Illustration 2: Counts of self-employed adults with mental illness, by age group and sex, UK
2012 to 2017

The above illustrates number of counts of self-employed people who have mental health
issues. It shows that in year 2017 at age group of 35 to 54 had more number of mental health
problems and in 2013 there were minimum. In comparison to female the ratio is 50:44 means
25:22. The graph clearly illustrates that from 2012 to 2017 there has been a relevant change or
growth in number of count related with mental health. This also implies that this factor has to be
controlled before it goes on a rapid increase.
WHO supports governments within promoting as well as strengthening mental health of
individuals. For this, they support children (through child & development programs, skills
building program, etc), empowerment of women in socio-economic context (by improvising
access to education as well as micro credit schemes), support for elderly populations (through
day and community centres, befriending initiatives, etc.), programs that target indigeneous
people, minorities, migrants and individuals who are impacted by disasters and conflicts and
mental health promotional activities (Golightley and Goemans, 2020). These are some initiatives
which are being taken by WHO to aid people around the country to have stable mental health.
Due to the Covid-19, conditions of around 80% young people who have mental ill health have
been worsened. The survey was conducted in March in which as per 83% people the condition
was worse, 32% felt it is much worse and approximately 51% said it was a bit worse (UK poll
finds young people's mental health hit by coronavirus, 2020). This clearly illustrates that Covid-
19 had strongly hit the mental health of individuals. But this can be reduced by making use of
social media as it provides a medium to communicate with friends that will minimize anxiety.
Conclusion
From above it can be concluded that, health implies overall wellness of an individual. It has
a strong impact on the ways individual behaves with other and feel while doing their regular
activities. Mental health denotes psychological well-being of individuals. This factor is
continuously growing but different organizations are taking relevant steps for minimizing it.
