INTRODUCTION
In order to promote health and help societies to live healthy life, organisations deal in health
and social care services offer various services. NHS is considered as one of the healthcare
organisation of UK that provide best services to people for living better life. This assignment will
include use and develop system which promote communication, professional development and
health and safety risk management policies for adult residential care.
TASK 1
1.1
I have observed that communication system is very important to provide appropriate care
for patients in residential care homes. Communications needs of medical professionals associated
with single patient case should be addressed and conversation of practitioners with sick person as
well as their family members to make more accurate decision of medication for their welfare.
1.2
I believe that an effective communication is required in residential adult care which can
be supported by adopting technical devices which provide help to maintain accuracy of specific
information. It consist to apply suitable technological communication systems including Optical
communication system, Duplex communication system and Tactical communication system.
Moreover, more favourable communication system can be applied to make support effective
communication.
1.3
I haver determine number of barriers & challenges to communication are observed in
residential care home including language problem, psychological barrier as phobia, stage fear,
speech disorders & depression, emotional challenges like anger, frustration & humour.
Moreover, it also involves physical barriers consisting faulty equipment, closed cabins & noise
and organisation challenge like misinformation among employees.
1.4
I can overcome barriers of communication in residential care home by applying
appropriate strategies which are mentioned here. However, it consist to adopt technological

communication system for improve accuracy of information, utilise simple words, avoid slang,
active listening, focus on issue, be genuine rather than manipulative and make an eye contact.
1.5
There are several types of means of communication which can be used in residential care
home in order to improve effectiveness and accuracy of information conveyed. It involves
number of means such as internet, telephone, medical reports, diagnosing reports and many
more. Moreover, I prefer to implement more favourable means should be use for improving care
services.
2.1
Effectiveness of communication systems are helpful to me in residential care home in
terms of maintaining records, store data and convey information to desired person. It will
facilitate me to boost up accuracy of information which results into appropriate decision making
regarding medications of specific patient in respect of improving clinical practices.
2.2
The present communication system in adult residential care is electronic information
system in order to make records, maintenance and storage of data secure. However, this system
is helpful to me regarding storage of information and required data can be collected from the
same. It is much effective to store information and gather desired data but it is quite time
consuming process for taking needed information about particular patient.

The improvement of knowledge and practices continuously is an important aspect which
is helpful me to boost up patient outcomes through increasing effectiveness of clinical practices.
However, it also helps me to reduce chance of occurring medication errors which support to
make people healthy as soon as possible.
1.2
The potential barriers to professional development for me as a manager in NHS in adult
residential care home consist problem of staffing and limited budgets. However, appropriate

amounts of funds are required for conducting learning sessions for care staff in respect of
increasing their knowledge level as well as effectiveness in clinical practices. Less number of
staff create a problem to conduct programs of professional development.
1.3
In context of adult residential care home, I prefer to use several sources & systems in
terms of supporting professional development which are given here. It involves certain sessions
related to performance appraisals, induction programs, training coarse and learning session
organised by an organisation for improving knowledge and performing efficiencies.

The factors of selecting opportunities & activities for keeping knowledge & practice up
to date consist, me to determine own strength and weaknesses for improving efficiencies and
abilities to preform well. However, the time versus cost relationship I have considered in order to
maintain updation of knowledge and effectiveness of clinical practices in adult residential care
home.
2.1
In context of adult residential care home, as a manager I required to gain knowledge
about set care standards & benchmarks in order to conduct tasks for gaining desired outcomes.
Meanwhile, it consists me to become person centred care, dignity & respect, consent, safety,
safeguarding from abuse, food & drink, premises & equipment, good governance, duty of
candour, staffing and address feedbacks.
2.2
The prioritise development goals & targets for me to meet expectations of standards
consists number of targets which are given below. Initially, encourage improvement, innovation
& sustainability and deliver an intelligence driven approach to regulation. Moreover, promote a
single shared view of quality and improving efficiencies & effectiveness of staff members for
ensuring better care services to patients in adult residential care home.
3.1
In adult residential care home, learning opportunities to meet development objectives
consist coaching, challenging assignments, self-study, job rotation, community involvement,
special projects, research projects, professional forums, internet workshop training and action

