Literature Review
AI Summary
This literature review critically analyzes the application of evidence-based practices (EBP) in healthcare, emphasizing their role in improving patient outcomes and resource utilization. It discusses the importance of nurses understanding scientific research and critique methodologies like CASP (Critical Appraisal Skills Programme), which includes systematic reviews, randomized controlled trials, qualitative research, economic evaluation studies, and cohort studies. The review evaluates the strengths and weaknesses of each CASP tool in assessing healthcare interventions. Additionally, it provides a critical appraisal of a research article focusing on LGBT individuals' healthcare experiences, highlighting the article's strengths in utilizing qualitative research but also noting weaknesses in literature review structure, data analysis clarity, and the absence of visual aids. Desklib provides a platform to access this and other solved assignments.

CRITICAL ANALYSIS
INTRODUCTION
Evidence based practices sets the principles and guidelines for the health care departments. It
ensures that the activities are taken in account in hospitals are concerned with those guidelines
that has been set for the healthcare departments in order to ensure the safety of the patients. It has
been considered as the most important practices as it helps in improving the patient outcomes. It

also plays a major role in ensuring that the health resources have been used in effective manner.
The consistent use of EBP results in the best decision making by the healthcare department in
order to increase the potential of the patients. These practices work on the concept of “Increasing
patient values. The inclusion of the evidence practices in nursing department enables the nurses
in order to understand the scientific research. (Halvorsen and et.al., 2020). With the help of these
practices, the nurses can become aware about the protocols that has been set for the care of the
patient. It is mandatory for nursing department to have a knowledge regarding the critique
different types of research as it forming the decision regarding the treatment of the patients. A
proper knowledge regarding the different research leads to choose the best one that is suitable for
the betterment of the patient and along with this, it ensures the security of the patients.
CASP is one the most important concept in terms of understanding and performing the
critiquing tools applications by the nurses. CASP refers to the critical appraisal skill
programmes. The tools that have been used under the CASP are systematic review, randomized
controlled trials, qualitative research, economic evaluation studies and cohort studies. Systematic
reviews refer to evaluating and collecting the evidences regarding the same type of treatments in
the hospitals. This tool helps in providing the collective study of the all cases but, on the other
hand it is hard to link all different cases. Many times, those cases that seems same that are
different. As every patient has different capability of going through the treatment. Randomized
controlled traits refers to examine the effectiveness of the treatment. (Gallagher and et.al., 2020).
This tool is not based on any theory. It directly shows the outcome of the treatment. This ensures
no biasness in knowing of the evidences as it directly based on the outcomes of the treatment but,
many times the outcomes can be shown wrong by the staff in order to maintain the goodwill of
the hospitals.
Qualitative research helps in knowing the live experience of the patients by the nurses.
Under this, the quality care has been given to the patients and their health status itself works as
the evidence. This research is based on the observing of patient. This tool is extremely valuable
in knowing the exact accuracy of evidence. But, it is hard to observe all patients individually as it
becomes lengthy process. This thing works as the barrier under this tool. The economic
evaluation studies help in the evidence decision making by providing a guidance to the leaders
about the public health. (Collaborative and et.al., 2017). This study enables the healthcare
departments to know whether their activities are providing good outcome to the patients or not.

This leads to the effective use of the resources by the nurses for the patients. It has been found
from various studies that the economic evaluation studies provide less accuracy in terms of
evidence as it involves the community of the patient rather than the individual patient. Cohort
study refers to collecting the evidences on a large scale which includes large number of patients.
The large number of patients has been covered under this in order to know the accuracy of
evidence that is linked to all. (Brownson and et,al., 2017). This is a time-consuming process and
the extra effort is required in order to perform cohort study and the accuracy is moderate under
this.
PAPER 1
Critical appraisal
There are different types of methods and approaches available that has been utilized by
the key researchers in order to conduct varied practices in the context of strategic research, which
are based on specific topic or concept. It can be critically evaluated that the aim and objective of
an article that is “LGBT individual’s opinions about their health care experiences”, is
successfully meet as research in the regard to their investigation has been utilized qualitative
research type, through which they gather relevant data about the topic as it is quite general which
information is gather via phenomenological techniques such as current one. The chosen research
approach or type may provide them a lot of benefits in term of saving time to conduct SPSS,
which is a time consuming method as it encompasses numeric data that is not easy to interpretate
or utilize for purpose of data interpretation. The introduction section of this article is well
structured as it defines the highlight part which researcher tend to cover in their report and also
effort to describe in term of findings. They have also chosen the most appropriate sample, who
may answer research questions appropriately and accurately (Ntelis and Linos, 2020).
On the other hand, the weaknesses of this research is that researcher segregate the
literature review sections into two themes, which might be lacking clear information or stating
the same in effective manner. It is quite important for researchers to design more themes on the
basis of research topic as it clearly define the info about concept, for which they work hard and
conduct all activities. Literature review section or chapter play important role to make reader
aware about what has been covered and need to discuss in a particular investigation. The
conclusion section is also limited in term of data. The data analysis part is also unclear as it

stated few information about participants responds that are not clearly descried (De Cieri and
Lazarova, 2021). It is also essential for a researcher to utilize different types research methods,
such as research philosophy, data analysis, ethical consideration, etc. All these things cover in
qualitative research, which are lacking in given research or article. Graphs or any type of
diagram are missing, which is essential to encompasses in any research-based work, that play
critical role to clearly define how many respondents are in favour of right option.
