Part I
According to the research that has been conducted, it has been established that the
modern-day society has been facing many challenges. One of the major issues of concern to the
society today, therefore, is the rampancy f lifestyle diseases. The changing trends in sedentary
life has exposed people to numerous lifestyle diseases such as obesity, overweight, diabetes, and
other cardiovascular ailments like heart attack. These are major problems that are attributed to
physical inactivity and poor dieting.
The problem of lifestyle diseases has been compounded by many factors including
globalization and culture. Culture has played a role because it has tolerated the practice of
physical inactivity and made it a common and acceptable practice. Laziness has become normal
because activities like the use of motor vehicles and lack of engagement in physical exercises
have become the order of the day (Ness-Jensen 177). Globalization is also to blame because it
has spread the ideas of the fast food, junk foods, and ready-to-eat food products. Globalization ha
also intensified the problem by encouraging people especially children to spend lots of time
watching the Television (TV) and playing video games instead of engaging in outdoor activities
(Wang, Zheng and Ting 201).

To solve this problem, the paper proposes the development of MY Health, a new
wearable device that will be used by the individuals to monitor their lifestyle and have a record
of the physical activity, dieting habits, and the calorie levels. Although this is a good proposal, its
implementation might not be as smooth as expected because of the numerous challenges such as
inadequate funding, lack of enough support by all the stakeholders, and regulatory issues
(Hossain and Ghulam 197). Such an application requires lots of regulations on the legal and
ethical standards to comply with. This proposal empathizes with the individual patients who have
been facing the problem of lifestyle diseases especially the poor people. It empathizes with these
people for failing to get the required education and training that they need to deal with such
diseases. Empowerment is a key component of tackling the lifestyle diseases like obesity both
amongst the children and adults.
Part II
My Monitor is a new technology that is designed to help in addressing the problem of
lifestyle diseases. My Monitor is a simple innovation that will be easy to use. Once it is
developed using high-tech Information and Communication Technology (ICT) inventions, the
device will be worn by individual users. It will gather and provide real-time information on the
individual user’s lifestyle-dieting, physical activity, and calorie levels. The target customer is,
therefore, anyone who is interested in improving his or her physical health by eradicating the
lifestyle diseases (Mitra and Gopalakrishnan 28). The overall benefit of the device is that it will
bring the lifestyle diseases to an end. It will address all the cultural problems by educating people
on various issues regarding the management of their living standards. Education is a major
milestone in the overcoming of all the barriers that have been hindering people from leading a
healthy life.
