INTRODUCTION
Home health nursing is a nursing where the nurse provide home care services to patients
of all ages. Heathy and safety are most important for the individual and it is cost-efficient for the
patients and nurse to deliver the quality health and safety care to patients at clients nursing home.
Nurse creates the plan according the diseases of patients. It helps in providing the recovery care
and safety at nursing home. There are various challenges which are faced by the company such
as staff shortage, decline profits, etc.
The chosen company is Barchestor healthcare company which is an independent care
services provider in the United Kingdom. The company operates the seven register hospitals in
the country and well as it run to 250 care homes for the patients and provide quality services to
clients. The company have the 17000 more employees staff in the care home that provide the
nursing care and residential care. This report will discuss the evaluate the area of practice in the
health and safety on nursing home and audit of an aspects of health at work as well as skills
which are required to fulfil a health related role in the workplace.
MAIN BODY
Nursing homes are those organizations or entities which are providing different health
related services to their customers. These homes are having their great significance since in the
nation there are around 17600 care homes or nursing homes in UK. Nursing homes are
accounting around 30% of the total amount of care homes in UK. These are having their great
significance since majority of them are providing services to old age people are people who are
suffering form dementia or such type of severe disease (Gilissen, et al. 2020)
In the area of nursing home the responsibilities of such organizations becomes quite
bigger since they are serving those people who might have severe issues in term of their health
and a minute mistake or recklessness may lead to serious damages. Barchester Healthcare is one
of such organization which is engaged in nursing home services. The organization is having
around 17000 staff and there are approximately 250 care homes (Kinley, et al. 2018)
The role of Nursing homes is playing great role, they are providing full time care to
patients. It is becoming helpful for those people who are not having enough time to spend on
their close ones. They are looking for such services so can enshrine better health care. With this
regard, the role of such nursing homes become quite great. They are ensuring and providing the
best quality services.

Contrasting the above notion, there are some issues too. One of the biggest issue faced by
such patients is lack of emotional ambiance. Generally, in such nursing homes the business is
being carried out in traditional way but lack of proper emotional bond makes it lethal and bring
danger outcomes on the emotional state of such patient who are already experiencing bad and
bitter pills. Lack of healthy environment is another segment where these houses are having need
to work upon (Buchan, Seccombe and Smith, 2018)
There are some disease which are incurable or may be next to be incurable. Such patients
generally face the problem of exclusion. They are kicked out by the society and even face perils
such as character assassination. It not only hike their mental bother but at the same time may
become reason of moving towards suicide. The suicide rate in UK is 11.2 which shows that out
of 100000 population there are almost eleven people are loosing their life (Spacey, et al. 2018)
So it becomes essential to rip off that what are those drivers. It can be reduced with the help of
such home cares.
Besides, the positive argument shared above, it would not be unfair to conclude that these
nursing houses are providing better social care to patients. They are helping patients to have an
active social life. They would be able to have a well scheduled life, they would be given proper
treatment, health facilities, nurturing and calm environment etc. It is not possible for households
to provide same set of facilities.
But it is also seen that such nursing houses have been failed to fulfil this environment
related requirements of patients. They are not paying proper attention, poor behaviour of nurses,
poor ambiance, poor response time, low quality food etc. These all are affecting ability of such
houses to revert best set of services to the clients. The patients are not living with their families
so there is need to consider their personal desires, in order to take them out form mental trauma.
There has been number of occasion when people found home care as the best alternative
and it is helping them to do better in health care sector. In UK, with the development of time,
people are facing jeopardy of health concerns where such institution not only paves the way
forward but also surge the overall outcomes of health measures in a society.
Safety has been always a tough nut for nursing homes. They are less likely to abide
with all norms and some additional safety practises. It is seen that they generally do not use

