INTRODUCTION
In a society it is very important to have an efficient health and social care so as to
provide with greater assistance to the people. In the recent time, individuals are highly affected
by different diseases which requires special treatment to cure them. Further, it is very crucial for
every person to have a knowledge about diseases so that at the time of emergency they can take
care of themselves and can provide assistance to other individuals (Munn-Giddings and Winter,
2013). In a health care, treatment and medication are provided for the service users so that they
can come up with there diseases as soon as possible. In this report, different case studies are been
studied to determine the services provided in the health care. Further, the laws and regulations
which must be ensured while giving the services are also discussed efficiently.
TASK 1
1.1
To provide with the efficient care and support to the individuals is considered as the core
principle of the health and social care. The principle of support is the main element in health and
social care industry as it it is helpful in welfare of services users and providing them their rights
as well. As per the case of Angela, her illness is increasing but she has made the choice of living
on her own. Jo, who is a support worker of Angela has also tried to make the situation normal by
making Angela and her mother Mary to agree on a common decision (Brett and et.al., 2014).
Here, the principle of support is of extreme importance as Angela needs support in her decision.
In this situation, the health care homes can also help by providing necessary care to the needed
ones. Besides this, it is necessary to keep some of the important points in consideration by health
care providers which are as follows: Choice making and control: It is apparent from the case that Angela wants to live her by
own as she is not happy. Therefore, it is necessary that patient's should be given right to
make their own choice for living in day care homes or anywhere else. Besides this, the
parents of Angela are also old and dependent (Sheldon, 2011). They are also not ready to
allow Angela to live independently. Here, the care provider must make decision by
analysing the health situation of Angela if she is able to live alone. Promoting health: The case shows that Jo, who is care provider of Angela has taken
initiative to support her in decision of living on her own by managing meeting

individually with her and multidisciplinary team. The major work of service provider is
to avail the facilities that can help in promoting health of patient. Thus, Jo has fulfilled
his responsibility in proper manner by providing support. But it should be taken care that
he has noticed more severity in her health recently so her decision should be supported by
taking into consideration about her health (Moule and Hek, 2011). Privacy and self-esteem: It is also the responsibility of care giver to ensure the privacy
and dignity of the patient at care homes so that patient can feel better. They should not
feel that they are dependent on someone because as it will develop the feeling of
humiliation in them.
 Independence: It is necessary that patients should be given enough opportunity to
perform normal and routine activities on their own. Thus, as per the case, Angela should
be given enough space so that she can manage herself (Yohannes and et.al., 2010). But, if
her condition is vulnerable she should taken care more.
1.2
It is the responsibility of care homes to maintain enough care in analysing the risk factors
related to patients. There are many factors that can increase the possibilities of happening any
event that can cause harm for patients and colleagues at workplace as well. Therefore, some
below mentioned measures will help in minimising risks:
 Measuring risk: Here, Jo and his day centre is responsible to make analysis of factors that
can enhance risks related to patient and colleagues at workplace. It is evident that he has
noticed changes in Angela's health which is more challenging which needs more attention
(Dudgeon, Milroy and Walker, 2014). At the same time her decision to live on her own
can increase the risk in her health condition. Therefore great care should be taken by Jo
and his care home.
 Determination of persons who may get harmed: It is also necessary to determine that who
are the persons that may get harm from the conditions of patient. Here, with increased
challenge in Angela's condition requires to pay attention on co-workers of day centre and
other patients residing at centre. Therefore, company should discover the ways by which
these people can get harmed so that measures can be made to protect them.
 Confidentiality: The day centres can instruct the service providers to maintain
confidentiality in their reports of patients so that service users can also trust them.

Besides this, it will also help in maintaining better coordination of care takers with their
patients (Fetters, Curry and Creswell, 2013).
1.3
The person centred approach reflects the idea of giving preference to the client in
supporting and fulfilling his/ her wish. Here, the clients are allowed to make their own decision
by ensuring privacy and dignity as well. This approach helps in ensuring the best care of patients
as per their demand and needs. As per the given case, this kind of approach will help a lot as by
giving personal preference to Angela's needs, she will be more satisfied and happy. Besides this,
she will cooperate more to care providers by establishing better communication between them.
Her confidence will also increase on service providers as she will feel that her demands are being
given importance. This will help in building a confidence level in her. In given case this can be
applied by supporting decision of Angela and also making her ready to be cared in proper way
by service providers. The day centre can arrange for personal conference to establish a better
communication. Here, attempt should be made to make her understand about the care she needs.
This will help in providing proper physical, emotional and psychological care to her (Light,
2010).
1.4
The case shows that Angela has become more challenging and argumentative which
clearly implies that care provider has to face more difficulties in handling her. Such type of
ethical dilemmas are faced by care providers in many cases. The conflict situation has taken
place between Angela and her mother as well because she is feeling that her mother is not
supporting her decision. Such kind of dilemmas may result in carelessness by the patient.
Therefore, it increases the situations where patients become uncooperative which creates a
difficult condition for care takers in handling the service users.
For instance in case of Angela, she has accused her mother that she doesn't want to let
live her life in the way she wants. Moreover, Angela used to go for walks as well with her father
which has also stopped sue to deteriorating health of her father (Mechanic, 2012). Therefore, it is
necessary for service provider to give more attention towards Angela by providing her enough
space so that she can discuss her problems and feelings. This will help in soothing her and also
removing any wrong thoughts from her mind. This situation reflects the ethical dilemma that is

