Mr. Holland’s case study will be evaluated and as per his condition, appropriate outcomes will
be evaluated for improving his health conditions which could help him to live freely and
indecently. Apart from this, unique functionalities of the health and social care centres as well as
their rules and regulations will be covered to make the better understanding of this this
assignment.

health and social care services
Health and social are the primary factors which plays vital role in the human’s daily routine. This
is the reason, government bodies commence the campaigns of promotion of health and social
care services during election periods. In relevance with health and social care services, various
users have changed their perceptive in comparison with the traditional times (Aveyard, 2014). In
traditional times, individual were not much influenced in relation with adopting health and care
services in their daily routine life. Certain factors such as health concept, disability of
individuals, illness and the behavioural issues affect the health conditions of individuals.
Providing them adequate treatment in relation with their issues helps them to live freely as well
as indecently. Only emergency conditions were approached towards the health and social care
centres. After promotion of these services aggressively, audience has changed their perceptive
and now people are much influenced in order to take routine medical check-ups. This also helps
to determine any serious diseases if present and with the help of adequate medicines and
treatment, victim could be prevented. The same scenario is with Mr. Holland Park and their
family members, they needs to be more aware of regarding their health and regular check-up and
for other health related services, they needs to be aware. It is essential for Mr. Holland who is
suffering from dementia which is causing him to forget even daily routine activities. Mr.
Holland’s family members were not able to look after him and apart from dementia, he was
visually challenged as well as his hearing capability was also very less. In order to resolve the
issues of Mr. Holland, health and social care services can play a vital role. Thus, it is very

necessary to admin him over there as he would get better prevention as well as someone will
always be there to look after him. Apart from this, his basic activities such as medicines, food,
etc. will be taken care adequately (Bennett, 2010).
1.2 Assess how perceptions of specific needs have changed over time in care homes
Despite being other factors, change in the perceptions of the people in relevance with the
individual’s specific needs have been noticed. While considering the given case, it was analysed
that Mr. Holland was suffering from dementia and in traditional times, after a certain age, more
than 30% people were affected by this disease which means every third person was feeling the
pain of Mr. Holland and at that time, people’s reaction was quite casual in relevance with the
dementia. But after introduction of health and social care centres and with the help of effective
awareness campaigns, audience has realised that individuals suffering from should be provided
with adequate treatment. In this scenario, Mr. Holland Park is suffering from dementia and along
with this, they are not capable to see and hear. Thus, apart from Mr. Holland, number of
individuals is suffering from various and unique complications along with the dementia (Brett,
et, al., 2014). Such as, some have heart complications, weak immunity systems, etc. It is very
necessary to provide them adequate treatment in certain period of time. Health and social care
centres should also need to take care of certain things such as care takers should be professionals
with appropriate amount of patience. This is because care taker with less patience level will not
be able to treat the patients in appropriate manner and due to this, negative outcomes may be
generated. Health and social care centres need to promote their services aggressively in order to
provide adequate treatment to such patients because they also have the right to be given proper
time and care (Burton, 2010). Factors like stigma, forgetful and discrimination should not be

followed for the person who is suffering from dementia and other types of diseases. This will
demotivate them and it will affect the living of the ill people. Every individual has the right to
live independently as well as freely and this is the main reason above factors should not be
followed adequately.

Legislations, society and culture of a country plays crucial role in conducting any type of
activity. As per this case, health and social care centres needs to fulfil all the legislation
developed by UK government in relation to the health care centres. Following are some of the
acts whose impact over the health and social care services perform their activities in appropriate
manner:
Health and Social Care Act, 2012: This act defines the policies and the methods in accordance
with the smooth performance of the health and social care centres. These should be followed and
implemented in the working procedures of these types of centres. This is necessary in order to
avoid glitches in the smooth performance of these centres as well as it also provides its users an
assurance. Apart from this, health and social care act describes that the appointment of the
employees and workers should also be done in the manner given in the act. Irrelevance
appointment of the candidates could affect the health of the patients and in this scenario, health
and social care centre may face some severe issues.
National Health Service Act, 2006: Under this act, funds are being allocated to the various
service sectors as per the guidelines of the government. Apart from this, another primary activity

of these centres. Strategies adopted by these centres for spreading awareness in the public have
also generated various positive outcomes. As per this scenario, Mr. Holland is the victim which
does not get sufficient help from his family members and health and social centre helps them to
live freely and independently (Coughlan & Cronin, 2016).