is behind poor performance of nursing home and it is not able to get the patients satisfied.
The nursing homes have been notorious when it comes to safety practices. There are
some issues such as Medication errors, Patient discharge related issues, ageing hospital
facilities, sepsis, reprocessing issues, diagnostic errors, workplace safety issues etc. The life of
patients, medical staff, para medical staff come under suspiciousness, and they might get
suffered. These all things happen due to poor safety measures and control. These safety issues
are somehow leading to some severe perils too. As it has been experienced multiple times that
organization who are engaged in home nursing and not complying with safety norms are facing
jeopardies of winning belief of their clients (Smith, 2019)
Barchester is one of the most prominent house care organization. The entity is abiding
with safety and health norms in order to extend the best set of services to its clients and also
strives to make them thrive with healthy and safe environment. As it has promised to provide
“Tailored services”, “Online booking system”, for mental health “Life enrichment programmes”
etc. are being carried out (Cambra-Badii, et al. 2021) The purpose of these practises is very much
clear the organization is striving to fetch healthy and safe ambiance for its patients so can help to
make their health improved.
One of the model which is known as “Roy Adaptation Model” is one of the famous
model in nursing. This model is used to ensure the roles and responsibilities performed by
nurses. In the nursing homes there is need to abide with it, in order to ensure that all the activities
must be performed with proper compliance and attentiveness. The model suggests five elements
such as- Person, Goal of nursing, Health, Nursing Activities, Environment. These all segments
are supposed to be given high attention so can eradicate any sense of inferiority. Barchester
Healthcare who is known for the quality health services it is providing, may go for such practice
and this model will enable it to hike its overall performance and can improve all those areas
where it may face difficulties (Younas and Quennell, 2019)
“Johnsons behaviour system theory” is also helpful when it comes to nursing homes
and their work quality improvement. It evaluates a person as behavioural system, there are seven
subsystems too. Which are to be given importance if organization wants to fetch best practises, it

performance (Butts and Rich, 2021)

that needs to be followed. Let's understand the four steps of the audit carefully.

informed about the audit so that they can bring the important document that are needed. Also,
their input is necessary to have the idea of the premises and the workplace environment at the

potential hazard that exist in the Barchester healthcare. It is important to look at the hazards first
and then identify the solutions (Elliott, 2020). And the review of the same will be done. The
program must cover the best industry practices in the organization. For a healthcare organization
the safety of the employees is really important as they are constantly being exposed to the
bacteria. A measure which constantly sanitizes the environment, air purifiers, wearing of masks,
having fire safety premises, earthquake safe buildings, and other safety practices that improves
the well being of the employees.
The very third step is to make the recommendations based on the above findings. Once a
checklist of the things is created now for the purpose of audit it is quite clear in what respect we
need to check the barchester's workplace safety. Checking for each such aspect and writing down
what are they lacking and what threats this can cause to the employees in both short term and
long term. Work environment must be free from the accidents and injuries as it attracts the

The feeling of assurance is such that it motivates employees to come to the workplace.

there is always room for the improvement. The company being a giant and having large number

not being careful can impact the working of the company in both short term and long term. These
safety measures which are mentioned above must be checked from time to time as in this fast
changing world it is important to stay updated with the current advancement which can enhance
the company's safety further (Sirgo and et.al., 2021). The audit at the end of each year must be
made mandatory just like the financial audits at the work place. This measure can improve the
relation of the stakeholders of the company. It is important for the Barchester to make the safety

organization.
There are various skills and competencies which are required in the home nursing for health care
profession. The skills and competencies helps in survive in the health care sectors and Barchestor
healthcare company. These skills and competencies helps in fulfil the health related role in the

In the context of Empathy skills, in the health care profession, the empathize with patient
are most significant because they are facing the difficult situations and the awareness about the
patients emotions and feelings are most important because it important to understand the patients

comes naturally to the people. The communication skills are also most important in the ensuring
home for the rapidly response top the patients and clients in the effective ways and also
communicate in the appropriate manner with respects. The healthcare workers in the Barchestor
healthcare company. They have to communicate with the patients and it families on the daily
basis as well as it helps in create the strong relationship with the patients and it families for the
mentally support. So, the communication skills are also most important in the health care sectors.
Teamwork skills are also most important in the healthcare on nursing home because the people
must working towards the patents care and provide them proper foods to work in team, and they
must have to handle the problems of patients and its families to working together in a team

operated in UK with wide number of beds and facilities. In the nation there are lacks of people
who are acquiring such services. They are greatly depended on nursing home services for their
health concerns. Over the time, it has been seen that these nursing homes are having some issues
and which are revering negative repercussions to the clients.
The report presented fully fledged evaluation of practices within nursing home sector. To
perceive different aspects of elements which are having their great significance, then an audit
was presenting depicting different aspects of Health and safety on nursing home. It also
elaborated those areas where severe attention is needed to be paid. At the end of this case study
an evaluation has been made reflecting key skills and competencies were required to fulfil health
related requirements at workplace.
