2HEALTH PROMOTION
Overview of the programme
The chosen topic for the health promotion activity is encouraging the responsible
consumption of alcohol, in line with the health guidelines. Alcohol consumption has become one
of the important issues especially among the adolescents and the adults. Adolescents, especially
the college students are in the edge line who have more tendency to drink alcohol. If adolescents
start drinking at such a small age then they will acquire different diseases including the
malfunctioning of liver, kidney and the other digestive organs. This particular health issue has
been chosen as this is most important evolving problem of the adolescents. The most important
factor is the peer pressure. College going students mostly force the friends or the new students
who join the college to indulge into drinking alcohol (2). The targeted audience of the health
promotion are the adolescent students of the NSW region of Australia. Research studies show
that many health promotions are already done on the reduction of the consumption of alcohol,
the results of those promotion activities show that some of the health promotion has positive
effects on the audiences while most of the audiences just came to visit the promotion activities
(1). Some people listening to the promotion activities gets benefitted from the promotion while
the rest just take the harmful effects of the alcohol to the human body casually. The health
promotion activity continued for 5 weeks.
Programme logic model
‘Be healthy – Reduce alcohol’
The aim of this health promotion is to make the adolescents aware about the responsible
consumption of alcohol. The objectives are:

3HEALTH PROMOTION
To involve the adolescents of the specific NSW region in Australia to be aware about the
consumption of the drinking alcohol.
To use the knowledge of the best available resources and from the researches done till
now in order to do the health promotion.
To make the appropriate plan and the plan which is also sustainable for making the health
promotion effective.
The outcomes of this health promotion are that the adolescents become concerned about the
permissive level of the consumption of alcohol and also that the adolescents may also
become more concerned about the associate health diseases which are bound to happen is the
level of the alcohol consumption increases (3). The activities, impact and the outcomes of the
health promotion are related, the objectives are set in such a way that targeted audience of the
health promotion becomes concerned and become conscious about the reduction of the
consumption of alcohol (4).
Evaluation plan
The evaluation questions regarding the process of the health promotion and about the
execution of the health promotion activities are:
A. How is the programme implemented?
B. Whether the implementation was done according to the plan or not?
C. Whether the programme are reaching the target group or not?
D. Are the participants satisfied with the programme or not?

in such a way that the adolescents would like the programme. Different cases were included in
the health promotion involving the youths who have suffered because of excessive drinking.
These cases were used as examples so that the youths among the audience would also become
aware about the consequences of this particular health promotion activity. In the promotion
activity the different ways which the participants should follow for the purpose of reducing the
consumption of alcohol were taught. The participants were taught to make a record of the days
on which they were supposed to drink (5). They should keep a track upon them so that on the
other days of the week they are not indulged in drinking. They should avoid the peer groups as
far as possible so that no one will be there to motivate them for drinking. As a result they will not
involve in drinking much more. The participants must keep themselves busy in other works as
much as possible so that their mind do not get diverted again to alcohol. Apart from this, the
consequences of the health promotion activity were also clearly described in the programme (7).
Survey was also done among the participants who came in the promotion activity. The results
from the survey was noted that management authority of the health promotion activity tried to
help the participants by providing materials which can help them to reduce the consumption of
alcohol. The implementation was exactly according to the prepared plan. The health promotion
activity successfully reached the target group and the audience was also very much satisfied with
the programme. The participants successfully reduced the consumption of alcohol after the
whole process of intervention was over.
The questions regarding the impact or the outcome of the health promotion:
A. Has the promotion activity produced any intended effects to the audiences?
B. What are those intended effects? Whether the effects have positive or negative impacts
on the audiences?
Document Page
5HEALTH PROMOTION
C. What are the risk factors associated with this health promotion?
The health promotion activity had only positive effects to the audiences. After the 6 months of
the health promotion activity was over, the adolescents were found to have improved a lot. All of
the participants have reduced consumption of alcohol after the whole intervention of the health
promotion activity was over. Few risks were associated with this health promotion activity
regarding the participants (6). Some persons are so habituated with alcohol that they cannot live
without alcohol. Large chances were there regarding these people to argue with the management
of the health promotion activity (12). If any such circumstances would have happened then the
management would have faced much difficulties in managing the whole scenario. The
intervention of the whole health promotion activity would have hampered.

Reports and findings
The results of this health promotion activity was very good and worth to be shared with
other people. The result of this promotion activity was that almost all of the participants who
were involved in the health promotion activity had reduced the consumption of alcohol. After the
5 weeks of the whole intervention was over, again survey was done for the participants to know
the outcome of the intervention. Whether the result or the original outcome of the health
promotion was according with the expected outcomes or not. Fortunately, the result of the
second survey revealed that the outcomes were in line with the expected outcomes only. All of
the participants reduced alcohol consumption. The results deserved to be shared with the other
adolescents so that those people will also not dare to drink much. It must be make sure that in
future, this health promotion activity will be used as an example in other health promotion
activities in order to make the youth conscious about the requirements or the needs to surpass the
consumption of alcohol and the negative effects of excessive consumption of alcohol.

Sustainability plan
The sustainable prevention is the way of enabling the people to control their health and
also to improve their health conditions. In order to reach the state of a complete physical and
mental well-being, an individual or any group of people should be able to identify and realize the
aspirations. To fulfil the needs of the people and to change or to cope with the changing
environment (8). The concept of the sustainability refers to the ways how the program can be
continued and therefore the sustained programme is the best programme which can be defined as
the set of durable activities and also about the resources aimed in the delivering the health
promotion activity (11). The sustained programmes maintain their effects over a long period of
time for the purpose of measuring the long term effects of the health promotion activity. Each
and every health promotion activities have a latent period, which had to be overcome in order to
get the long term benefits of the promotion activity (10). If a health promotion activity has been
found to be very effective in the healthcare activities then if proper sustainable resources are not
there for maintaining the activities then the organization will face loss in the investment for the
promotion activity. In order to continue this health promotion proper financial resources should
be there and at the same time proper man power must be there so that the sustainability of this
health promotion can be maintained (9).
Reflection
This experience of health promotion activity about the reduction of the consumption of
alcohol is one of the important and successful health promotion activity that I have ever done.
Before commencing on this promotion activity I was little afraid as all the participants of this
activity were alcohol addicted and all of them are youth, so risks were there as they might not
allow to continue the promotion activity. But as the promotion activity continued my fear faded

away and the activity went successfully without any outside interruptions. After the whole
process was over my confidence increased a lot regarding the health promotion activities of
reduction in the consumption of alcohol.
While continuing with this health promotion activities, I had experienced both positive as
well as negative things. This is my first health promotion activity regarding the reduction of the
alcohol consumption among the youths of the NSW region and also the first promotion activity
about the alcohol consumption. So if I had any previous experience about the consumption of
alcohol then I would have conducted this health promotion activity in a far better way. The
management of the promotion activity would have arranged this promotion activity in far
moderate way. The positive thing which went well during the whole intervention was that the
coordination of the participants which only lead to the promotion activity to be more effective. If
the participants would not have co-operated with the management authorities the promotion
activity would not become much effective.
I have developed my knowledge much regarding the reasons to reduce the consumption
of alcohol from this health promotion activities, I have also learnt to work co-operatively with
the adolescents who are completely indulged in drinking. I have developed my skills in arranging
the health promotion activities and in future this experience will help me a lot on arranging such
activities. My confidence had increased a lot after completing this activity and in future I will be
able to work on these promotion activities effectively.
