1Running head: POLICIES AND STRATEGIES TO CONTROL OVERWEIGHT
Obesity has been stated to be a significant public health issue in the United Kingdom
since it is affecting a large number of people in that country. Statistical analysis shows that more
than 60% of the people in the UK are affected by obesity each year, starting from 2014 (Smith
and Smith 2016). This condition makes people suffer from an overweight condition associated
with an increase in the basal metabolic index (BMI).
Various healthcare organisations have been opened in the United Kingdom to tackle the
condition of obesity among the population of the United Kingdom. These healthcare
organisations depend on multiple policies which have been derived with the association of
various relevant works of literature. These policies aid in providing objectives and every kind of
support to these organisations to establish their proper functioning. Some of the policies are
named as Change4life programme, the UK Government's childhood obesity strategy and A fitter
future for all strategy. These policies were selected for this study since all of these three services
are national health policies devised to control the condition of overweight among the people of
the United Kingdom (Drummond 2018). Change4life policy can be supported by a research
study (Drummond, 2018). UK Government’s childhood obesity strategy was devised after
generating its primary structure from a research article (Drummond, 2018). A fitter future was
established by relating it to relevant literature (Keats and Wiggins 2019).
On a concluding note, it can be stated that the health policies work by providing backups
to the healthcare organisations and improving the health condition of the associated population.
