SUBJECT: A summary of detail perception based on disability, health, behaviour nd
illness
Q1: Analysis of health, illness, disability and attitude in relation to care users of health
along with social care [P1.1]
Health is a physical well being where there is presence of complete physical, social and
mental status. A perfect health status does not include any kind of disabilities and disorders,
therefore, human can perform their work and daily activities perfectly (Thomas et al. 2016).
Illness concept deals with period of illness ns sickness that adversely affects mind and
body. In case of illness, medical practitioners diagnosed malfunctioning within the body and
they provide right medication to treat the diseases precisely (Swift, 2016). It has been seen
that illnesses occur in human body when immune system does not provide right response
against the viruses and it reduces present health status of body. Wellness curriculums are
strictly followed by service provider so that they can prepare their strategy of medicinal
treatment as per requirement of their care users (Jowsey et al. 2016).
Disability acts as umbrella term where it includes all kinds of restrictions, impairment and
limitation to inhibit individual to perform their daily activities smoothly. For instance, asthma
mitigates normal respiration system that hampers individual capability to perform daily
activities. Nelson and Staggers (2016) opine that two model that are social and medical
model are used to define specific needs of people. As per the social model, impaired
people are not given any kinds of priority for their impairment issues. Medical model are
used to define impairment experiences in context to normal body’s shape and activity.
Behaviour is the way through which one executes oneself in front of others. Tavares and
Oliveira (2016) depicts that attitude is a range of actions made by individual in respect with
environment and other individual in community. Learned helplessness training are given by
care providers to common people so that they can provide basic helping hands to people
who are physically challenged (Iorio, 2015).

Q2. Analysis of how perceptions about specific demands have changed
In the case study, Mr Graves has stomach problems and physical disability. Mr.Graves
mental disability fails him to identify his way back to home. Physical disability of Mr. Graves
are tremor in his arms and hands, difficulty in swallowing medicine and he also feels difficulty
to stand on his own. It has been seen that in the case study that local people are quite
offended about care home performance and service due to Mr. Graves is not improving from
his present status. However, as per the Human right Act 1998, independent people can go
out from his house on his own and it is under human rights.
It is essential that care providers should provide right medication and right medical treatment
to care users so that they can handle their diseases perfectly. In the case study, it has been
observed that Mr. Graves does not get right treatment and care from “Sheltered Home with
Care” due to which he often lost his way to return home. Additionally, other physical issues
also hampers his heath status, therefore, Mr. Graves cannot stand on his own.
Perception towards individual with specific needs in UK is viewed differently. Community
shows mixed responses to disable people such as in some cases they are tolerable and in
some cases they are misjudged and mistreatment also occurs. In the case study, local
community provides helpful hands to Mr. Graves so that he can find his way to return home
care. On the other hand, home care executives’ also let him go alone in spite of knowing his
mental ability.
Q3. Analysis of impact of present and past legislation, society, social policies, and
culture on the ways services are made available for care users such as Mr Graves and
his family [P1.3, M1]
Current rules and regulation of UK supports care users with specific needs after
implementation of certain acts such as ‘Mental Health Act 2007’, ‘Health and Social Care Act
2008 and 2012, ‘Community Care Act 1996’, ‘Disability Discrimination Act 2003’ and other
rules and regulation. It has been observed that Health and Social Care Act 2008 and 2012
has introduced new regulator is known as Care Quality Commission to improve quality of
social and medical care services in modern community of UK (qcs.co.uk, 2019).
Social and cultural aspects deal with social attitudes, population growth and lifestyle choices
of modern people. Wang et al. (2017) stated that health care councils should take effective
responsibility to decreases the rate of common diseases by reducing cost of vaccination,
performing campaign based on common diseases causes and its remedy. ‘Disability
Discrimination Act 1995’ included that disable people should not be discriminated or

harassed on any basis and they have full right to live their life as per their own style
(rnib.org.uk, 2019). Furthermore, in this Act certain equipments and medical treatment
strategy are mentioned that guides medical practitioners to meet all demands of disable
people systematically. Therefore, it can be concluded that health and Social care Act
improves present medical treatment and health service should be provided to care users
without any kind of discrimination.
Summary
This task glorifies about rules and regulation based on medical treatment that care givers
should follow to improve their performance level. Care givers need to perform effective heath
check up before any kind of treatment to increase heath standards of care users.

