INTRODUCTION
Health and social care is term that relates to services which are available from well-being
and societal care workers. It is the generic term utilised to mean to entire of healthcare provision
substructure, public and private sector. It combines elements of sociology, biology, law and
ethics (American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, 2016). Health and social care take
place in nursery, residential home, hospital etc. This case study is based on Fleetwood Hall
Home. It is large care home set in grounds on outskirts of Southport. The home is registered to
give accommodation for up 53 people across three units. This report will explain principles of
support are applied in health and social care practices. It will outline process for protecting
clients and patients form harm. It will analysis benefits of person-centred approach with
healthcare users. Furthermore, report will explain implementation of policies, legislation and
code of practices in health and social care. It will evaluate impact of policy, legislation on
organizational activities.
LO 1
1.1 Principles of support applied in health and social care practices
Principles of support:
The principles have been invented by working with individual with care and support
requirements and social care workers. These values utilize to support manpower improvement by
social care providers as well as supporting good mental well-being and welfare. These mental
illnesses are painful events. These principles support for achieving aim that is better coping
skills. With the help of it, healthcare providers find strength in sharing experience in terms of
cared of individual health and social care. Through these principles, embrace humour as healthy.
Furthermore, principles of support are such as following:
ï‚· Promoting dignity and respect.
ï‚· Maintaining safety and safeguarding duties.
ï‚· There are many principles for support that includes identification of mental and medical
illness and environmental devices (Aveyard, 2014)
ï‚· These principles include healthcare providers see all individual not illness. They do not
digest discrimination and never give up hope in relation to providing health and social
care to individual.

1.2 Procedure for protecting clients, patients and colleagues for harm
The main objective is maintaining and supporting health and keep safe as well as
comfortable to clients, patients, staff and others. Healthcare providers follow process for
protecting clients and colleagues for harm (Brett and et.al., 2014) . In this context, safeguarding
to clients like minimize and prevent risk of harm from any kind of illnesses, abuse, exploitation,
physical and mental health etc. So that, health care provider applies different steps for protecting
harm.
Identify the harm: In addition to that, it is necessary to identify causes of harm to
clients, patients and colleagues in the workplace. For that, they are applied different ways to

1.4 Ethical dilemmas and conflicts to support to users
Ethical dilemmas and conflicts:
Ethics are function word standards that are utilized by members of profession and group
to identify right course of activity in conditions. It is to create differentiation among value,
ethics, morale, laws and policies which includes in ethical dilemmas. In this context, maintain
policies and regulations of organization includes in ethics. But sometime, these policies are not
implemented in the workplaces, so that these conditions are created ethical dilemma. On other
side, some of culture, beliefs and opinion among care staff and clients. These situations are
arising conflicts (Healy and Reynolds, 2018). In this context, if care workers is not able to
implement policies, so that this effect services users. Therefore, care workers must have followed
all ethics, value, laws and policies for providing the best health and social care services.
In addition to that, it is necessary to allocation of scare resources such as financial and
human resources. Care providers also make sure that giving the appropriate guidance and
instruction to their colleagues for providing health and social care services to patients. In case of
Mrs. Z, she has mild learning disabilities who live in Fleetwood home and there was no
provision for her support. Home staff are instructed by her medical specialist on regularly carry
out search on her every time. After, she has returned that being out unsupervised. She is
increasingly irritated at having to support the intrusion of personal search every time. For
previous experience, healthcare workers improve ethics in the workplace. They face ethical
dilemmas such as ineffective work by employee, conflicts etc. She comes back at home and their
family has complained against manager and staff of home. This issue arise conflicts and ethical
dilemma that effect on well-being of services users in the workplace.

2.1 Policies legislation, regulation and code of practices
Legislation of health and social care
Care Act, 2014: It is act of Parliament of UK that aim was to overhaul existing 60 years
old legislation relating social care in England. This act was applied following substantial public
consultation but was evaluator for some of funding reforms involved within the act. The major

changes are local council have duty to promote healthcare. It supports from regulated provider
that has been managed by council (Manners, 2017).
Equality act 2010: It is the act of Parliament of UK that purpose is to codify complicated
and numerous arrangement of acts and legislation which made basis of anti-discrimination law. It
includes Equal Pay Act, 1970, Race Relation Act, 1976, Disability Discrimination Act 1975.
And so on. This act needs equal treatment is access to employment, private and public services.
Regulation of health and social care
Care Quality Commission (CQC): There are different standards includes in CQC such
as person centred care, dignity and respect, consent, safety, safeguarding form abuse and
complaints in terms of health and social care. This helps in inspection and improves health and

as Health and Social Care Act 2008, Mental Capacity Act 2005 and regulations of CQC as well
as adopting all code of practices for improving health and social care to people in my workplace.
I will ensure that all people comfortably living in healthcare home.
2.2 Local policies and procedure with national and policy requirements
Health and social care providers implement national policies and procedures which can
be helped in local level in the health and social care. Such as:
Care Act, 2014: The healthcare providers implement national policies and procedure at
local level. This policy lead multi-agency for local adult safeguarding, make inquires and support
to meet needs. It is necessary to develop and establish safeguarding adult boards that involves

localized government, national health services and apply joint safeguarding strategy for health

Mental Capacity Act, 2005: The legal framework given by Mental Capacity Act 2005 is
helped by this code practices that give guidelines and data about activity and practices in act.

legal responsibility and make decisions for lack of capacity (van Exel and et.al., 2015). With the

and provided the high standard health and social care services to patients and colleagues in the

organization. By this, they provide better treatment and high standards services to patients.

4.1 Role and responsibilities of working in health and social care workplace
There are certain roles and responsibilities that are required to be followed in health and
social care workplace. Some of them are described in detail below:
Cooperate with service users: It is the duty of the employer and different service
providers to provide the best quality services to all the service users. Along with this, all the
service users must be treated equally by the people who are providing services to them (Aveyard,
2014).
Code of practices: It is responsibility to follow all code of practices to provide the best
quality services to all services users by employee and employer. With the help of it, I improve
my performance and productivity of my core workers and employers in the health and social care
workplace. By this way, me and my employees easily handle and solve problems of patients.
Facing challenges: It is duty to face challenges by me and my employees and services
providers for effective working. With the help of it, I will not face any kind of conflict in the
workplace. By this way, they give the best standard treatment to patients. Through it, I will
improve my work practices and performance in health and social care workplace (Drummond
and et.al., 2015).
Implement policy and regulation: It is necessary and responsibility to implement all
policy and regulation in the workplace. By this way, I will not face any kind of legal issues arise

2018). Therefore, I and my core employees are responsible to take care and fulfil needs to
patients. With the help of it, they play their role effectively in the workplace.
4.2 Implementation of health and social care organizational policy
There are many steps in implement and develop organizational policy in health and social
care. Such as:
Consultation: It is necessary to implement and develop policy of health and social care
in organization (Glasby and Dickinson, 2014). I am working in National healthcare services
(NHS) so that I will consult with stakeholder which includes safety representatives and
contractors etc. for improving standards of policy of health and social care organization.
Adapt policy: It is needed to adapt policy which is considered by consultant in the
workplace. With the help of it, I and my employees make sure that improve practices and
performance in the workplace. Therefore, organization makes sure that adapt appropriate policy
in relation to give better health care services to patients. By this way, implement organization
policy by NHS.
Define obligation: It is necessary to me to define obligation in the workplace. In this
context, I am defined all obligations for improving my performance and practices in the
workplace. By this way, improve policy and procedure of organization. Workers are also applied

It is requirement to develop good practices for providing the best quality health and social
care services to patients. In order to that, I will follow different policies and regulations for
