INTRODUCTION
Health is one of the main factor which should be considered by each and every individual
so as to live daily life in an effective manner. It is very necessary to develop a proper healthcare
environment so that people can remain healthy. Healthcare is termed as the improvement or
maintenance of health via treatment, prevention and diagnosis of disease, injury, illness and other
mental and physical impairments which are there in human beings (Anshari and Almunawar,
2012). This report is based on the topic of Healthcare environment related with case study of
BEAT (Beating Eating Disorders), it is a national registered company and charity which provide
help to those people who are affected or suffering from eating disorders. In this report mission,
vision, organisational structure and stakeholders of BEAT will be discussed. Environmental
analysis will also be conducted and which will be based on PESTLE analysis as well as different
recommendations for the management of expansion will be made in this report.

1. Stakeholders, mission, vision and corporate governance of BEAT
BEAT is is one of the leading charity of UK who give their support to those people
affected by various eating disorders and are doing campaigns on their behalf. The charity was
founded in the year 1989 as the name called Eating Disorders Association and celebrated their
25th anniversary in the year 2014.
In the year 1989 two charities called 'Anorexic Aid' and 'Anorexic Family Aid' got
merged together in order to form 'Eating Disorders Association' (EDA). With the continuous
growth and development, third charity which is called 'The Society for the Advancement into the
Research of Anorexia' (SARA) also joined EDA. The charity than make adoption of working
name called BEAT in the year 2007. Currently BEAT is providing conferences and training,
helpline services, online support and help finder directory. The charity which is being discussed
is formed to provide help to people with bulimia, emotional overeating, anorexia nervosa, binge
and other eating disorders and also give information to general public in regards with such
conditions (Glandon,Slovensky and Smaltz, 2013).
This charity provides various support services which are as follows:

Helplines: Two national helplines are being operated, one is for young people under 25
and another is for adults. Both email and telephone services are available.
Support groups: Network of support group is being operated by charity in UK which is
led by trained volunteer of BEAT (Hoffmann, Bennett and Del Mar, 2013).
Online Services: Website of charity includes help-finder directory, online chat facility,
message boards and young persons section.

Corporate Governance: The BEAT charity is being governed by board of trustees who
are there for making determination regarding charity's strategic direction and is also
administrated by staff team which is led by Chief Executive who execute the strategy and make
dealing with day to day activities of an organisation. The board give approval regarding risk
maps, budgets and business plans and make administration in charity within such parameters and
the decision which is made is agreed board meetings, governance and finance subcommittee.
These committees are sub-committee of main board and their responsibility is to make review of
financial reports, controls finance, register risk and make progress for objectives in order to make
business plans. It has also responsibility to compile and maintain governance manual in which
there is a inclusion of charity's written policies on different areas like complaints handling, risk
management, conflicts in management of volunteers and vulnerable beneficiaries. Committee
also make review of banking mandates and financial controls of charity (Dancer, 2011).
Stakeholders: Beneficiaries of BEATS include 1.6 million of people in UK who are
having eating disorders and mental illness. Charity also has other wide range of stakeholders
which includes trustees, local authorities, employees, members of BEAT, founder and president
of charity, volunteers, social services, government, social services and corporate volunteers.