LO2: Analysis of social and health care services and system to support specific
needs of each individual (brochure)
Q4. Needs of care users such as Mr. Graves along with specific needs
Careful individual planning and assessment focuses on person centred medical treatment
that guides service users to get right medicine against their diseases. According to Phillips
(2016), care plan reduces discrimination issues from the treatment and care users get right
respect and treatment in the care home. For instance, in this case care providers of
Sheltered Home with Care should follow rules and regulation of Care Act 2014 to safeguard
their clients and automatically enhances psychological understanding in between service
providers and service user. Usage of wheel chair has been included by the care users so
that Mr. Graves tremor in hands and other body part can be managed. Additionally, care
providers should keep them confirmed that care users have taken all medicines in right time.
Allen et al. (2019) mentioned that promising approach against loneliness and isolation in
later life will guide service users to tackle their depression and conceal loneliness.
Lean theory is a business methodology that promotes respect for people and continuous
improvement in medical services to decrease the rate of waste in healthcare facilities (Durón
et al. 2019). This theory guides care givers to focus on their task in medical treatment to
modify issues during ongoing system improvement. Another theory that is solid theory of
medical practice is also followed by medical practitioners to decrease the chance of
inaccurate proportion of medicine during treatment and it will decrease the rate of treatment
inefficiencies. Lewis et al. (2017) commented that solid theory deals with modern scientific
techniques that guide the health users to focus on their modern treatment and it reduces
overall time of medical treatment. SEN code of practice is another practice that heath
provider used to follow in order to give special education to providers for improving their
performance in medicinal treatment (Dolezel and Morrison, 2017).
Q5. Explanation of current system for supporting needs of Mr. Graves
Evidence based medicine approach is followed by present service providers so that they
can manage health issues of practitioners in a precise manner. Harrison et al. (2018)
mentioned that clinical trials result should be followed by care providers before giving any
kind of treatment to care users to decrease the chance of adverse effect of medicine in
human body. In this case, staffs of care home provide medicine to the Mr.Graves which is
included in prescription in order to decrease adverse effect of diseases. It has been seen in
the case study that local authority provides financial support in Mr. Graves treatment as he is

fully dependent on his state pension only. Additionally, in the case study, it has been noticed
that government austerity measures in heath service tightened the budget. Therefore, care
providers need to be very much specific in their treatment to decrease amount of
hospitalised waste. Personal development programmes are another important approach
that medical practitioners follow so that they can improve their self management skills based
on medicinal treatment.
Laboratory diagnosis focuses on the physical treatment of care users to understand
physical issues and other health issues of care users. Ozair et al. (2105) opine that
antifungal medications are used by medical practitioners so that they can manage bacterial
and fungal infections in a perfect manner. As per the case study, practitioners can focus on
laboratory diagnosis to treat preliminary health issues of health practitioners and it allows
them to provide right drug against diseases. Voluntary service is another current system
that medicinal organisation follows to provide awareness against common diseases and its
remedies due to which health status of community is declined.
Q6. Evaluation of services in chosen locality with specific needs
In Haringey it has been observed that there are presence of several medicinal services
which are mental health care, elderly home care, drug addiction, vaccination services,
prenatal care, pregnancy cares and other awareness in sexual diseases (Phillips, 2016).
Care homes in Haringey provide effect areas of living so that older people cannot feel
isolated and boring during their old age life. It has been noticed that they follows Community
Care Act 1996’ to establish their rules and regulation during their service. As per the case
scenario, Mr.Graves feels very much isolated in the old age home, therefore, he leave the
place quite often. Problems associated in old age care home are lack of psychological
understanding in between care users and care givers. Additionally, it has been observed that
Mr. Graves suffers in mental heavy issues due to which he cannot return home easily.
Problems associated with home care service providers is mainly poor service quality and
untrained staffs due to which care users does not get right treatment within short time.
Personal health budgets are prepared by the service organisation in order to implement right
medication strategy as per their budget and it reduces the chances of chaotic attitude from
the organisation.
In specified location that is in Haringey, it has been seen that care providers used mental
screening method to detect mental issues in a perfect way. Additionally, in the Haringey
adult mental care services, care users who are suffering from Alzheimer’s disease, autism,
Parkinson’s disease get right treatment to improve their mental health care condition and

status. However, too much treatment cost mitigates its demand among the care users and it
adversely affects their health status.

