1.1 Define main responsibilities for health and safety at workplace
At workplace health and safety measures must be followed. For this there are some
responsibilities of both employer and employee.
Employers- they are responsible for formulating policies and taking effective measures. The
employer is responsible for safety of employees. Also, they are responsible for implementation
of policies formed and monitoring it (Lyons, 2019). The employer has to ensure that there are
proper safety measures installed in overall organization. It is essential for them to review and
make changes accordingly. They must write policies and discuss it with employees. Employer is
also accountable for conducting risk assessment.
Employees- they are responsible for following policies formed and using those safety measures
in case of any incident. The employees also ensure that safety equipments are installed at
workplace. However, employees should cooperate with co workers and help them. They are
responsible for own health and safety as well.
1.2 Two health and safety laws affecting workplace
There are several safety laws that affect workplace. They are defined below :-
Health and safety act 1974- It states that employer must protect health and safety of employees
at workplace. The employer is responsible for safety of employees. The local authorities are
responsible for enforcing this act. It enforces business to install and take proper safety measures
to provide safe working environment. This enables in providing safe environment and reducing
incidents.
Health and safety regulation 1992- It covers basic health and safety issues that must be applied
at workplace. The regulation forces employer to follow code of practice such as maintaining
proper atmosphere, lighting, seating, etc. (Lay and et.al., 2016) So, there must be proper
workplace facilities available. Thus, it helps in providing safe atmosphere to work in.
1.3 Importance of health and safety procedure at workplace
It is very important to follow procedure at workplace so that operations are performed n
effective way. It also keeps people safe from any hazardous activity. Also, the incidents that
occur are decreased. The safety procedure allows staff to take appropriate safety measures.
Through this, safety of patient is ensured. Moreover, the policies are followed by staff that
provides a safe workplace. Alongside this, it enables staff to complete their work in time and

improves efficiency. If effective procedures are followed it creates a good image in industry. The
people get attracted to work in such an environment. Apart from it, procedure helps in
minimizing legal requirements. The employees work freely and goals are attained in specified
time.
1.4 Types of information available in health and safety at workplace
It is necessary to maintain health and safety at workplace so that incidents are not
occurred. This can be done by improving them or making changes in it. For this information is
required regarding it. It includes info related to laws and regulations. In addition, the tools and
equipments that must be installed. Also, what steps is to be followed in case of any incident
happen and how it can be mitigated.
PART B
2.2 Equipment and tools in workplace
I was working as electrical engineer, so I used many tools and equipments. I always wear
plastic gloves while repairing wires. Also, I use measuring devices and power saws to record
power supply. I carried by safety kit in which there was certain safety equipments.
2.3 How to prevent incident at workplace
There are many ways to prevent incident at workplace. First is mock drill can be done
which will give insight to employees that what they have to do in case of incident. Another
method is to provide training on ways through which incident can be prevented. Besides this, the
instructions can be followed for performing activities. Also, by installing an alert system it will
help through alert in case of any incident. Through this, it can be prevented.
2.4 How health and safety practices can be improved
By performing my practices I analysed that there require some improvements at
workplace. I need to use equipments such as insulated gloves, ladder, etc. to work safely. I need
to use detectors so that voltage can be measured. Thus, by these safety practices can be
improved.
