INTRODUCTION
Health care is an organised provision of medical care to the person or a community or
refers to the efforts that medical professionals make to restore the physical provision of services
in order to maintain the emotional well-being. The fundamental purpose of health care is to
enhance the quality of life for taking care of human being (Clark, 2017). This respective report is
based on the case study in which the Mrs. Wang is the patient with lung cancer and having the
symptoms of lose of weight, persistent cough and breathlessness and her first language is
Mandarin and she also understand some English and she hesitate to speak and prefers to speak
about her health and well-being in Mandarin. She is having two son who is accompanying with
her throughout her treatments and give some interpretation for her to communicate in Mandarin.
This respective report will cover the ethical concept and the use of power to take care of Mrs.
Wang and support employ to support and her dignity. Moreover, It will analyse the professionals
responsible maintain effective communication and the use of interpersonal skills includes
compassion, respect and dignity. Lastly, The reflection is being done that how the case study has
contributed to the learning ability and self development.

Ethical principles defines the identification of the individual and as a society so that there
are norms and behaviour that must be followed by everyone. It is the autonomy or the duty of
respect and leads to promote the individual's choice in achieving what they are believe to be in
their best interests. As per the given case study, There are various ethical principles that helps the
nurse to take care of the Mrs. Wang for treating their lungs cancer and also taking full
consideration of taking care of their dignity while treating them are explained as follows:
 Integrity: It is the aspects which defines the ethical principles and act in good manner
with the consideration of having fairness and honesty during their work. In context to
NHS Foundation, all the caretakers or the nurses must have the integrity in their working
so that they can treat their patience in ethical manner (Champney, 2019).
 Accountability: It defines the responsibility of the person to take care one's actions,
decisions and the certain consequences so that all the work can be managed in a right

approach. IN context to NHS foundation, nurses must have the accountability about the
regular check-up of Mrs. Wang so that all the recoveries or the certain problems can be
effectively recorded and managed.
 Independence and impartiality: the individual must have the personal view and
convictions do not compromise their ethical principles, duties, official or the personal
interest of NHS foundation. In addition to this, when the nurse is having the impartiality
with their patients so that they can effectively treat Mrs. Wang for their lung cancer.
 Respect: The individual must have the equality, diversity, privacy, dignity and worth so
that they can work in changing situations and this can be rightly managed by the nurse so
that they can treat their patients in right approach. This also helps in having the main
consideration to complete their job in an appropriate manner.
 Beneficence: The main aim of this principles is to serve the patients by not harming the
morale and the culture of the individual so that they can work or act for the benefits of the
patients and support and depends the rights of others, prevent harms and recurse the
person from danger. In relation to treat the Mrs. Wang, the nurse must Known with her
local language so that nurse can make them understand in an appropriate
manner(Calloway-Thomas, Arasaratnam-Smith and Deardorff, 2017).
 Non-maleficence: This is the principles which is having the obligation of treating the
patient without giving any harm and simply stated principle which leads to support the
moral rules includes do not cause to pain, do not kill, do not cause to offense of
someone's life. The main consideration of treating their patients and analysing such
obligation so the best way to analyse the application of this principles is to weight the
benefits against burden of all the treatment which is being given to Mrs. Wang while
treating their lungs cancer.
 Autonomy: As per this principles, all the persons is having some intrinsic and
unconditional worth and hence, they must have the power to make the rational decisions
and the morals choices and allowed to exercise his or her capacity of having self-
determination. It says that “ every human being of adult years and sound mind has right
to determine what should be done with his own body”. In context to NHS Foundation,

