2HEALTH PROMOTION: REFLECTION
Introduction
The main aim of the paper is to reflect on the experience of health promotion activity.
The reflection has used the model of Driscoll, which is used to explain the skill and knowledge
that I have developed from the nursing project related to health promotion. The model has three
processes related with a description of the event, analysis of the event and relevant action. The
phases helped me to reflect on individual performance in comparison with a group activity. The
model has assisted in improvising myself, and my future understanding of the nursing practise in
relation to health promotion.
Description of event
Health promotion event was my life-changing experience, where I got a golden chance to
increase my knowledge in nursing practice. I have participated in an event which focuses on
health promotion. I was supposed to represent a presentation on social determinants along with
my team members who were assigned to give a lecture on different topics. We had four members
in our team, and the event was depended on teamwork and time management. Peoples of all ages
and sex crowded the event. Many of them came with their family members. I was busy handling
their kids to make them seated and trying to calm the situation. However, I was having a problem
with managing it. As this was a group assignment, it was of prime importance to work together.
However, all of us were engaged in their own assigned work. I was not getting time to
communicate with my team members. So, we were connected through social media. And I have
to wait for a response in a needy situation. Apart from this, my experience of giving a lecture
was remarkable. During my presentation, I got enough time to deliver my narration on social

determinant in front of peoples. I communicated with them and encouraged them to ask
questions. I received positive feedback from my head for effectively managing the time.
Analysis of event
Through my participation in a health promotion event with my group member, I analysed
that to become a skilled nurse; I should be able to manage the time and be patient. With my
involvement in health promotion event, I learned that in nursing practice, team spirit is required
to work effectively (Elliott, Farnum and Beauchesne 2016). As per the principle of health
promotion, team-based health care is known to contribute quality care to the patients (Reiss-
Brennan et al. 2016). In order to make it work smoothly, I think that synchronization is required
among the team members, and I should be skilled in quality communication with them as well as
with patients. In the event, I observed that people were becoming anxious, and I was facing
difficulty in managing them. I struggled with keeping my patience in the event.
Further, I have to wait for my team to respond to my messages and help. I analyse that for
an emerging nurse, patience is an essential aspect of health promotion (Edelman, Mandle and
Kudzma 2017). I also identified that to become a competent nurse, and it is essential to learn the
skills of team management (Black 2018). For future practice, time management and teamwork
must be included to develop our expertise and knowledge with respect to health promotion
(Greaves et al. 2018). Therefore, I can say that with the quality contribution of my team
members, helped me to improve my intellectuals of health promotion principles. With the team
activity, I got to learn about time management. We succeeded in giving the lecture within time
and received positive feedback. Thus, I can say that as an emerging nurse, the skill I learned
from my co-team members has enabled me to re-examine my nursing skill in order to match
them with the health promotion principles.

Proposed action
The most crucial aspect of health promotion is developing personal skills (Miranda et al. 2015).
From the health promotion event, I analysed the importance of time management, patience and
teamwork with the help of my group member and their collaboration. My active participation in
the event helped to imbibe the critical understanding of the principle of health promotion. My
team member helped me in those areas where I lacked behind, like in maintaining patience. As I
stated, we were not having time for face to face communication; we managed it with contacting
through social media. When I tried to contact them, I have to wait for their reply as they were
also busy in their respective work. Through such incidence, I learned to be patient and calm.
Another thing I learned from the group assignment is the importance of teamwork. My team
member cooperated with me when I was having an issue in delivering my lecture. From this, I
learned that in the nursing field, efficient team is required for giving quality care to the patient.
For example, if I am not having an idea about the nursing intervention, I will need guidance and
knowledge from my senior. Hence, teamwork and team bases care are the proven concept in
health promotion principles, which I got to learn from the group assignment and event.
To include this, I will receive training for efficient teamwork and additionally, I will
propose an essential skill of patience and effective communication between the team members
(Peters et al. 2018). I will try to include team spirit in my nursing career. I will include my
learning in nursing practice to give adequate care and enhance health promotion activity among
the care seekers (Herrmann, Woermann and Schlegel, 2015).

Conclusion
Lastly, from the above discussion, it can be said that as an emerging nurse, I gained
knowledge that helps me to validate my nursing skill through my experience in group assignment
of health promotion. Such skills enabled me to adhere to health promotion principles. Driscoll
model has supported me to analyse my experience from all phase of life. It has worked to set a
fundamental framework for the demonstration of my ability to explain my skills and recognise
those that will improve the health promotion practice. I believe that with the employment of
Driscoll reflection has helped me to rise as a professional nurse through the application of my
concept and practice.
