INTRODUCTION
As per World Health Organisation (2019), it
is important for the nursing professionals to
understand their roles and responsibilities
towards the healthcare system, institutes
and patients as their broad participation is
important for development of effective and
quality healthcare. This brochure has been
developed to outline the role of nursing
professionals and their understanding about
the healthcare policy and patient advocacy
that would help to shape the future of
healthcare process (Buchan et al., 2015).
Health Policy and Advocacy should
be considered their professional
and moral obligation.
As per American Nursing Association (2019),
while working in healthcare orgnaisations,
nursing professionals can influence the
policy development and modify standards so
that effective and quality healthcare could
be provided to the patients. Further, they
could influence the allocation of resources
and through their unique and specific care,
patients and their rights are protected.
Health policy are action plans and
decisions that has been
implemented to help the healthcare
system to achieve a specific goal.
IMPORTANCE OF HEALTH
POLICY
As per Douthit et al. (2015), through the
application of healthcare policies and
procedures, healthcare professionals are
able to provide a standardization to
healthcare process.
Through the application of healthcare
policies, the nursing professionals are able
to overcome their fear and implement legal
and regulatory aspects in the care process
with safety and security liabilities.
Further, as per Miotto et al. (2017), it has
been observed that through the use of
healthcare policies, nursing professionals are
able to develop cost effective and accurate
care interventions that would help to elevate
the quality of healthcare processes. Finally,
it could also be observed that with
application of healthcare policies,
orgnaisations are able to develop
transparent and effective care.

advocacy

ADVOCACY IS THE RIGHT AND
RESPOSNIBILITY OF NURSING
PROFESSIONALS
As per World Health Organisation (2019)
patient advocacy is one of the primary and
critical responsibility of nursing professionals
as it helps the, to take decision in favor of
the patient. Therefore, through nursing
advocacy nursing professionals protect the
rights of the patients while maintaining
safety and security of the care process.
Hence, for nursing professionals, it is
important that they could take care of
patient advocacy and maintain effective
care (National Association of Neonatal
Nurses, 2019).
Further, as per American Nursing Association
(2019), application of nursing advocacy
helps them to take care of patient dignity
and encourage them by increasing their
health literacy. Therefore, if the nursing
professionals are able to maintain patient
advocacy, they would be able to comply with
effective communication, ethical code of
SUMMARY
While summarizing these sections, it could
be said that majority of the patient that are
unable to understand the healthcare process
and implication of it on their health, should
be protected with healthcare policy and
patient advocacy. This section effectively
identified the aspects which were associated
with the importance of health policies and
health advocacy related knowledge among
the nursing professionals and why it is
important for them to acquire these
knowledge. Further, this brochure also
includes details about the processes and
strategies due to which these aspects help
patients to overcome their critical health
condition and develop wellbeing.