Nurses and the staff will take care of their patients in an appropriate manner and Mrs.
Wang having Lung cancer so she can be treated better with the principle of Autonomy.
 Justice: These are the general aspects of the individual who is having the consideration
of appropriate treatment to the patients and category which is related to the fair and
appropriate distribution to the individual which also helps the nurses to treat their patients
in an appropriate manner. In context to NHS foundation, Nurse will treat their patients in
an right manner and also leads to manage their patients with their appropriate skills.
 Human rights:It is related to the rights of the patients which is being given overall
period of time so that they can effectively manage the certain aspects in performing the
services in an appropriate manner. It is related to the human rights that is being used by
them in order to manage them properly with right approach. It is related to the main
consideration of the employees so that they can having the
 Duty of care: This is the responsibility of the nurse to have the proper care of their
patients so that they can effectively manage their work with the right approach and also
leading to have the best treatment of Mrs. Wang for the development of the healthcare
services. In context to NHS Foundation, they are using this principles in order to are their
patients so that they can effectively manage their duties of care towards the patients.
 Duty of candour: This can be sad according to this principles that every healthcare
professional must be open minded, honest and patients so that they can have the right
approach in order to have the best treatment of their patients in the hospital and they can
feel valued and satisfied with the same. In context to NHS Foundation, they are having
the best approach in the market by which they can perform each task with right skill and
having honest to be performed in the right direction so their patients feel valued and
satisfied with the given treatment for the same.
Rights of Nurse while treating their Patients
 The Right dose: when the clinical staff are sure that they are using the correct medicine
in order to treat their patient and cure from the respective disease. This also leads better
establishment of identify of the clients and they must check the strength and form of

medicine. The staff must check the expire date and the related package or individual
blister packs are intact and the certain medicine that must be kept in the correct storage
conditions.
 The right person: It is necessary for the person to identify the correct person before
guessing the certain medicine and ensures that it must not be overstated. To ensure that
the medicine is given to the person is intended for the clinicians must use a minimum of
three identifications that includes the client name, date of birth, hospital record number,
address and cultural and country conventions that includes the aboriginal or bush name.
 The right time: It is necessary to give the right dose on right time so that it is related to
the betterment of the patients and Mr. Wang is suffering lung cancer so time of the dose
plays an important role in the development of the business. This also helps the NHS
Foundation which also leading to have appropriate treatment of the patients(Clark, 2019).
How the professionals responsible to maintain effective communication by using their
interpersonal skills
Effective communication is an ability to to convey the information or message to other person
efficiently and effectively. It is about understand the instructions in the same form as ith
communicator want to say it can be verbal or non verbal communication.
 Verbal communication- It is related with the spoken words as it very essential in a
healthcare context. The members of a multi disciplinary health care teams can
communicate verbally with each others and patients as well as their family members. In
this case, the patient do not about English language. In this situation the nurse should
communicate with him in his language or she can use a translator that helps them to
understand each others talks and make the communication easy and understand able. The
nurse should talk to patient respectfully in such a manner that it does not hot the patient's
feelings or emotions(Hicks, 2018).
 No verbal communication- In this communication, there is use of body language and
other communication form rather than spoken words such as gesture, facial expressions
and other etc. in this, the nurse can use the body language to make understand the patient
of learn such types of expression the is effective to understand their feeling or thoughts.

They can use the sign language. Nurse can understand the patient by looking the
incongruent behaviour of the patient and by focusing on his tone that what he want to
say. They should focus on the signal as a whole to make the communication effective.
Interpersonal skills to maintain dignity and respect
This skills is the behaviour and other practices that are used by a person to interact with someone
effectively. It is the most sought after the soft skill. In case of a patient, the nurse should have
some skill that are given below:
Active listening- During speaking to a patient, the nurse should listen them carefully to
understand that what the patient is trying to say. The nurse must pay full attention on the patient's
words and focus on context of patient without thinking about their own experience and feelings.
It is very crucial in healthcare setting as the patient in a vulnerable position.
Empathy- The nurse should show some empathy to their patient. During asking a question with
them the nurse should be aware of the body language and be curious about the patients. She
should recognise that how the patients feels and know their fear or anger. They should support
the patient by responding to emotional an the medical needs(Pless, Maak and Harris, 2017).
Have patience- Due to the illness, age and cognitive difficulties a patient speak more and slowly
than others. In such a situation, the nurse should give them their time to move and give answer of
their question. The nurse must have some patient and keep their sentence short to explaining
them to the patients.
Different strategy to support individual's respect and dignity
Respect and dignity for patient is a long established principles of healthcare system. It is
a quality of being worthy or the respect and esteem that refers to the personal sense of connected
with a person's self esteem and the perceptions of being respected by the other peoples. It include
the patient's privacy, their autonomy, emotional support and other etc.
 Speak respectfully- The nurse should talk to their patient very respectfully and in a
understandable manner. She must talk to him in a way that, the patient does get panic and
show some empathy to that patient. Talk with the patient in a respective manner that
make fell them valued and self respective. Nurse should build a trust within the patient
that he can trust her and listen her carefully.

