1948, health can be defined as a state of complete physical, mental and
social well-being or the absence of disease. The state if being in a good health and free of disease
is called wellness (Kardefelt‐Winther and et.al., 2017). Well-being is the experience of happiness
as well as prosperity. Illness behaviour can be defined as any action of an individual who does
not feel well for the purpose of their state of health. This behaviour can be divided into 2
categories or ways in which illness and well-being defined in individual behaviour:
Self-care behaviour: It includes those actions which are being taken to improve a health
condition by do not taking any medical attention or medication. It includes exercise, changing
eating habits etc. Identify symptoms at early stage and work for removing them can improve
self-care habit (Illness Behaviour, 2013.).
Health care utilization behaviour: It includes those actions which involve direct use of
healthcare services. Or it is the description of the use of services which is used for the main
purpose of health and well-being.

Different perspectives of health and illness along with impacts of social and cultural ideas on
individual's behaviours
In the context of health and well-being it can be said that it plays in important role. There
are several factors which can improve and decrease health of an individual. Some eating habits
and other habits can become the reason of decreased health such as: Smoking, using alcohol to
the great limit, eating unhealthy or junk food etc. There are several factors and perspectives that
consider and are changing needs of health and well-being such as: living and working condition,
demographic changes, food, education, social justice etc. Social and cultural ideas also have
great impacts on the health and well-being of an individual (Carel, 2018).
In addition, it can be said that health can be determined by several factors like personal
behaviour, genetic inheritance etc. Some other factors like job stress, poverty can be
conceptualized as an exposure influencing the health of individual at different levels. In the
context of personal behaviour and habit of smoking it can be said that it has several negative
impacts on the health of people. So, it need to be prevented and stopped for improving health
Influences of different models of health
As per the holistic approach and definition, well-being and health can be defined as the
achievement and maintenance of mental stability. There are several models of health that can
influence on health behaviour such as: Social model, medical model, bio psychosocial model and
ecosystem model.
Social model: This models helps an individual in examining all factors that play an important
role in health such as social, environment and cultural. For example: poor housing: This social
factor increases stress and decreased self-esteem which give negative impacts on the health. Job
stress and tension is one of the main reason why people smoke and change their eating habits
(Different Models Of Health, 2017).
Medical model: As per this model, it is stated that science have solution of all types of diseases
and it can cure them. This concept is easy to understand and there are several tools by which
people and doctor can determine that if a disease is present or not.
In the context of social influence on health it can be said that it shapes human from early
development via senescence. There are several benefits of positive social environment that are
particularly salient in chronic disease states. Social support like care attention and moral support
improve the health of an individual (Shomali and Peeples, 2018.

Controversies and implications of differing perspectives
There are some controversies of different perspectives of health. Sociology assumes that
a functioning society depends upon people who are fit and healthy. According to them a sick and
unhealthy person is one who is not responsible for normal and day to day duties, who is not
supposed to like a role and help responsible for being sick. In the context of smoking
controversies it can be said that tobacco companies are helping manufacturing the smoking
controversy that smoking is a cause of disease, but they have not materially (Morcol and et.al.,
2017).
INTERVENTIONS
Different interpretations which influences human behaviour
In the context of eating habits or smoking by which approximate of 78,000 people in the
UK die, some prevention can be suggested which can influence human behaviour and health.
Nicotine replacement therapy: As per this therapy, individuals are given a low level of
nicotine in smoking as it is not possible for an individual to quit smoking in a fully manner. So,
with this therapy, harmful effects can be decreased.
Positive Exercise: Exercise is the best therapy which keeps an individual away from
diseases and make them healthy and fit, When an individual feel fresh and positive by mentally
then it helps them out in curing their physical health.
Public health interventions: In these interventions, people are giving some positive
advices and also make them aware about the harmful impacts of unhealthy eating habits or
smoking. Public health interventions give them counselling and therapies after analysing their
behaviours (Singh, 2019).
CONCLUSION
From the above study it has been summarized that well-being and becoming healthy is
very important and there are several factors that can influence this well-being and health. The
most important factor which has become the reason of decreasing health of an individual is
smoking or poor eating habits. Further, it has shown some interventions or models by which
health of an individual can be improved such as positive exercise, medical therapies and other
public health interventions.