faced by Jo as he cannot force Angela to make any decision or quitting the decision of living
independently.
TASK 2
2.1
The policies, regulations and legislations are necessary to be framed that can help in
uplifting the position of children so that children can be provided with needed care. This can be
done with the help of below given policies and legislations:
Policies
The policy of every child matters is implemented as per the rules of UK (Wallerstein and
Duran, 2010). This policy will help in making norms which can work for making children
healthy and fit. Besides this, it will help in applying rules that can treat children without any bias
and providing all opportunities to live their life. Along with this, the safeguarding policies are
also adopted which takes initiatives to provide children with necessary education and learning.
Further, they are given protection from any kind of physical, emotional and sexual abuses as
well.
Legislations
The major legislation adopted by organisation is Children act 2004, where its main
objective will be set to make plans for children that can be helpful in regulating all policies that
are in best interest of children. Apart from this, another act embraced by organisation is care act
2014, which aims at providing physical, mental and emotional care to the service users (Rigby
and et.al., 2011).
Regulations
The company has adopted the codes of conduct that are made by Care quality
commission. According to this regulation, it will be ensured that all hospitals and care providing
homes are supplying high quality safe services to the users with continuous improvement.
Besides this, codes made by General social care and council have also been adopted to perform
functions in providing education and training to social workers.
2.2
Policies and procedures are developed and implemented to provide guidelines for
companies. Local policies are developed at a smaller scale as per the situations of local

environment while national policies ate framed at a broader level with wider scope of providing
guidelines. Local policies are implemented more specifically as they are related with a particular
area (Lymbery, 2010). Thus, they are studied in deeper way to synchronise it with national
policies. This synchronisation will help in developing the policies in effective way with more
positive outcomes. It is necessary to develop local policies in accordance with national policies
as at local level may organisation use to exist. The national policies cannot be applied for all
types of companies as they can duffer in nature which results in difficulties to apply. Thus, local
policies are framed with mixture of national policies so that both objectives can be met. Apart
from this, it is necessary to take care that policies are not ambiguous as it will create barriers
while implementing. It should be taken care while framing policies that they are enough flexible
so that it can be modified according to dynamic situations so as to meet the current requirements.
Further, it will be easier for service providers to meet the requisites of policies if they are
formulated in easier way without any confusion. It is also necessary to review the policies timely
as it will help in proper implementation of norms (Great Britain, Department of Health, 2012).
Moreover, by proper monitoring of these policies necessary changes can also be made on time.
2.3
The formulation of policies, regulations and codes of conduct help organisation to
perform their roles according to right practices. It is not possible by company to formulate any
policy related with HSC industry without the guidance of legal laws and constitutional
provisions. As per the above mentioned policies that are made for children will help in
safeguarding the rights of children for acquiring their necessary education. Besides this will also
protect them from various unethical practices of society against them. Further, the legislations
enacted by government will help in guiding the organisation to move in right direction with
greater emphasis on care of children and protecting their interest. In addition, the regulations and
codes of conduct formulated by governance, will help in making improvements in the policies
and functions of organisation so that care and services can be provided in more effective way.
This will also assist in providing training and education to develop the efficiency of operations of
HSC venture so that improved services can be provided to children (Lai and et.al., 2012).
Moreover, this should be taken care that with implementation of these policies, regulations and
legislations, well being of children is given priority. Acts like children act 2004 and care act