 Protect physical privacy of patient- The nurse must maintain the dignity of patient by
ensuring that they remain fully covered during providing acre. Keep a patient cover at the
time of giving them a bath and do not share hos physical illness with somebody. Nurse
should maintain self respect of the patient and reduce the feeling of indignity. These
efforts of health care system make feel the patient comfortable and feel like their are
respected and valued(Wherry, Seefeldt and Alvarez, 2019).
 Protect personal information- The nurse should not gossip about the patient or their
family. There personal information should leak n some serious issues or problems that
can impact the patient life and create a problem for the family members.
 Create a respectful environment- At the end patient's life a peaceful environment
should be created to maintain patient dignity in their final hour. Make feel the patient
very comfortable and set his mood with ensuring their religious needs. It is way to ensure
the patient and the medical professionals has a respective and productive environment.

Gibbs' reflective cycle
This model is a continuous cycle of an improvement to repeat experience and used to
reflect a stand alone experience. It's key things is an acknowledgement of importance of the
feelings in reflection. This model contain six stage which are given below:
 Description- In this, an individual describe a situation in the details and concern about
such as what happened, where did it happen, what did peoples do, what was the outcome
of situation and what they want to happen etc. I am a nurse at Guy's and St Thomas NHS
Foundation Trust and working with lung cancer. I am taking care of a cancer patients
because he is at end stage and does not have very long live.
 Feelings- It is about how an individual feel at a time and how it impact their emotions. It
explore the feelings and thoughts that an individual had during their experience an how
they get affected by this. Before to come here I was nervous and did not feel so confident
that I can handle the patients, because I have no enough experience to handle this of
situation.

 Evaluation- In this, an individual has a chance to evaluate that what things worked and
what things did not worked in a particular situation. This situation has both the positive
and negative aspects. While I am experiencing this situation there are positive and
negative elements that have led an increased understanding of this work and my role as a
nurse. I feel that I had fulfil my responsibility completely.
 Analysis- It is that stage, in which an individual has a chance to make the sense that
what happened. They focused on every details around all happing sin the situation. They
can extract the meaning form it. During gaining this experience, I have struggle a lot
such as language barriers and communication gap. But with the time I have learned that
how to communicate with the patient
 Conclusion- In this, an individual reach at the final conclusion that what happened. At
this stage, they summarise their learning and highlight all changes to their action could
improve the result in future.
From this experience, mow I am more mindful of an importance to being an assertive and exert
professionalism in work practice. I learn here a lot and gained much experience as now I am
more aware about implication of not performing immediately and the significance of acting in a
best way or interest of patient.
 Action plan- In this, an individual plan for they would do something different if a similar
situation arise in future. It can be is helpful to think that how they will help there selves to
act differently. In future, I will be more proactive to deal with these types of situation. I
can understand a patient who do not know English as I learned about how to
communi9cate with these kind of patients.
CONCLUSION
From the above report it is concluded that the health care system or nurse should deal
with the patient very efficiently an in a respectful manner. They must take care about the patient
needs and understand their feelings. For this they should have a good communication skill and
able to easily understand the oat6ientrs feelings. There should be the facility to protect the patient
personal informations and physical information. Their issues should kept personal. And show
some empathy toward the patient to make feel them respect and being valued. They also should
take care of patient's religions and create an environment in which the patient become

comfortable and fell very supportive. They should take care their emptions and take care them in
every way.