Eating disorders are very serious mental illness and makes inclusion of bulimia nervosa,
binge eating disorders and anorexia. Around 1.6 million women and men of all background and
age are affected by the disorders of eating. Eating disorders are having high morality rate
regarding mental illness. One in five who are affected most seriously will die. Eating disorders
are considered as treatable condition and it is possible to recover it fully. As soon as someone
gets the treatment, they will get full recovery very sooner (Glandon,Slovensky and Smaltz,
2013). BEAT is concerned about hearing the experience of various people in country who are
waiting for their treatment. Campaigns which are established by BEAT is to increase funding
and to give better treatment to people who are having eating disorders. People of each age,
gender, backgrounds and ethnic groups can also get affected by the eating disorders.
2. Organisational structure of BEAT
Organisational structure can be defined as the system which contains implicit as well as
explicit institutional policies and rules which are designed to outline how different
responsibilities and work roles are coordinated, controlled and delegated. Organisational
structure describes how the flow of information from level to level is made in a company. The
typically hierarchical arrangement of communications, lines of authority, duties and rights of an
organisation. The structure of an organisation describes how to determine different type of power
in an organisation. A structure of charity i.e. BEAT is dependent on the organisation's strategy
and objectives. In centralized structure, top level of management has mainly the power of
decision making and make strong control on the divisions and department. In decentralized
structure, the power of decision making is distinguished and divisions and departments have
different independence degree (Anshari and Almunawar, 2012).
The charity like BEAT which exists to provide care to people and to reduce their eating
disorders, may organise their structure so that each division and group is responsible for their
own functions and activities. Organisation chart of the charity defines the overall structure of a
charity. There are various types of organisational structure which are defined in order to meet
organisational needs which make different operations. Organisation structure can be functional,
divisional, matrix and geographical. A divisional structure is beneficial when there are different
business units in an organisation, geographical structure gives hierarchy of organisation which
are operating in various locations internationally and nationally. A functional type of
organisation structure is on the basis of job duties. A matrix structure have two or more than two

supervisors for every job and is very complicated but is needed for large organisations with
functional areas and different locations.
Organisational structure of BEAT consists of various members and trustees. They have
Board of Trustees who meets for quarterly meeting and are responsible for various strategic
policies and decisions of the charity. Board of trustees of BEAT ' s takes several responsibilities
regarding the decisions at the different levels:
Matters which are in relation with policy and strategies that are made in an
organisation.
Matters which are having potential to give impact to reputation of BEAT.
Different matters which are exceeding the financial authority limits defined by chief
executive (Yoder-Wise, 2014).
At current the Board of Trustees of BEAT has eight members which are from different
types of personal experience and professional background related to the operations of the charity.
The company secretary of charity is also a part of Board but do not have any kind of voting
rights.
There is also one subcommittee which is called the Audit Committee and is chaired with
the help of Treasurer and organise a meeting at least once in a year. Audit committee is defined
as the operating committee consists of board of directors and is charged with the oversight of
financial disclosure and meetings. Members of the committee are derived from the members
which are there in charity's board of directors, with a chairperson which is selected among the
members of committee. The main responsibility of this audit committee is to consider the
delegated responsibility on behalf of board of trustees so as to make sure that framework is there
for accountability purpose (Melnyk and Fineout-Overholt, 2011). The committee make several
reviews and examine all processes, systems and controls that exist for the purpose of addressing
risk in each and every business area of business and also makes sure that charity is complying
with each and every aspects of good practise, regulations and laws.
A scheme of delegation is at the place and day to day responsibilities regarding the
provision of services rests with Chief Executive with executive team. The executive of the
charity have various responsibility for the continuous and daily management of operations and
also for the individual supervision of staff team of BEAT. They also have responsibility to make

identifying external as well as internal elements, which will affect performance of organisation.
The analysis is done to analyse the threat level or opportunity factors which are present. These
types of evaluations are than translated for the process of decision making. The analysis assist in
aligning strategies with the environment of firm. BEAT was given a £100,000 in order to make
expansion of their services so as to give home befriend-er services. Charity can expand its
services by doing proper environmental analysis so as to analyse the expansion's viability
(Weller, Boyd and Cumin, 2014).
There is a continuous change in market which is being faced by any charity or
organisation who wants to expand their services. Various new things are developed over time
and the whole scene can get changed in few seconds. There are various factors which are above
control. Charity get largely influenced with their environment. All situational factors describes
daily circumstances which impact organisation. So, charities should make constant analysis
regarding the market and trade environment. There are various strategic analysis tools which can
be used by charity for analysing environment. The most used detailed analysis which is used for
analysing environment is called PESTLE analysis. This is termed as the bird eye view for the
business which is being conducted. Strategy builders and managers make use of such analysis in
order to find the market position of the charity. It also assist in seeing where the organisation will
be in future. PESTLE contains various factors which are affecting the environment of a business.
These factors influence each and every industry indirectly or directly.
Political factors: Every country has their own policies and rules, that every organisation
has to follow in an appropriate manner. It may comprises taxation procedures, policies
related to social welfare, government stability and so forth. Charitable firms provide
development administrations in nation (Kemis and et. al., 2012).
Economical factors: It consists interest rates, living cost, trends related to
unemployment, supply of money, business cycles and so on, these all can influence
charitable enterprise. For instance, if there is any reduction in people's income then it may

