INTRODUCTION
In this case study the reflection model being used is Gibbs reflection model which is
useful to plan a better health care management to meet the need of service care user. It makes a
analyst think or analyse clearly and systematically about their experience what he has
experienced by the given task. It helps to make learning strategies and make a person understand
their own thinking.
MAIN BODY
Gibbs model of reflection
From the given case study, I analysed that there are four family members in Mrs. E's
family suffering from various kinds of diseases such as glaucoma, dementia, arthritis and hearing
disorder. Mrs. E's husband is a victim is dementia, arthritis as well hearing disorder where as
Mrs. E is also a dementia patient. For meeting the needs of service users I have selected Gibbs
reflection model which helped me out to make health care plan for all the family members. Gibbs
reflection model is one of the famous model used for the patient health care management (Wu
and et. al., 2020). It includes six stages- description of the experience of the given case study,
feelings and thoughts about the experience, evaluation of the experience, analysis to make the
sense of the situation, conclusion what have learnt and action plan how to deal with the similar
situation in the future.
Description
In the given case study Mrs. e and her husband lost their daughter suffering from breast
cancer. Mrs E’s husband was suffering with arthritis and was walking with the help of walking
stick. He was also suffering from hearing disorder and so wore a hearing aid. He has been a
victim of dementia. With the time he deteriorated and began to forget to putting his hearing aid
and sometimes he also forgot to go with his walking stick and thus met with an accident. Her son
advised her many times that his father needs a care centre so he would get all the facilities and
care but Mrs. E wanted to take care of her husband by herself only. She always looked
after him by taking care of all of his medicines and health care facilities.
very soon, Mrs E also diagnosed with vascular dementia. Her son noticed that she was getting
confused that where she kept the things. Mrs E was also a glaucoma suffering patient and thus
need to place eye drops in her eyes every night and a heart

condition which means she needed to take medication on a regular basis. Her son noticed that she
was doing such things since a long term and thus her health was being deteriorated. Usually, in
this case patient need both pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions.
Pharmacological interventions include use of medicines where as non-pharmacological
intervention includes daily exercise and taking healthy diet. I really think that the family needs a
care taker because all of them are suffering a lot. Nobody is there to take care of their medicines
(Snippe, 2021). A nurse should also be there for the daily check-up. Mrs. E and her husband both
were suffering from dementia and used to miss their medicines. Glaucoma is an eye disorder
where the intraocular pressure increases and patients feels difficulty in vision. In this case
physostigmine can be administered topical. In case of arthritis the joint pain can be reduced by
the administration of non- steroidal anti- inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen. As Mrs. E and
her husband both are suffering from dementia they need to take cholinesterase inhibitors such as
donepezil and revastigmine. Both of them should do daily exercise to maintain their physical and
mental health. As Mrs. E was suffering from heart disorder too she needs to avoid all the fatty
substances and eat healthy food.
Feelings
I was feeling sympathetic because Mrs. E was alone and it was being very difficult for
her to manage all the things at one time. She was also suffering from dementia. I think it is a very
serious matter and need to be handled carefully. Her son needs to pay attention of his parent’s
health condition and he should make sure that his parents are going for a weekly health check-up.
As his mother is a dementia patient, he should appoint a maid to help her mother in daily
activities. Mrs. E was suffering from glaucoma and it is not a severe disease. It can be treated
with the administration of the drug called physostigmine. But actually she is patient of dementia
too so she always forgets to take her medicines on time. That is why she needs a care taker or
nurse to make her remind about all her medicines. Her husband is patient of arthritis and always
suffers from joint pain. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen can be
administered in such case. Both of them need to consult a health care professional and need to
take medicines as per instructions. Losing her daughter because of cancer also broken her down .
She also needs to go to a psychologist to improve her mental health. It is very difficult to deal
with such situation if only a single person is there to handle the things. That is why a person
starts suffering mentally. In this case Mrs. E is very strong lady (Kosciejew, 2020). Although she

is also suffering from dementia but still she is not giving up and ready to take care of her
husband and family. She is totally dedicated towards her family. Even her son told her to send
husband to care centre but she did not do such. She took care of her husband instead of sending
him to care centre (Huang and et. al., 2021).
Evaluation
Going through a case study to make a health care plan and working in a team to achieve
the goals was a totally different experience. Each group member was being excited to perform
the task and worked hard. One of our team member denied to work with us this made us work
harder. I was the team leader so I made my team work better. All the group members contributed
positively and made this team work successful. All the team members have shown dedication
towards their work. We all were being afraid when one of our member left the group but as a
team leader I motivated my team to work efficiently (Farahani, Firouzi, and Chakrabarty, 2020).
Analysis
I think when Mrs. E lost her daughter she should consult a doctor because losing her
daughter was very difficult for her and made her suffered mentally as well physically. Losing her
daughter was such a mental trauma for her. I wish a care taker could be there for her to give her
medicines and all the requirements she needed (Corbyn, and Vianello, 2018). The appropriate
medication could improve her health so early. Working in a team made me realise that every
team has its own strength and weaknesses and we need to work on our weaknesses. Working in a
group made me realise that being aware of group think in the further tasks will be helpful in
group work. Group link means members of a team in a group is not raising or putting different
opinions. Specialist should be consulted to get better treatment. Children need to care more about
their parents because they need it. They should make their parents visit to health care
professional for the regular check-up so they can get appropriate medicines. All the instruction
given by the doctor need to followed strictly. Patient do not take medicines on time can make the
condition critical. I think if Mrs. E sent her husband to care centre it would be better and he
would get better treatment. Sending her husband to care centre could make the things easier to
her and she could take care of herself too (Kang and Moran, 2020).

CONCLUSION
From the above case study, I have concluded that it is difficult to face any difficulty when
a person is alone but is it required to be strong to deal with such situation. Patient care is required
to improve the patient health. Appropriate medications and health care facilities can improve the
patient health. Mental health also affects the physical stability thus it is required to focus on
mental health too. Taking care of diet and medicines is really beneficial for improving health
condition. All the health care management should be planned using the effective reflection
model.
