Background
The purpose of the assignment is to compare the Wellness Centre of the Grand Canyon
University with a community health program. The chosen community health program for the
paper is the community health program provided by the Visiting Nurse Service of New York
(VNSNY). The following paper will provide a brief idea about the strength of the each program,
challenges they that they face while providing service, types of evidenced based practice
provided by the program and contribution of the each program in mental health service.
The way in which the programs evaluate their strength
Wellness is the most important part of the campus of Grand Canyon University (GCU).
The accreditation for the nursing practice in GCU is provided by the Commission on Collegiate
Nursing Education. The expert health professional in the campus provides effective health and
wellness service to the students, staffs and the faculty of the college. The college offers effective
medical treatment and an educational resource to the individual belongs to the college. The main
strength of the service provided by the health and wellness center of the college is the equal
access to the resource of the centre for all. It provides access to the illness diagnosis and
treatment, laboratory testing, EKG testing, medication at low cost, free medication,
immunization and radiology. The program provides effective management related to registration
form of the patient, medical release and also use privacy practice to make the medical history of
the patient confidential (Grand Canyon University student Resource, 2018).
On the other hand the VNSNY one of the not-for-profit organization in New York,
founded by the nursing pioneer Lillion D. Wald provides effective care service to the population
in an effective manner. The main strength of the community health program provided by the

VNSNY is that it provides community based special support to the people with need with
innovation. It provides effective service to the infants and the children that suffer from
development issue and also provides medical support to the high risk families. The community
health program provided by the VNSNY also target to provide medical service to the
neighborhoods of New York (VNSNY community programs, 2018).
Thus, it can be said that both the program provide effective health service to the target
population and they evaluate their strength in an effective manner to meet the requirements of
the people and achieve expected outcomes.
Challenges faced by the each entity
Like other community health care centre the health and wellness centre of the GCU and
community health program provided by the VNSNY face critical challenges while providing
service to the target people. One of such critical problems is the fiscal problem or the problem
related to fund. In order to provide effective service and meet the requirements of the people it is
important to have adequate fund in the organization. Thus, limited financial resource could
restrict the organizations from providing adequate service to the people with need (Cole et al.,
2014). Another challenge faced by the both entity is the staffing challenge. There are a few
doctors or medical students that show courage to join the position of the retiring physicians in the
community health centre. The main issue is the pay. The community health centers could not
afford resources to provide huge salary to the staffs thus suffer from scarcity of staffs (Kruse et
al., 2016). Such problems could create obstacle in the way of providing effective service.

Evidenced-based practice used by the each entity
Effective evidence-based practice is used by the both entity in order to provide effective
care to the people with need. The health and wellness centre of the GCU provides evidence-
based care in case of communicable disease such as influenza. The community program provides
effective vaccination program in order to prevent influenza in an effective manner. It also
provides important information in order to create awareness within the student and the staffs.
Treatment also provided by the health and wellness centre to cure the illness (Grand Canyon
University student Resource, 2018). According to the evidence-based practice such effort is
important to fight against influenza in an effective manner (Schwartz et al., 2013). In case of the
community health program provided by the VNSNY, evidence-based hospice and palliative care
is provided by the service providers. They provided effective evidence-based end life care to the
old aged (VNSNY community programs, 2018). Do Not Resuscitate or DNR is also provided by
the organization. The process tells the health professionals not to provide chest compression to
the patient if heart stops functioning (Silvennoinen et al., 2014).
Mental health service provided by the each program
The time period in the college is a stage of continuous change of mind and experience
thus the health and wellness centre of the GCU provides effective support for mental health care
of the students. The students are provided with spiritual life that helps them to reduce stress and
concentrate on future. The health service provides effective care during depression, anxiety and
stress. Relationship concerns are also provided to the students. Such effort helps the students to
maintain their well-being and improve mental health (Grand Canyon University student
Resource, 2018). The community mental health program provided by the VNSNY is not limited
to students. They provided effective mental health service to the population of New York and the
