1HEALTHCARE AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
Being a nursing student and having studied core nursing and healthcare, it is not very
difficult to grasp that the basic obstacles in the way of proper healthcare are access problems,
costs and disparities in income. Some of the basic problems related with health and
development is the lack of hygiene and awareness in the community, among people who lack
basic education, come from backward communities and war torn areas. Previously, I have
made use of my in-depth research in the various social factors, the chunk of which has
contributed towards my understanding that there still exist countless limitations and
possibilities get access to proper healthcare in the weaker section of the society.
However, I have taken a number of steps in order to serve the immediate community
of children and old people suffering from malnutrition at third world countries. At times I
have ventured beyond my current employment of working as a part time nurse, for instance
uring my tour to war torn countries, I have formulated ways by which I will be able to
provide nursing and healthcare to enrich the lives of the communities who suffer from lack of
hygiene and sanitation problems resulting in tuberculosis and diarrhea. WHO estimated that
87% of the world population have limited or no access to improved water resources and more
than 1.1 billion people, due to lack of knowledge, defecate in the open thereby contaminating
the water and food resources. This has spread diseases like impetigo and ringworm. I have
provided field support and basic food and medicines so that the conditions do not aggravate
any further. I have served the community by teaching them how to become aware of the
potential threats and dangers associated with no hand-washing, the presence of the toxic
agents like hydrogen cyanide, ricin, arsenic in the environment and the importance of
following a strict hygiene especially in the places adjacent to food. I have assembled
campaigns where I have shown them posters and presentation on the hazards of lack of
hygiene and the possible dangers like scabies, cholera, Hepatitis A and more. The community

has also shown sufficient awareness and a positive response after being provided with these
visual means.
Additionally, I have provided the community with free check up to evaluate the extent
of harm that lack of hygiene and exposure to toxic has already caused in the body of the
children aged between 2-10 year and old people with age range of 60-89 year. I have
introduced in the community a shared consciousness, to bring a feeling of coherence in their
lives through my healthcare campaigns. In this way the people of the under-privileged section
have benefitted themselves and understood the importance of free healthcare checkups and
communicating their needs to healthcare personnel.
As I have always aspired to be a nurse working overseas, I would initiate child
education and development. I would contribute the advantages of nursing degree to the
community and it will be my primary goal to ensure that they develop into conscious human
beings by providing primary education, free healthcare checkups and commodities like soaps.
I would apply my practical and theoretical knowledge for my future plans by conducting
detailed field survey in order to see how many people are adhering to the norms and
regulations of hygiene. A significant rise in percentage of people sticking to hygiene rules
would ensure my success and contribution to the community.