Managing specific needs to individuals carries big weight in order to manage the safeguarding
operations. Under this section and as per the case was given, strategies will be adopted through
which they could get adequate treatment in an effective manner. Major disabilities from which
Mr. Holland was suffering were dementia which leads to him to forget various activities which
also relates Mr. Holland with emotional, language, intellectual and spiritual concerns; even he
was not able to manage his own daily routine’s activities. These concerns also affect the Mr.
Holland’s health conditions and this is the major reason which becomes the challenges for the
health services in current UK economy. He was also a patient of lack of eyesight and low
capability to hear. Due to dementia, he used to forget many things and to resolve this issue, his
family members decided to admit him in the health and social care centre under which the
employees of the centre will help him to perform daily routine activities in appropriate manner.
Some of the daily activities which he used to forget mostly are eating on time, address of the
home, reason for going out, etc. Due to dementia, he was not able to manage his daily routine
activities which could indulge himself in severe accidental condition (Dahlgren & Whitehead,
2017). His behaviour was another big issue for his family members because at the old age,
generally, people turn into a violent person and he was one of them and due to busy schedules of
his family members, they were unable to look after him. In this case, they realised his situation
and they admits him in the reputed health and social service centre in order to provide him
effective and advanced treatment which could help him to live freely on the outside of the caring
centre (Glasby, 2017).

People with specific needs should be treated with adequate facilities in order to improve their
lifestyle. In this scenario, Mr. Holland is suffering from various disabilities and their specific
needs are quite different in comparison to the normal people’s needs. Health and social care
centres are being opened in order to support the Mr. Holland’s basic and specific needs (Heslop,
et. al., 2014). Health and social care centres plays crucial role in order to enhance the
performance through rendering adequate and required facilities to the individuals like Mr.
Holland. Following are some of the current systems in regards with the individual’s specific
needs:
Advice and Guidance: The major concern which needs to be followed by health and social care
centres are providing adequate advice and guidance to the people who requires special needs.
Their convincing power should be strong enough so that the individuals and their families could
be convinced in order to admit them in the health and social care centres for improving their
lifestyles as well as to provide the appropriate facilities which they require to live freely and

Availability of the health and social care centres within the certain locality plays crucial role in
improving the standard of living of the people with specific needs. Apart from this, it is also
essential for the fulfilment of the individuals with specific needs. Thus, it is very important to
evaluate the health and social care centres’ availability in the particular area and locality. Health
and social care centres needs to evaluate the major requirements of their locality or area. This
will help them to get the adequate knowledge in relevance with the requirements of the
individuals’ specific needs in the particular area or locality. With the help of the results obtained
from the analysis, health and social care centres would be able to improve and adopt the required
facilities and services in their particular area. This will lead to enhance the goodwill of the

Numbers of pre-defined approaches as well as strategies are available in order to take care for the
individuals in better manner. In this case, multiple diseases and disorders have been faced by the
Mr. Holland and to help them to recover from these multiple disorders, high attention is required
to pay on him. He was not able to perform his daily routine activities due to less vision and
hearing issues. In this case for improving the condition of Mr. Holland, health and social care
centres may use light as well as strict approaches. These approaches may vary as per the
situation of the individuals.
Approaches like direct action, self-help, evidence based, etc. are necessary in terms of health and
social service centres. This provides them appropriate and reasonable resolutions to the patients
through their treatment could be done in an effective manner. Along with this, guardianship and
empowerment is also necessary as these help the organization to provide adequate services with
regards to treat the patients appropriately.
In order to enhance the Mr. Holland’s condition, strict approaches will be used. He is suffering
from various disorders which require high attention as well as effective treatment. His behaviour
was also changing rapidly and in order to reduce the negativity level from his thoughts,

