1INFORMATION SYSTEM INTEGRATION
Introduction
Health Management Information System (HMIS) is an important tool for
strengthening of the health-care system. A data collection method is required for planning,
decision-making and management in the health-care organizations, which could be served by
Health Information Management System (Laudon & Laudon, 2016).
The aim of this assignment is to understand the complexities and challenges of the
Health Information Management System in a health organization.
Discussions
Health Management Information System is essential to make the heath system
stronger. It integrates all the important data in a health care, which could be helpful for
monitoring the overall performances of the healthcare (Wager, Lee & Glaser, 2017). This
system could be applicable to all types of healthcare; however, the IT professional is working
in a general healthcare, which has specific segmented department like, ENT, Gynecology,
Cardiology and various other specified departments. The role of the Information Technology
professional in this aspect is to manage, control and handle all the important data in the
healthcare system. The IT professional collect, analyze and protect all the digital medical
information that are very important to provide quality care (Istepanian, Laxminarayan &
Pattichis, 2014). The IT professional is termed as health information management
professional and they plan overall information system in the healthcare, develop the
necessary health policy; identify contemporary and future information that are needed. In
addition to that, they control and analyze the information that is necessary for legal,
administrative, ethical and professional requirements of record keeping in the health care
unit.

2INFORMATION SYSTEM INTEGRATION
A number of important data regarding the implementation of the Health Management
Information System has been gathered and collected from the interview. The interview has
also provided the problems with the existing system in the healthcare. The problems
associated with the existing system are related to record keeping in the healthcare. There was
no integrated system in the healthcare that could save and re-use the important information
and documents. Now this is become easy to apply information whenever it needs. Access to
the real-time information regarding patients and administration like, manual registration,
hand documentation are the challenges in the conventional system of the healthcare unit
(Galliers & Leidner, 2014). This has worked as a barriers in policymaking and the
understanding the requirements of the healthcare from the point of view of the hospitals,
clinics and state. All the information is integrated digitally that are important in knowing the
number of people using which services and their requirements, nature of the health problems
and types of preventive action.
There are no such major problems using the web based and computerized
HMIS. More than 95% of the data is correct and accurate and it is much safe in this system as
this is computer based or cloud based. Even health workers from all over the world has
acknowledged the effectiveness and usefulness of HMIS in data storage, service delivery and
generation of reports and work plans. The initial cost for operation and installation has
included 17, 622 US Dollars. Equivalent annual incremental cost of capital items is estimated
around 4213 US Dollars (Kongstvedt, 2012). This is time saving services. The overall time in
the healthcare service is diminished due to implementation of the Health Management
Information System. This saves time as health workers could keep records and generate
report in shorter timing, which is one of the major advantages of this system.
