Homework Assignment
AI Summary
This homework assignment is a holistic health assessment of a case study involving Mr. Tony, focusing on key health indicators. The assessment begins by defining normal temperature ranges and identifying indicators of elevated temperature in Mr. Tony's case, followed by an explanation of systolic and diastolic blood pressure measurements and an analysis of Mr. Tony's blood pressure readings in relation to normal ranges. The assignment then delves into Mr. Tony's lifestyle, identifying modifiable risk factors, such as inactive habits and unhealthy foods, and proposes an intervention involving increased physical activity, specifically brisk walking, to mitigate these risks. The response highlights the importance of lifestyle changes and provides a practical approach to improving cardiovascular health, referencing relevant sources to support the analysis.

1] State when a temperature measurement is not considered in a normal range and what
are the indicators that Mr. Tony has temperature above normal range?
Fever is a condition characterized by an elevation of body temperature that is beyond the usual
body temperature. This increase in temperature is mediated by the peripheral mechanisms, which
in turn activates the hypothalamus, the temperature regulatory centre of the body. The
measurement of body temperature can be taken orally, rectally or from the armpit. Under normal
conditions, the body exhibits a body temperature of 36 ºC-37 ºC. And the temperature of the
rectum is observed to be 0.6 ºC higher than oral temperature. Studies have shown that towards
evening the body temperature increases by at least 0.6 ºC.
Mr. Tony has reported warm skin with a body temperature of 37.9 ºC. The problem does not
mention the means by which the temperature was measured. A case of fever can be confirmed
only if the body exhibits a body temperature of 37.2 ºC by morning and 37.8 ºC by evening.
Keeping the following details in mind, it can be inferred that Mr. Tony has a fever.
2] Define systolic and diastolic blood pressure [BP] measurements. What are the indicators
from case study that Mr. Tony may have a blood pressure above normal range?
Blood pressure is defined as pressure of blood flowing in the circulatory system. It is the force
and rate with which blood flows, also depended on factors such as diameter and elasticity of the
vessels. It has two categories; Systolic and Diastolic Blood Pressure. Systolic pressure is
recorded during the contraction of the left heart ventricle. Mean normal value of systolic pressure
should be 120mm of Hg. Diastolic pressure is recorded during the relaxation of the ventricles of
the heart. Mean normal value of diastolic pressure is 80mm of Hg [3].

Ranges of Blood Pressure are categorized as Normal BP, Pre-hypertension, Hypertension Stage 1
and 2 and finally, hypertensive crisis [3]. Hypertension is a condition that renders a patient with
abnormal heart rates and a person can only be confirmed with having hypertension after
continuous observation. Rates of BP are subject to vary depending on the amount of stress,
physical activity, diet and lifestyle [3].
In the following problem, Mr. Tony has a recorded BP of 145/78mm of Hg, which is above the
mean normal value. But hypertension cannot be confirmed without further testing.
3] Based on Tony’s current lifestyle, what are the two modifiable risk factors? Discuss one
intervention in the prevention of one of the modifiable risk factors.
Based on Tony’s current lifestyle it can be said that he is not following a healthy routine. Factors
that contribute to an illness are known as risk factors [1]. Overweight is a risk factor to suffering
from cardiovascular disease and is a nutrition-related risk to healthy aging [2]. Mr. Tony’s
lifestyle show the following modifiable and non-modifiable risk factors such as inactive habits,
unhealthy foods and isolation and non-modifiable factors like family history of the disease and
his gender.
Intervention:
Mr. Tony will have to incorporate major lifestyle changes by making physical activity a part of
his daily routine. If Mr. Tony cannot start with exercising immediately, he should start by brisk
walking. Brisk walking will help him with reducing his waist circumference, decreasing body
weight and improving his cardiovascular condition. He can register to be a part of walking

groups to be motivated and to recover from his social isolation. Mr. Tony can incorporate
walking into his daily schedule like grocery shopping etc. among other activities.
