Managing health and safety of employers has become essential to maintain the work
environment. It also affects the rate of employee retention level. Industries that needs to more
focus on the company’s health and safety procedures are mining oriented industrial company,
heavy instrumental using and others. This text focuses on the impact of the safety procedures and
management of a company based in Victoria, namely BHP Billiton. The Australia based
company operates on the mining sector and have minerals like Copper, iron ore, potash, and in
petroleum based company (BHP Billiton | Health and safety, 2017). This mining needs some
heavy risks that are involved in the miner’s life (Muhoho, 2014).
BHP health and safety
The company has some good safety procedure that they ensure the company workers and
contractors abide by. The standards defined by the company are most common safety risks and
controls. Their operation assesses the objectives that need to be fulfilled without fatalities. They
always focus on the routine engagement and interaction to improve safety performance,
contractors safety committees, pre-start meetings, infield leaders discussing job specific safety
risks, safety toolbox talks("BHP Billiton | Health and safety", 2017).. Permit to work on confined
space entry, hot work, breaking systems containing hazardous materials are analysed and then

reviewed. This factor also affects the turnover behaviour of the company.

The turnover of the employees of an organisation depends on the employee’s engagement
and individual commitment towards their organisation. The employees who experiences lower
engagement, Learning and development have higher intention to leave the organisation (Barling
Loughlin & Kelloway, 2012). The companies who focuses on employee satisfaction and have
excellent development, training and promotion programs enjoys more employees loyalty and
satisfaction rate, which directly or indirectly converts to low turnover rate. Here, the focuses on
the relationship between turnover intention and health and safety procedures of a mining
company BHP Billiton in Victoria. Company’s operation involves heavy mining equipments that
involve certain risks. The manufacturing industries employees shows positive attitude towards

of work environment and the hidden bottom line losses have long been an headache for

losses. The facility managers have an important role in the building a sustainable safety
standards and also establish health managements programs (George, 2015). Safety in workplace

injuries and manufacturing labours is proportional (Van, Fruytier & Thunnissen, 2013). In
addition, the labours are more victimized by the workplace hazards and they are more prone to
physical repercussions on fatal injuries (Gayathiri 2013). Therefore, skill and motivation is
proportional correlated to employee turnover ratio. Small mistakes can have more disastrous
outcome, therefore, government should promote occupational health and safety vigorously to
reach the common goal of quick warning, prevention, and protection systems for all (Ismail,
Doostdar & Harun, 2012). The need to provide a reasonably safe and healthy work place
environment for internal employees has long been the responsibility of management and the
company as a whole (Aikens et al., 2014). Nevertheless, employee’s protection is a related to the
achievement of the organisational goals and objective (Liyanage & Galhena, 2012). World
Health Organisation has some gold rules that they communicate with every organisation and has
set some standards to make a public workplace safer. Mines regulation and electrical safety in
companies, which are more prone to workplace accidents, needs transparency in their work
regulations (Barling Loughlin & Kelloway, 2012). Possibility of safety alerts and preventing in
rushes in the underground mining needs checking, development and maintenance at the highest
priority. The fire and explosion in mines must be prevented at highest cost ("BHP Billiton |
Health and safety", 2017). Ventilation in the mines and blinds saving the labours are of utmost
importance. Accidents aversion not possible but a good compensation program for the deceased
in the accidents is beneficial (Idris et al., 2012). Ground controls and the roadways needs
