Unit - 1 Introduction of
Health and Social Care

INTRODUCTION
Health and social care is essential for each and every individual so that they can live their
life comfortably. Professionals of health and social care maintain the health of the patients and
give their contribution in the development of individual health and social care. For this report
NHS organisation is chosen that is most famous healthcare organisation of United Kingdom.
This report will discuss about importance of health and social care and also discuss about the
regulatory and professional bodies.
MAIN BODY
1.1How health & social care professionals protect individual in their care
Health & social care professionals play a prominent role for the society and they are directly
influence the living of the people and also give positive impact on people health. There are
various work that professionals do for the better health care of the individuals such as provide
care and protect families in random situation, provide care while individual experience trouble
and conflict in many relationships, individual with the mental disabilities or disorders, provide
care to physically disable people, professionals can promote human development & security to
protect individual, help children and adults with emotional shortcomings (Baldwin, et.al., 2018).
1.2 Mechanism for reporting poor practice in health & social care
Poor practice in health & social care provide much adverse impact on the health and day to
day life of the people. Mostly negligence becomes the main reason for the poor practice and
people will experience laziness, thoughtless, sloppy. When poor practices take place where
professionals and other staff members are not able to provide the good quality of standard care &
support and another reason for poor practices is that when professionals ignore the authority and
rights of the service users or may be deny them. Continuous poor practice occurs the harmful
impact on health and increase the abuse (Glasby, 2017).
2.1 Roles of regulatory bodies that inspect health & social care provision.
Regulatory bodies now comprises as national government related entities that mainly
responsible for enforcement and formulation of laws that can help to protect the rights and safety

of the patients and also aid to set the basic standard for the purpose of genetic testing. The main
role of regulatory bodies is like a safeguard the people with the help of enforcing regulations as
per the statutory framework. They are another role of regulatory bodies such as keeping &
maintaining records of health & social care staff and professional who is really fit to make some
practice le in the United Kingdom. Setting specific standard for the training and education,
dealing with concerned patients, taking corrective actions against who are falsely claim for the
registered professional of health and social Care.
2.2 Identify the professional bodies that regulate the professions within health & social care
There are many professional bodies identified that mainly regulated the professions with
in health and social care such as General medical council ( GMC), Nursing and Midwifery
Council ( NMC), General Dental Council ( GDC), General Optical Council ( GOC), General
Chiropractic Council ( GCC), General Osteopathic Council ( GOcC), General Pharmaceutical
Council ( GPC), Health and care professions Council ( HCPC), the main of all these professional
bodies to protect the health related well-being of all the patients by scrutinizing and also
overseeing all the work of the regulatory bodies that can help to set the trainings and also
conduct the health care professionals.
3.1 explain the roles and responsibilities of inter professional team
There are various roles and responsibilities that need to play professional tem such as -
 Identify the required skills, abilities and knowledge of the professionals
 Create effective engagement with health care professionals and also associated with
resources to evolve the strategies to meet the patients needs for Care.
 Determine the responsibilities of another care providers
 Provide health care to the patients as per safely, timely, effectively and equitably.
 Communicate with the other team members and also prepare treatment plans for the
public health intervention (Kinghorn, 2019).
 Encourage constant professional & inter-professional development for effective team
performance.
3.2 Difference between multidisciplinary & inter professional team working
Multidisciplinary & inter-professional team working are frequently utilize interchangeably
and different as per the degree of interaction & also sharing the responsibilities. On the basis of

patients care, multidisciplinary team working including highest rank of team members who are
mainly physician and each member of this team work independently but in a specific parallel
form .This team maintain the medical record that serves as the primary tools and contain specific
information that need to be share. Inter-professional team working include those members that
totally different professional and come for training together to obtain the specific goals
interdependency. In this type of team working, leadership is contained and all the team members
are engaged with other and also learn from each other. Inter-professional team considers the
collaboration of the people and helps to diverse the prospective related to the unified approach
(Tucker, et. al., 2018).
3.3 Discuss potential barrier to team working
There are many barriers found in the effective team working that can affect the performance of
the team members. Some specific barriers such as dominating team members, lack of
communication, poor manage team disputes and conflicts, lack of decision making, silo thinking,
lack of trust, lack of corporation etc. These barriers can affect the team member’s productivity
and efficiency adversely and provide negative impact on their profession.
