INTRODUCTION
This assignment aims at providing information on care and safety to the service users by
explaining about national policies, legislation, and regulations. It mentions the effect of these
policies on services like Fleetwood hall home and suggests ways of improving services to

because she didn't want it. in order to provide best possible treatment the straps need to be
used to hold her but it is not her choice or interest and this leads to a dilemma for service
provider as to what can be done to improve health as well and to respect patient decision as
well. These dilemmas can sometimes become a problem for service users in providing efficient
care and comfort. This needs to be resolved by implying ethical guidelines provided by NHS to
resolve such dilemmas and take the right decision for service users. In this case, guidelines will
help service providers to make the decision depending on what can harm Mrs. Y more, which is

An individual working in an organization in the health and social care sector has a number of
responsibilities which they have to fulfill. I have learned many skills and have accustomed
myself to abide by my duties and responsibilities. The policies and legislations implemented by
organizations guided me into performing my role properly. Every individual working in a care
home should follow a code of conduct that demands the virtue of honesty, ethics, compassion
and respect from them. The staff members should respect their coworkers as well as their
patients and must provide them every assistance that they need. Mutual respect and
understanding is very important to run a care home. The services provided to the service users

should be as per their requirements and need. All the facilities provided to the service users like
bathrooms, beds, food etc. should be hygienic. Hand hygiene should also be given importance
(Mehtar et al, 2008). The staff members should be informed about the illness of each member in
the care home and they should work as a team to device an efficient treatment plan for all the
service users. The facilities provided for the treatment of the patients should be efficient and up
to date. One of the most important skill that is required to fulfill the role of a health and social
care worker is communication. As a healthcare worker, I have built good communication with all
my colleagues as well as my patients. Communication is necessary as it gives you an insight of
other person’s thought process. Maintaining good communication with the patients helped me
understand the thought process of my patients which in turn helped me to provide the services
they needed. Good communication also builds trust and thus the patients can also relieve their
psychological stress, which accelerates their treatment. Maintaining good communication with
my coworkers made me understand their goals and gave me an insight to their opinions which
helped all of us work together as a team (Mitchell et al, 2012). The service that is to be provided
to the users should be patient centered and thus the patient must be allowed to make decisions
regarding their treatment.

guidelines from the external agencies. The policies that are set up by the care homes should be
in accordance with the needs of the patients in the care home. These policies should be
implemented and amended on a regular basis to avoid any conflicts within the organization. I
worked in a care home for elderly people and the care home implemented their own policies
apart from the policies set up by the external agencies. These legislations were formulated by
the opinions of the staff members and by the relevance of the complaints lodged by the service
users. Since, most of the complaints were of misconduct and ill-treatment, strict laws were laid
down which demanded all the members of the organization to attend to their patients
respectfully. These policies instilled dignity and equality among the members of the organization
and thus it also built a healthy environment for the patients. Policies should also be
