INTRODUCTION
A working relationship in health and social care can be defined as an individual
connection with other people working in health and social care organisations. It is very much
important for staff in health and social care institution to develop understanding that social
relationship can have impact on mental as well as physical health of an individual.
The present report has focus identifying the factors which has direct as well as significant
effect on care relationship.
MAIN BODY
3.1 Identifying the factors which has effect on care relationship
In context of developing good relationship with patients or other staff, an individual is
requiring to demonstrate the respect for person dignity, culture and belief. Social service
provider should not engage in the activities which might have negative effect on emotional as
well as physical health of patient. There are various factors which have direct as well as great
effect on care relationship are:
Communication: effective communication skills is very much important in health and
social care. This factor has great effect on the relationship between service provider and patients.
By using an effective communication skills care provider can assist a person in vulnerable
situations. It also enables service provider to develop strong relationship with patients
(Tourangeau, Saari and Cranley, 2017). In addition to this an effective listening is also important
for building healthy relationship with patients or other staff in health and social care institution.
Cultural factors: This factor also have great impact on the care relationship. As effective
care requires proper partnership between nurses and family members of patient. Cultural factors
include willingness of families to accept telehealth technology, express their degree of burden or
need for help, or seek hospice care at the end of life (Social Relationships and Health: A
Flashpoint for Health Policy, 2011). If in case expectation of service user is violated, this factor
might have negative effect on relationship between patient and service user. But cultural
differences between medical staff and patient have less effect on the care provider. This variables
effect care relationship only in certain situations. Due to difference in cultural values service
users or their family members differ in the trust they place in medical providers and medical

care. In addition to this this, cultural factors also effect decisions to seek treatment or receive
clinical preventive services.
Discrimination: This is the factors which have adverse effect on relationship between
service provider and patient. Difference in the perception about health as a matter of personal
agency and service provider restriction to access information related to culture of patient have
negative effect on care relationship (Vogus, 2018). This factors mainly effect the relationship
between patients belonging to ethnic as well as cultural communities and service providers.
Physiological factors: These factors include preference for care, dignity, trust, comfort and
privacy. If in case, service user fails to fulfil the need of service user and does not meet their
expectation in such case, there is high chances of conflicts between care providers and service
users (Relationships with Service Users, 2018).
CONCLUSION
It has been concluded from the report that cultural, social, communication factors have
direct effect on care relationships. Study also concluded that physiological and communication
factors might have effect on the mental and physical heath of patients.
It is required by service provider to communicate effectively and respect the belief of
service users. There are various strategies have been suggested which can be used by care
provider for building care relationship.
