Health Policy and Healthcare Operations Assessment Discussion, Unit 7

This assignment comprises two discussion questions. The first question analyzes the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) and its relevance to the individual and the population, emphasizing its impact on healthcare affordability and access, and the importance of health insurance. The second question focuses on healthcare operations and quality assessment, requiring an analysis of a nursing home with a low-quality rating based on Medicare's Nursing Home Compare website. It examines the nursing home's deficiencies, including quality performance and life safety indicators, and proposes corrective actions, such as hiring skilled staff and implementing safety measures to address the identified issues. The assignment aims to provide a practical application of quality research in healthcare.

Discussion 1- Health policy
Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (2010) is the policy that affects me as well as the
population (Harrington, 2010). The acts is also known as Obamacare that was established in
order to offer health insurance exchanges which are require by all citizens of United States to
receive health insurance. This act has helped me personally to be able to afford the high quality
of services offered by nursing homes across the country. The policy also protects me through
helath insurance guarding my security and safety during my stay at a hospital. This is also
beneficial for all the families from the lower income groups of the country so that all their
medical needs and requirements can be covered with the help of health insurance (Healthcare
policy in the United States – Ballotpedia, 2019). The health insurance exchanges are required by
most of the population of the country which has bee easily available with the help of Obamacare
policy.
Discussion 2- Health and safety quality
Addison Heights Health And Rehabilitation Center, Maumee, Ohio, USA has been chosen as the
hospitality with a below avaerage rating of quality and safety. As per the recent survey
conducted by CDC, it is clear that the hospital and rehabilitation center lacks highly in their
quality of services as well safety standards (Medicare.gov Nursing Home Compare, 2019). This
makes the hospital a poor choice for the population that can compromise on their health as well
as safety during their stay at the hospital. The hospital highly lacks in the services and safety
standards which have resulted in penalties for the hospital of $10,000in the year 2017 for not
correcting citations (NNHS - National Nursing Home Survey Homepage, 2019). The nursing
home has received 18 citation under health inspections. The nursing home is deficient in fire and
safety, staffing as well as resident care (Medicare Nursing Home Profile, 2019). I would attend
all the citaions in order to resolve the issues and avoid future penalties. I will specially hire
talented staff which will automatically improve resident care quality. I would also install proper
fire and safety equipments to avoid accidents.
