The overall goal of communication in healthcare
professions is to improve the quality of care and
patient satisfaction. It enables healthcare
professional to determine the patient's needs and
solve patient problems proactively.
Communication is therefore meant to ensure that
patients receive the most appropriate care by
their needs. Besides, it also serves to minimize

Self-awareness is an important tool for effective
communication with patients and colleagues. It
entails being aware of how individual behaviors,
emotions, and thoughts affect others. Through
self-awareness, i will be able to manage myself
during communications to ensure that other
parties do not feel excluded from the
communication. It will also help me to understand
others more clearly. Finally, self-awareness will
enable me to listen to others without making
judgments and assumptions (Civico, 2014).

I will undertake certain practices to continue
self development in my education and
career. The first practice will be daily self-
reflection. Taking the time to look at myself
daily will help me improve. Besides, i will
make use of mindfulness habits including
meditation (Develop Good Habits, 2019).
These two will help in improving my mindful
awareness.
Continuous development of self-awareness
