INTRODUCTION
Health care organisation provide services to people who suffer from different types of
diseases or disabilities. They need to make sure that all the treatment and activities carried out
should be safe and secure. The present report is based on the Highgate care home which provide
care for both older people with complex care needs and younger adults with physical disabilities.
This report covers different types of laws and legislation that health care home must follow in
respect to provide treatments. Apart from this different potential hazard will be identified at the
health and social care organisation.
P1 Potential hazard in health or social care setting
At Highgate there are 6 main potential hazard that can harm people services provider and
users. This all are as follows:
Physical environment hazard: A physical environment hazard is can be opening widow
that could be risky for children. Along with this, physical hazard can be indoor or outdoor. In
indoor it includes poor lighting and poor ventilations. On the other side in outdoor hazard if path
become wet or slippery than it leads to increase chances of risk (Folland, Goodman . and Stano,
2016).
Equipment hazard: An equipment hazards if consist of thing that can cause potential
harm to an individual at the work place. For instance, leaving of the cleaning product that can
harm a service user at the workplace.
Substance hazard: Substance hazard that could be harm the health of an individual at the
health care setting. Further paint and glue which is left out can harm patient if it unable to see it
properly,
Working condition: Due to working environment hazard can take place at the health care
setting. For instance poor staff training or environment itlself can lead to hamr staff member and
service provider.
Working practices: Poor working practices can harm an individual at the Highgate care
home. It is because of staff members are not skilled then they are unable to carry out their work
in an effective manner and increase chances of harm (Goff, Lloyd-Jones and Robinson, 2014).
Harm and abuse: At Highgate health can social care it is essential for service provider to
be aware of sign and symptoms of abuse and should know what is need to do in such situations.

There are some important legislation policies and procedure which health care setting must
adopt in respect to influence effective care. Data Protection Act 1998 as per this act it is
important for Highgate to keep all the information of patient safely and securely. Storing
information should be kept for longer as it is important to kept. However, the accidental
destruction of data lead to impact the patient and others (Finkelman, 2015). Further company can
follow health and safety work act 1974 according to it is important for Highgate to focus on
providing removing the risk from workplace and provide safe and secure environment to both
staff member and services providers. It is important to all the rules mentioned in guideline should
be followed strictly for ensuring safety and security. Apart from this COSHH (Control of
Substances Hazardous to Health') it is also one of the act that can be followed by at health care
homes. As per this act it is important for management to keep all the substance hazardous safely
in respect to prevent patient from getting harm.s
P3 Risk assessment at Highgate care setting
To carry out risk assessment is important at the Highgate care setting as because with the
help of this it will become easy to remove all the hazard from the workplace and provide safe
treatment to service users (Goff, Lloyd-Jones and Robinson, 2014). After identifying hazard, it
is essential to measure its risk level. Therefore two risk which is identified at the workplace is
keeping dangerous equipment carelessly and staff infection.

P4 Possible priorities and responses while dealing with two particular incidents
First incident is to keep the patient far from area where risk is high. At the time when patient
mistakenly move to area where chance of getting harm is high then it is important for services
provider to take care of it and lock the area or put sign of dangerous so that people avoid visiting
there (Lim, Vos and Aryee, 2013). Next situation is that at the time when fire occur at Highgate
workplace then it is important for services provider to take out all the patient as soon as possible
so that they do not get harm. Further patient who are disable should be provide help in getting
out from health care homes with the use of lift. These both are the possible priority of service
provider at the Highgate care homes.
Conclusion
From the above report it is concluded that, at health care setting it is important to provide
treatment to patient at the safe environment. There are different legislation that is need to be
followed by service provider so that chance of risk can be avoided. Further it is conclude that
risk assessment help in measuring the risk level and removing it completely from the workplace.