learning. Additionally, as a manager in NHS I need to prefer such programs in order to improve
their performance and patient outcomes. I personally prefer to use online training programs for
improving my knowledge an remain up to date by legal rules regarding health & social care.
3.2
The plan for own professional development consist to determine specific which is
improper time management which is required to be overcome in appropriate manner. I prefer
time management training sessions in order to overcome my threat of skills to improve
efficiencies and performance.
3.3
The process to evaluate effectiveness of plan includes SMART procedure which consist
smart principles such as simple, measurable, achievable, realistic and timed in respect of
attaining better results. It is helpful to me for evaluating effectiveness of prepared plan of action
for ensuring better outcomes of the same.
4.1
Initially, the Gibbs reflective cycle has number of components such as description,
feeling, evaluation, analysis, conclusion and action plan. In contrary to this, Kolbs reflective
style consist several elements including concrete experience, reflective observation, abstract
conceptualisation and active experimentation.
4.2
The reflective practice are important because they facilitate to determine own weaknesses
and threats of performance that are required to be overcome. However, it involves to focus on
issue of working which encourage me as a manager in NHS to work on them in respect of
improving the work procedures & techniques.
4.3
I believe that superior and peers can provide appropriate feedbacks regarding
performance of an individual as they observe them on regular basis. It is necessary for a care
practitioner to focus on view of senior and co-workers in order to boost up their performance for
providing better care facilities in adult residential care home.

1.1
Role of home manager in adult residential care requires to support individuals from
diverse range of cultures and backgrounds. For this purpose, as a manager in NHS, I have
concerned more on developing collaboration among team members who are belong to different
cultures.
1.2
There are many barriers to inclusion and diversity. The greatest ones are culture, religious
beliefs, prejudice and upbringing. Other barriers are such as institutional, personal and structural.
Every age group has different approach to work that may lead to conflict. I have observed that
Equality, inclusion and diversity offers protection from the discrimination such as disability,
gender and race.
1.3
As a home manager impact of legislation on services means good things which promote
good quality of care ensuring that all families, professionals, friends and staff are working
together. I also use to put service user at heart of service provision. For example implication of
confidentiality and staff training and development.
2.1
My role and responsibilities consist to make sure that every staff promote equality,
inclusion and diversity, to all individuals are supported some of ways in that are done by
showing respect and dignity. It is vital, every individual has choice to make own decisions and
every opinion and decision is valued.
2.2
My duty is to ensure quality and discrimination should be eliminated by engaging
individuals using services and their family in shaping the future support. Creating environment
that challenges discrimination and supports equality. Creating awareness bout the importance of
equality which make make easy to challenge discrimination.

Good way to give staff with the information about effects of the discrimination is to make
sure that they regularly attend appropriate diversity, inclusion and equality training. I have to
make sure that staff are aware of procedures which is followed. I have observed that
discrimination can affect individuals emotionally and physically by causing anger and
depression. Inclusion can lead to feeling of acceptance in organization that links to the
satisfaction with organization. When individuals value diversity, they also respect and recognise
the fact that individual are different and these difference are good.
2.4
By ensuring that staff have knowledge, skills and information I can easily identify the
situation in which discrimination is taking place and how to deal with it. Service users can be
provided with details which they can seek and further advice and support regarding
discrimination which will allow them to feel that they have several choice and control on their
lives.
3.1
There are written policies which reflect responsibilities and rights of those who are living
with environment. Polices are made in response to the legislation. I have consider complains to
ensure the changes. These polices make sure that discrimination should not takes place.
3.2
It is essential to evaluate effectiveness of systems as this will change manager to reflect
on the practice, achievements and strengths. It will provide the opportunities to me in order to
collect views of service users, their families and colleagues. Self-evaluation is way to build up
morale of reassures and settings all involved which is working to better quality and effectiveness.
3.3
After evaluating workplace next stage is to decide which action needs to taken to the
address shortfalls and gaps in processes and systems and produce report of the findings. Set out
action plans the things which should be change. I feel that team members has to aware of their
own responsibilities and roles.

4.1
I have often face situations which involving moral dilemmas while working in health and
social care environment. It is important that manager should clear understanding of how each
one differs and their own morals and opinions. Ensure that the environments safeguard
vulnerable people.
4.2
I have observe that service users should able to form informed or advised choices about
services which they receive and most appropriate treatments for themselves. Informed choices
refers to service users are encouraged for the range of option which should be considered, that
they have decision and the share responsibility for results.
4.3
For the service users consent has to be valid, I believe that individual consenting have
capacity to make decision. It should be made voluntarily and decision to the consent to treatment
should be made alone. They have to give detailed information about decision involves and
including risk and benefits.
4.4
This may include carrying out the risk assessments that allow me as a manager of NHS to
undertake the positive risk taking and also safeguarding and protecting them. Positive risk taking
is weighing up potential risks but also benefits which could have and also developing actions and
plans which will reflect positive results for service users.
TASK 4
1.1
I believe that Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 is a main piece of health and safety
legislation. It provides legal framework to encourage and promote high standards at workplace.
The act, first introduced it provided integrated system which was dealing with workplace safety
and health and also protection of public from the work activities
1.2
Organization has clear written procedures and policies that are stored within workplace
and also updated as and required. Polices involve information for the employees in the relation to