stores where each and every member and local authority who are member of charity can make
use of their services. Unlike relocation, expansion of business is termed as opening of different
new stores in various locations while maintaining the current locations of business. BEAT can
maintain their expansion by considering various factors which are like by providing effective
services regarding eating disorders in expanded markets, they can also make introduction of new
service and product which will be helpful for the service takers (Yang and et. al., 2014).
Expansion of a market can also be done by moving in new geography or by developing new
segments of market. Charity can make a chain of their organisation in different areas so that their

customers and members can reach anywhere anytime. Strategic alliance and global reach of the
business will also helps in maintaining expansion of business in a market.
Each and every business wants to make growth of their business, yet it is also very
important that business should maintain its expansion. Growth of the charity requires strong
demand in the marketplace, effective services and products, right intellectual capital and careful
strategic partnerships. Beyond such fundamentals, there is also a requirement of sustainable
growth , strong foundations of operation so as to minimize the risks in business (Zhou and
Baptista Nunes, 2013).
BEAT is a good charity which have value propositions and strong offering of services.
They are expanding their growth in market in order to serve their members and customers. To
have proper maintenance of the expansion, they must practice various things which will help in
managing the growth and development of charity in new locations.
The director of the charity is aware that there can be expansion of business revenues from
existing locations but there is some lack of top talent, operational efficiencies are not sufficient
and the leadership is that proper which is afraid to face growth. This cause slow down of growth
and there will be difficult situation to serve client regularly. In order to maintain the expansion,
workplace culture must be designed in a way which will help to retain employees, right teams
must be build so as to maximize productivity and there must be a formation of external
partnerships so as to make proper strategic decisions in order to make large organisation.
It is suggested that if a charity cannot handle the expansion of business in many locations
then they must appoint someone to whom they can handover so that there will be proper sustain
and growth of business (Pretty and et. al., 2012). Expansion of a business can be managed by
other ways also, which can be defined as follows: Top Talent: A business cannot make proper growth until and unless there are right and
appropriate people. Business is all in association with right people and without them they
can't be mature and developed. BEAT can also refresh their talent pool so as to support
the business model and needs of clients. Operational efficiencies: Efficiencies embed a mindset and drive cost in the organisation
culture which people sensitive in regards with cost and provides ways for connection,
operation and communication in organisation for opportunities. This assist in assuring
that activities which are there in an organisation are aligned with the needs of business

which will manage expansion and growth. The best way through which operational
efficiencies can be ensured is to analyse that culture of an organisation supports the tool

right clients. In today's scenario, entrepreneurs are not just a term for business. An
entrepreneurial attitude should be embraced for seizing and seeing right opportunities.
That is why entrepreneurial spirit should be embraced while prospecting clients so as to
make sure that business not grow but also sustains. Generation of sales are also in relation
with it, if operations are made with such clients who are not having sustainable business
needs then the expansion cannot get managed.
Strong decision making: Problem solving is the main essence which must be done by
leaders. As a leader, the main goal is to reduce problems which means an organisation
must be courageous to tackle such things. If there will sound decision making process
than a business can maintain expansion in an effective manner. Proper decision making is
the matter which is in regards with the good judgement and is also a ability for
identifying good depth and timing and it is used to make sure that momentum is not
disturbed rather it is created (Davies and et.al., 2011).

It is very necessary to create a health care environment so that people will be able to
remain safe and healthy. Health care environment is defined as the improvement and
maintenance of health which is being done by diagnosing the several illness so that people can
remain healthy. From the above report it can be concluded that BEAT organisation which is a
charity known for beating eating disorders operates and helps people to solve their problems
regarding eating habits. Corporate governance, mission and vision of BEAT is very helpful in
maintaining the proper environment which is healthy for people. It can also be concluded that
charity can expand their business by making proper environmental analysis.
