INTRODUCTION
Health promotions and preventing people from ill health are the key priorities of
government. Authorities are continuously making efforts so that they can make people aware
with the benefit of good health (Rod, 2015). Present study is based on Daniel and Fatima. Both
have arrived in the UK as refugees from South Sudan. They belong from the place where
overweight or excess body fat are seen as symbols of wealth and prosperity. They were unaware
with the importance of healthy diet thus, after some time, they have become obese. Current
assignment will describe effects of socio economic influences on Daniel and Fatima's health.
Furthermore, report will discuss reasons and barriers to Daniel and Fatima in accessing health
care. Role of different professionals in health and social care sector will be illustrated in this
study. In addition, report plans promotion campaign and it will explain effects of socio-economic
influences.
TASK 1
1.1 Effects of socio-economic influence on the health of patients
Socio-economic factors are considered as
essential factors in the life of human beings.
These elements influence the person's health to
a great extent. As per the given case scenario,
Daniel and Fatima have five children. They
have come to UK as refugees from South
Sudan. They belong from the culture where
excess body is the symbol of wealth and
prosperity. These persons used to eat fast food,
have fizzy drinks, etc. (Golden and et.al,
2015). Both do not perform any physical
activities which enhance their body weight.
Now, the whole family is suffering from
obesity.
Employment: It is another major factor Socio-economic factors influence the health of

which influences the health condition
of people. If the person has income
sources then they become able to have
a healthy diet. But if the person has
limited income sources then they pay
more attention on earning money
rather than concentrating on their
health (van Berkel and et.al, 2013).
This influences the well-being of
person to a great extent. Daniel and
Fatima are living in the UK as
refugees. Thus, they do not have
income sources and jobs. This is the
reason; they are unable to concentrate
on health and having healthy diet
which influences their health condition
to a great extent.
Education: It is another major
component which affects the health
condition of individuals. Due to poor
education, Daniel and Fatima are
unaware with the importance of
healthy life. They think that
Daniel and Fatima. Effects of these elements
are described as below:
Culture: It is considered as the most
essential element which affect health
condition of individual. As Daniel and
Fatima belong from other cultures
where body weight has been seen as a
sign of wealth (Jørgensen and et.al,
2015). Thus, they are unaware with the
importance of healthy diet and
exercise. This cultural background
creates a mind-set that if they have
excess body weight then it is good for
them. This type of culture put negative
impact on the health of Daniel and
Fatima.

overweight is good. This affects their
well-being and they become unable to
live a healthy life (Fung and et.al,
2016).
Social determinant model of health is highly
related with economic and social conditions.
Both these elements impact on health status of
individual. This model explains that persons
living with working conditions can get suffer
from risk of disease. Unequal distribution of
health damaging experiences and poor social
policies impact on the healths status of the
person to great extent.
1.2 Relevance of government sources
Government plays a significant role in
assessing the level of health of individuals and
take actions so that well-being of individuals
can be improved soon. There are various
government sources that give necessary
information on the health inequalities.
3

Marmot review report: This has been
published in the year 2010. In this
report, it has been identified that how
social class, income and other socio
economic factors impact on the well-
being of individuals (Chan, 2013).
Furthermore, this review report gives
strategies through which these
inequalities can be minimized and
overall health condition of population
can be improved soon.
All these government sources have
adequate information about population health,
issues with them, etc. By this way, authorities
become able to make new strategies which
assist in taking actions for improving the
condition of people.. Thus, authorities can take
action for improving their condition soon
(Klinner and et.al, 2015).
Community health research
foundations and agencies: This is the
agency which continuously conducts
research in order to identify the number
of patients in hospitals and most
common disease in society (Wagner,
Greiner and Heinrich‐Weltzien, 2014).
On the basis of report of this agency,
authority compares data and measures
the success of health promotional
strategies. This supports in
implementing actions so that health and
safety can be maintained in the
community.
Public health and administration
department: It is another source of
government where authorities are
concerned about the health and safety
of population. Thus, it organizes time
to time camps for the society members
so that they can remain healthy and fit
(Dermen, Ciancio and Fabiano, 2014).
Acheson report: It has been published
in the year 1998. This report focuses
more on interrelationship between
social class and health inequalities. This
helps in identifying that to what extent
social class impact on well-being of
individuals.

