AI Summary
This report addresses the healthcare challenges faced by Hospital A, a community hospital in a Philadelphia suburb, as a response to a call from a local reporter. The hospital is experiencing a shift in payer mix, with a significant increase in Medicaid patients, and a decrease in the average length of stay. This has led to an overwhelmed emergency department and an increase in patient transfers to other hospitals, some of which are located over 30 minutes away. The report examines the issues arising from these changes, including increased wait times for primary care visits and potential violations of patient rights. The author, acting as a compliance officer, addresses the reporter's questions by highlighting the need for additional information on healthcare facilities and the impact on the community. The report emphasizes the importance of patient care, the need to gather more information, and the potential impact on the community's peace and integrity. The report also mentions the use of qualitative, quantitative and mixed research approach.

Question 1
The payer mix has been changed due to the increase in the patients in the hospitals. Hospital
A is the only community hospital in the suburb of Philadelphia which means patients have to
rely on that hospital for healthcare facilities. Many people are suffering from different
diseases which created pressure on the emergency department. Apart from this, the usual
transfer rate has increased due to the increase in patients. Some of the hospitals are also more
than thirty minutes away. The primary care visits are also seen to be increasing within the
community.
Question 2
The information regarding the availability of doctors, nurses, medicines and other healthcare
facilities also need to be gathered in order to provide detailed information regarding the issue.
Question 3
The people of the community are facing huge difficulties due to the lack of adequate
healthcare facilities. The rights of each and every individual to get appropriate healthcare
facilities are being violated. People are suffering from the diseases but they have to face the
issues prevailing in the Hospital A. Peace and integrity of the community is being affected
because people are not happy with the situation in the hospital (Franckhauser, 2013).
Question 4
Transfer of patients considered to be an important aspect as it can provide advanced care to
the patient. However, in this case, the scenario is different as Hospital A is full of patient and
which leads to an increase in wait time. The nearest hospital is about 30 away from Hospital
A which might become a problem for emergency patients. Long wait time could be an issue
for aged patients because they more likely to have a stroke during the wait time. I will meet

my neighbors to check whether they have any health issues or not, and if yes then I will
suggest them to take an appointment with a doctor as early as possible as patients are facing
longer wait time issue (Lisa Zamosky., 2013).
Question 5
I am conscious of the emergency patients as an emergency department of Hospital A has
overwhelmed with emergency patients. In the last month, Hospital A has transferred three
times as many emergency patients to the nearest hospital which is thirty minutes away. The
other of the original book has followed three research approaches, qualitative, qualitative and
mixed method. According to me all three approach does not seems as discrete as it first
appears.
