Discussion Board Post
AI Summary
This discussion post examines the practice barriers faced by Advanced Practice Nurses (APNs) in Kentucky and Nevada, analyzing the state and national levels. It identifies the collaborative agreement requirement in Kentucky as a significant barrier, restricting APNs' ability to prescribe medications without physician oversight for a minimum of four years. The post also explores competition from Physician Assistants (PAs) and physicians, which impacts APNs' independent practice capabilities. Furthermore, it discusses the influence of interest groups, such as the Kentucky Association Nurse Midwives and Nurse Practitioners, and methods used to affect policy changes through state legislation and executive branches. Peer response to “Kentucky-Kaitlyn”
According to me, one of the most significant barriers associated with the practice of
APNs in Kentucky. This barrier is the collaborative agreement for the APRNs while
prescribing non-scheduled drugs (CAPA-NS). They must consult the physician for a
minimum of four years (Kentucky Legislature, 2018) in order to prescribe a drug. After the
completion of four years, they can attempt to be eligible without the CAPA-NS. This barrier
prevents most of the nurses to provide proper treatment to the patients and the barriers also
prevent the nurse practitioners who are at practice. The patients are prevented from getting
the benefits from the competition by the requirement of the APNs in having a contractual
prescriptive authority agreement with the physicians in Kentucky. The Kentucky Association
Nurse Midwives and Nurse Practitioners have been observed as a state-oriented interest
group. This group has been found to provide high quality, compassionate and accessible care
to Kentuckians. The American Association of Nurse Practitioners has been observed to
operate at the national and state level. This group includes who lives in Washington, D.C.
having the support to advocate the policy creation which will benefit the nurse practitioners.
These parts were clearly described in the discussion posted under the topic. According to the
readings and the online lessons of this week, it can be learned that there exists a different
scenario that exists outside the house and senate floors.
Peer Response to “Nevada”
Nevada is a place where nurse practitioners must meet all the requirements, which are
listed by the Board of Nursing in Nevada. At a national level, there are states with restrictions
on which APRNs can do and practice. These policies differ among the company in which the
APRNs are working and the corporation sets these regulations forth. At the national levels,
there are PAs who compete with APRN’s in various fields. The physicians compete with

APRN’s for the ability to practice independently. There are different states with different
laws, which impede full practice for the nurse. According to me, there are various agencies at
the federal and state levels, which regulates the APRNs practice. The governor is the head of
the state level and is unique in processing the laws and regulations for healthcare. Various
methods have been devised to influence the change in policy in terms of competition,
executive branches of government and state legislation. After reading the peer, I can say that
there are various nurse groups that influence the APRN policies. These policies differ among
the company in which the APRNs are working and the corporation sets these regulations
forth. APRNs form sections of groups that are involved in the process of making law
decisions that regulate the practice. An idea is to be presented and a plan is also to be
implemented in order to influence the change in policy forms. These are the peer responses
that can be stated for the chosen topic.