LO3. Understand approaches and intervention strategies that support individuals with
specific needs.
Q7. Explain the approaches and interventions available to support individuals with
specific needs.
Mr. Graves is suffering from a number of diseases and he is a resident of Sheltered Home
with Care for more than five years. In order to meet his specific needs, the approaches and
interventions available to support are discussed as follows-
Approaches: The approaches include-
1. Shared responsibility- The members of the health care centre should take care of him
by dividing his caring responsibilities. For example, the nurses should remind him to take
medicines in time; the doctors should do regular health checkups. Moreover, the other staffs
should help him to do his daily works, as he is not capable of doing these of his own due to
his physical disabilities.
2. Informed choice- The people outside the care home should be informed about the
disabilities of Mr. Graves so that they can help him finding his home back if he could not
recognise the way to back.
Interventions: The interventions include-
1. Drug therapy- The doctor of the care home taking over his responsibility should prescribe
him liquid medicines for his stomach regarding problems.
2. Physiotherapy- Physiotherapy is also known as physical therapy (PT) is a medical
process to provide mechanical force along with exercise therapy in order to promote mobility
and proper functionality of bones and muscles.
3. Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT)- It is an intervention that helps in curing mental
disabilities. The mental health can be improved of a patient through this therapy after imn
long-term basis (Hetrick et al., 2016).
Q8. Evaluate the effectiveness of intervention strategies used for an individual with
specific need(s).
The effectiveness of approaches and interventions that are mentioned earlier, is discussed
here for the concerned patient in this context as follows-

Efficacy of treatment: The liquid medicines will help him to resolve swallowing problems.
Physiotherapy will help him to resolve physical issues. Moreover, the cognitive behavioural
therapy (CBT) will help Mr. Graves to improve his challenging behaviours by providing a
mental stability. Through this type of long-term therapy, he will be able to find out the ways of
returning back to the care home.
Furthermore, the patient should be provided with an automatic wheelchair associated with
assistive technology so that anyone from the care home can track his location in case he
found lost for a long time (Jabbar et al., 2017).
Q9. Discuss the potential impact of emerging developments on support for
individuals with specific needs.
The potential impact of emerging developments on the support for Mr. Graves is discussed
here as below-
Personal health budgets: The government should be informed about the specific needs of
Mr. Graves so that the government can aid financially the care home by providing automatic
wheelchairs and by reducing the tax on the pharmaceutical products.
Social work reform board: The social work reform board should also be informed about the
specific needs of the patient so that the care home can collaborate with the social workers
helping the patient to recover.
SEN Green paper: Special educational need (SEN) is a policy for young people children
who are disproportionately poor or disabled in order to provide them a fare chance to
succeed in life. This law already exists in England (Norwich and Eaton, 2015).

LO4: Strategies based on coping with challenging behaviour that are associated with
specific needs
Q10. Explanation of different concepts based on challenging behaviour
Challenging behaviour must be controlled by the care providers so that they can improve
their health treatment strategy in an innovative manner. In the case study, it had been
noticed that Mr.Graves son has left him in a home acre as he is very busy with his family and
responsibility. Along with it, it has been seen that Mr.Graves treatment is solely depend on
his pension and this amount is not enough to mitigate all financial factors of his medical
treatments.
There are different domains and concept of challenging attitude due to which care users
often eliminate his heath status and it also adversely affects their mental condition. In the
case study, it has been seen that Mr.Graves often leaves his home care place as he feel
lonely and isolated. Therefore, it can be easily analysed that this communication level with
all staffs of care service organisation is very poor. Furthermore, care providers are least
interested about whether Mr.Graves has swallowed his medicine or not which also
decreases his mental and health status in an adverse way.
Stereotyped persons often show repetitive movements and lack of voluntary control
maximises care users unexpected attitude in front of their people in community
(Mackelprang et al. 2016). In the case study, Mr. Graves shows unexpected attitude such
as he often leave his old age care place without prior notice and local people have to show
him the direction of his old age care home. Therefore, lack of strict rules and ineffective
attitude of old age home staffs eliminates performance level of old age home in UK
community.