2014, will help in formulating best plans for children that can give overall development to them.
Besides this, the major objective of safeguarding interests of children will also be fulfilled.
TASK 3
3.1
In health and social care industry, services providers have to handle different kinds of
people. For HSC practices, various relevant theories have been used which helps in handling
different kinds of patients. These theories also help in developing plans so that service users can
be provided with proper care. In this direction various theories are applied like human growth
and development. According to the given case, this theory is relevant which implies that a human
needs different care at the various stages of his life. With increased age and growth, need for care
also changes. Another theory is related with behaviour and stress management. These theories
state that to handle people with different attitudes and behaviours in health and social care
practices is very difficult (Stevens and et.al., 2011). Therefore it is very necessary to manage
people by understanding their behaviour. The theories help in understanding the process to
handle people with different behaviours. Apart from this, for better recovery of patients care
takers use to provide stress free environment by applying stress management theories. As per the
given case, care providers can manage patients as per their requirements and age factors.
Through the application of theories they will come to know different behaviours of patients at
various stages of life. With increased age and growth factor, care providers should manage
services users understanding their needs and attitudes. This will help in creating stress free
environment with less number of problems.
3.2
The social processes has an important role in society where the attitudes and view points
of society affects the perceptions of people. These perceptions have a great impact on behaviour
of people as well. The health and social care services should always understand these social
processes that exist in the diverse society. The HSC services should frame policies that can be
helpful in addressing people with different attitudes and diverse cultures (Lloyd, 2010). For
instance poverty is the most common factor that creates various physical and mental illness in a
person. Thus, because of unemployment, more poverty is generated which results in increased
number of patients who need HSC services. use to manage their health on their own. Besides

this, social exclusion of a person which results due to many kinds of cultural differences is also
one of the main reason that increases the number of people who need care. Some diseases and
any practices like tattooing on body are regarded as unethical in many countries. Such people are
separated from society and this makes the role of HSC services more important. Besides this,
some people who are socially excluded are not provided with needed care and this attitude shows
the inequality existing in society due to cultural differences where one society refers their culture
superior than others. Thus, HSC services should provide their services regardless of such
differences existing in the society (Munn-Giddings and Winter, 2013).
3.3
In health and social care industry, the different professionals of their independent field
use to cooperate each other understanding individual roles so that the service user can be
provided with full care. According to Sheldon, (2011) this entire concept of collaboration with
each other implies inter professional working in health and social care. The services provides by
doctors, physiotherapists, nurses, psychologists or health care assistants are included in this inter
professional working where each professional person is related with their field and contributes in
providing health and social care. All these professionals use to work in the form of a team where
any lack of one professional person will be satisfied by the contribution of other expert. Thus,
this inter professional working helps in providing efficient services to the patients without delay
and with full care. It also helps in building a trustworthy relationship between health care
provider and service user. For instance, a patient who fractured his right leg due to an accident
was given the entire treatment by operating and fixing the rod so that the patient can walk. After
the treatment, patient was not able to move the leg properly and this need was satisfied by a
physiotherapist by providing the regular exercise and practice of moving the leg. Thus, the need
of patient was fulfilled by a doctor and physiotherapist to provide him with proper and complete
care (Yohannes and et.al., 2010).
TASK 4
4.1
As a carer in Care Provider alliance I have a number of responsibilities in organisation.
The CPA is representative body who use to work for providing adult social care to the patients.
This association is mainly based in England and use to provide quality care to service users with

4.2
As per the role of social care worker, various responsibilities were performed by me
which were according to organisation's policies. This can be understood with the help of Gibbs
reflective cycle (Reflective writing: About Gibbs reflective cycle, 2016). The job of health and
social care is very stressful and challenging as well because I had to deal wit various kinds of
people who had different attitudes and behaviours. Therefore, I felt that is is really needed at
workplace to implement policies that can help in managing stress and tackling patients with
different behaviours. This will help in increasing the efficiencies of various care providers by
managing their stress levels. Thus, I helped in applying the stress management theories and
sessions for understanding the behaviours of patients at workplace. Thereby, I analysed the
situations which are the major reasons of stress at workplace. The whole information helped me
in developing plans that can help in reducing stress of people at workplace like giving more short
breaks during work, so that care providers can feel light and manage the patients in more
efficient way. The plan was kept before top management so that the policy can be implemented.
This helped in reducing the level of stress among care providers and I also assured that on
repeating such situations, some other measures like understanding behavioural aspects of people
can be made (Mechanic, 2012).
4.3
For recommendation on my own contribution so as to meet better practices I will apply
Kolb reflective cycle which is based on learning styles that are met. The very first stage here
shows the situations where every aspect is new for me. This is the stage where I will try to
identify newer things and learn from them. The next stage is for observations where the learning
will be based on observing. I will observe the seniors so that I can learn to apply same practices
for same situations. After this, I will be on stage of monitoring the quality of practices that are
being exercised. Here, I will make sure that service providers are in line with the main objective
of organisation to provide proper care to service users. This takes me to further stage where I will
have to take corrective actions wherever necessary. Here effective workshops and training
programmes can also be arranged (Lymbery, 2010). Thus, it will help me in resolving the
situations where care providers are not fulfilling their responsibilities. As a result, the processes
in the organisation will be based on more improved functions. Thus, I will be contributing in
formulation of practices that can help in implementation of good working practices.