Black report is another effective government
source that published by department of health
and social security. This report describes about
health inequality and main causes of this
inequalities. This report describes that social
inequalities such as education, diet,
employment major affect health of the person.
1.3 Barriers to access health care services in the country
There are various factors and reasons due to
which Daniel and Fatima are unable to access
the health care. Some of these are:
Social barriers
As both they belong from different
culture thus, they are enjoying their excess
weight and have no issue with it. This is the
reason; they are unable to access health care
(McDowall and et.al, 2017). This is
considered as major barrier. This includes,
culture, education, life style etc. Due to poor
cultural background many times individual
gets failed to get right treatment at right time.

Psychological barriers
It is another major element which
impacts on the person and individual fails to
access the proper health care. Daniel and
Fatima are refugees in the UK and thus, they
have no income sources. This impacts on their
mental condition and it creates psychological
pressure on the family. Thus, this is barrier for
accessing health care for family (Sagner and
et.al, 2016).
Financial barriers
It is the factor which creates issue for
the individuals to live a healthy life. If the
person do not have adequate financial
resources then it impacts on their diet and daily
life as well. By this way there is high chances
that person fail to get right treatment in
hospitals.
TASK 2
2.1 Link between government strategies and models of health promotion
Health promotion can be defined as a way through which government circulates
information and make people aware with the importance of life. In order to promote good living,
government makes effective strategies so that people can be prevented from disease and they can
live a healthy life (Sohl, Birdee and Elam, 2016). Beattie model is most effective health
promotional theory that identifies issues in society and make strategies accordingly so that health
of individuals can be improved. This model has several phases:
Legislative action
6

This ensures that government makes effective policies for the welfare of refugees. This
model ensure that effective laws have been made by authorities so that refugees can proper care
in the country. This strategy can help in health promotion among population (The Beattie Model
applied: Obesity, 2017).

(Source: The Beattie Model applied: Obesity, 2017)
Community development
It is another strategy of the government in which concerned authorities ensure that
community members deal with refugees well and do not discriminate them. This development
can be beneficial for Daniel and Fatima because they will get opportunity to live a healthy life.
Health persuasion
Government implements strategy where it advertises campaign. This encourages people
and they become more concern about their health. By this way they take care of eating habits and
eat healthy diet so that they can remain healthy (De Raeve and et.al, 2017.).
Health counselling
Medical professional give personal counselling to the obese patients and make them
aware with the ways through which their health condition can be improved. They give them
schedule that have to be followed by Daniel and Fatima so that they can minimize adverse
effects of obesity (Chung and et.al, 2016).
Government strategies and model of health promotions have strong relationship. As
Daniel and Fatima are obese and their five children are also suffering from the same illness. If
authorities make effective laws for the refugees then they will be able to adjust in the new

country easily (Fung and et.al, 2016). This will assist them in having healthy diet and they can
improve their well-being soon.
Apart from this, Tones and Tilford health promotion model concentrate on enhancing
awareness among the population. This assist to aware people towards the importance of health
and encourage them to take care of their well-being. These models are helpful in health
promotion and improving condition of Daniel and Fatima (McDowall and et.al, 2017).
Biomedical model of heath is generally applies by medical professionals in diagnosis
disease. It cis biological element that clearly focus on medical condition or elements. It does not
concentrate on psychology, environments;, social influences elements.
Social determinant model of health is another type of theory that has strong relationship
with government strategies. It looks upon group difference in health status. It emphasis on stress,
early life, unemployment, social support, food etc. element that helps the medical professional in
providing care to the patients and help government in making such policies that can be beneficial
for them.
2.2 Role of medical professionals
Government aims to create healthy environment where all people pay full attention on
their health. Authorities are continuously making strategies so that people can be prevented from
several diseases. In order to meet with this target there are many players involve in the strategic
implementation. These are such as medical professionals, consultant, ministers etc.
Ministers are the most important player. Their role is to make effective strategies. They
provide resources to the care homes and other hospitals so that doctors can provide adequate
medical services to the patients (Rod, 2015). This helps them, in improving quality of care
services to great extent. Furthermore, social groups are another key players those who contribute
well in achieving the government target of promoting well-being among population. These social
workers encourage people and make them aware with the prevention methods. This assist in
making them aware with the importance of healthy life and healthy eating. This promotes good
health and they become able to live a healthy life. Furthermore, Medical professionals such as
doctors, nurses are another significant part of promotion. They conduct campaign in the society.
In these campaign they do routine check-up of the society members. By this way they become