of strict as well as light approaches which affects to generate various neurons in his body with
the help of stimulating senses. Music and sound is also a part of cognitive therapy which is
essential to activate the motor and sensory neurons of Mr. Holland. This will activate the hearing
nerve of Mr. Holland as it is directly connected with the brain. Apart from this, olfactory nerves
are activated by using smell-therapy. In this approach, various smells are being tested as per the
requirements of the individuals (MacDonald, Kreutz & Mitchell, 2013).
3.2 Evaluate the effectiveness of intervention strategies for an individual with specific needs
Intervention strategies are used for improving the eyesight and the effect of this strategy focuses
on long term cure. This strategy helps the Mr. Holland for improving his eyesight’s condition.
Only vision impairment strategy does not help to resolve the eyesight issue but this strategy
helps the individual to get interacted which provides a unique mental strength for dealing with
these types of issues. Along with this strategy, health and social care centres have adopted and
implemented various other operative strategies that will be helpful in order to enhance the
visibility range of Mr. Holland. And for improving the hearing capacity of Mr. Holland, hearing
therapy will be used. In order to reduce the joints pain, gouty arthritis will be implemented and
the updates will be provided on the daily basis. Some specific needs of individuals are live freely
and independently as well as getting all the services which are required for fulfilment of the
patients’ objectives. In fulfilment of the specific needs, health and social care centres needs to
adopt certain intervention strategies for fulfilling the specific needs of individuals.
Mr. Holland is an old personality, hence; implementation of regular strategies and the operations
could decrease the blood counts which could affect his other body parts. Thus, within the regular

should be taken care in an appropriate manner and more attention is required to be paid on
dementia patients in comparison with other patients. This is because it is often noticed that
people suffering from dementia disease are also caught by various other severe diseases. Hence,
they require more attention and care from the employees of the health and the social care centres
otherwise; they might get hurt themselves in lack of attention conditions. According to various
researchers, it has been noticed that dementia patients are hard to handle and to cure the
dementia disease, continues experiments and research are being conducted for enhancing the

this issue, various alternatives has been identified which could challenge to the challenging
behavioural conditions of individuals. From the perception of society, challenging behavioural
conditions are always being seeing as the mental problems and this happens due to lack of
education and awareness in the public. It is often noticed that challenging behavioural conditions
are generally found in the children who are born with certain mental disabilities or by old age
group people who feel alone in the society and left by their own family members. It can be
observed by any unnatural acts done by the individual irrespective of the demand of the situation
such as beating people unnecessarily, highly aggression on petty issues, highly frustration,
violent acts, throwing something on others, etc. All the activities which lead to awkward
situation are known as the sign of challenging behavioural conditions (Quinlan, Bohle & Lamm,
2010).
According to various scholars, doctors, etc. individual needs to be busy in doing something
because it makes them away from frustration as well as negativity. While individuals are left
alone and they are unoccupied, most of the time, challenging behavioural conditions arises. This
is the reason, Mr. Holland showed some unnecessary acts which were described by his son when
his family members were admitting him to the health and social care centre. He was left alone by
his own family members, all were busy in their life schedules and in this case, showing unique

challenging behavioural conditions, these organizations find themselves in tough situations. If
any severe case comes of challenging behaviour than it could also affect other patients of the
care centres and in those situations, health care centre will be held answerable to their family
members. In severe cases of challenging conditions, patients may show some unnecessary acts
such as aggressive behaviour, violent acts, sexual acts in public, etc. In these scenarios, health
care organization generally directs these cases towards the specialised institutes which are built
to resolve these types of cases (Sittig & Singh, 2010).
Adaptation of effective communication processes could also be adopted and implemented in
terms of enhancing the effectiveness of the organization as well as to fulfil the needs of the
persons engaged with these centres.
Health and social care centres are engaged at the small level and in this condition, a small dent in
their goodwill could affect their performances a lot. Hence, it is very crucial for the health and

needs to perform certain strategies under which individuals with challenging behaviour could be
cured in an extreme manner. Challenging behaviour arises when individual suffering from such
situation and wants to convey some messages but he is not able to convey through normal
mediums. In this situations, health and social care institutes needs to identify the root cause of
the challenging behaviour for providing them the most adequate and effective resolution with the
perceptive of resolving the challenging behavioural conditions. The primary tool which could be
used for resolving the challenging behavioural conditions is fulfilment of the demands by
patients. But in against of fulfilling their demands, they should be taken care not to misconduct
or misbehave with any patient or employee of the health care centre (Weissman & Meier, 2011).
Communication barriers, targets achievement and matching up with the standards becomes big
issue for the health and social care centres through which patients are not able to get the proper
treatment.
In the given scenario, Mr. Holland was suffering from severe diseases such as dementia, low
vision as well as less hearing capability. Along with this, he was also struggling with Gouty
arthritis due to his joints were not letting him to sit and walk in an appropriate manner.
Afterwards, he was also caught with the challenging behavioural conditions and it was realised

treatment and effective strategies, organization makes the recovery of Mr. Holland fast which