known with the issues which affect their health and they suggest them proper treatment so that
their condition can be improved soon (Golden and et.al, 2015).
2.4 Role of routines in promoting healthy living
Routine plays significant role in the health promotion. If person is following appropriate
routine then it helps in living a healthy life and preventing themselves from various diseases. All
persons have some specific habits, sometimes, these habits impact negative on their health
condition badly. In such condition it becomes essential for the person to follow appropriate
routine so that they keep them away from diseases. Healthy diet, regular exercise keep the person
healthy and fit. It improves immune system of the individual which supports them in living
healthy life (Jørgensen and et.al, 2015). As per the given case scenario, Daniel and Fatima
belong from other culture where having fast food and drinks are very common. They think that
having excess body weight is the sign of wealth. In such condition they do not care for their
health thus, Daniel, Fatima and their five children all are suffering from obesity (Wagner,
Greiner and Heinrich‐Weltzien, 2014). If the person is following routine healthy living then it
helps in improving their health status. This improves health status of the person. Proper diet and
exercise supports the person in improving their immune system by this way person can fight
against the common disease.
If Daniel and Fatima follow schedule and make timetable of diet then it will be beneficial
for them in improving their condition. They are required to do physical exercise daily so that
their bod weight can be reduced and they can be fit. This is the way that can promote healthy
living and can improve well-being of entire family. Daniel and Fatima have to eat healthy diet.
They have to use fruits, proper meal rather than taking fast food in their eating schedule. This
will assist in fulfilling requirement of protein and vitamins in their body (Dermen, Ciancio and
Fabiano, 2014). By having healthy diet individual can control over their body weight and can
keep themselves away from diseases.
By following correct routine individual can see the results and notice improvement in the
health condition. With the assistance of this, they will be able to observe changes in their life
style which may improve their living. Routine makes them person able to understand specific
situation so that they can make changes in their daily scheduling accordingly. This assists in
promoting health and improving well-being of individuals (Klinner and et.al, 2015).

TASK 3
3.1 Translation of health belief into behaviour
Health behaviour theories explains the behaviour of individual so that medical
professional can provide them treatment accordingly. Most of the time, beliefs of individual
reflect in their behavioural aspects. Health behaviour theories are such as Midrange, integrated
theory etc. All these models explain the real condition of the person and support in improving
well-being of individuals. It is fact that social economic factors influence their health condition
of the person. Culture, education, income etc. change their perception and people fail to
concentrate on their well-being (Sohl, Birdee and Elam, 20160. Change model is the most
effective theory that explains several phases in the life of person which supports in measuring
changes in the behaviour of individuals. Pre contemplation: It is the phase in which people think that they are living healthy life
and no need of further changes. For example Daniel and Fatima believe that having
excess body weight is good for them thus, they do not consider to change their behaviour. Contemplation: In this stage people think that there is need to make changes in the
behaviour thus, they plan to do the same in coming future. Daniel and Fatima now realise
that this habit of eating unhealthy food is not good which has caused obesity in the family
(Chung and et.al, 2016). Thus, they need to make plan so that their health can be
improved soon. Preparation: This is another stage which reflects that person has intention to take action
for improving well-being. They implement some actions for improving their condition. Action: It is the stage in which health behaviour of the person has got changed for the
short duration. Maintenance: Now behaviour of the person has got changed completely and they have to
maintain this behaviour (McDowall and et.al, 2017).
Termination: Now they think that there is no need to come again towards the prior
negative behaviour.
It reflects that health belief are translated into the behaviour,. If the person think that
individual wants changes in their health then they can make changes but if their belief that there
is no need of modification then they fail to do the same.
