Introduction
For the current report, the video of Shawn Achor, who has discussed about some practical
strategies of maintaining happiness in our life. The speaker has attempted to describe concept the
happiness using the idea of positive psychology. The modern society is highly obsessed with the
notion of success in the career, which most of us feel is the only source of happiness. The
speaker however, has challenged the normal notion by providing scientific evidences. The
current report will attempt to describe the same along with its practical applicability in modern
human life.
Importance of practicing happiness mentioned in the video
In the normal study of psychology, people attempt to study the cause of disability within
an individual and attempt them to suggest normal strategies. This is aimed to incorporate the
normal lifestyle habits that will help them to gain the skills of an average individual. In this
context, the speaker has highlighted one of the hidden truth of psychology business, where the
counselors in order to retain the client falsely identifies more mental issues of the patients.
As a psychological researcher the speaker attempts to study the people, who in general
seem to have unusual behavior. This has helped him to acquire essential information related to
the hidden talents of the people, who have beyond average skills.
One of the important matters that have been said in the video is that happiness in life is

same with help of military assistance. Nevertheless, in longer terms of life, the speaker could not

the speaker has learned to look at the viewpoints of life at different perspectives. This has helped
him to focus in on the science of happiness in different perspectives.

The main point emphasized on the video is about the traditional definition of happiness.
The speaker has encouraged the viewers to change the overall thought process that will help in
the matters of reducing stress about career success. The idea of positive psychology has been
given major priority within the given context. The brain perceives the element of happiness in
the way the society provides feedbacks. For example, it is essential to deal with the matters
related with that of the success by re-considering the factors associated with the same. This can
be done by bringing our focus back to the inner elements that can be controlled rather the
external uncontrolled elements.
According to his research only 10% of happiness depends on external elements of a
human life. The rest 90% of the long-term happiness of depends on our internal ability to
interpret the reality. Hence, we need to change our inner thinking capability about the reality.
This is also needed to change the formula of success. It can be said that 25% of the job success is
dependent only on the IQ level and rest 75% depends on the ability to deal with individual
optimism and the level of social support (Achor, 2018).
All these elements are considered as essential components related to the practice of the
course materials that are related to the mental well-being of an individual. With the element of

deal with higher stress and thinking levels.
Application of practicing happiness in personal life
Being an academic student, I am always under the stress of securing higher grades, which
is the normal definition of success according to the norms of the society. We often tend to
compare our performance with that of the others. Failing to get ahead in the race, we often feel
de-motivated and remain unhappy. However, instead of competing with others, it is essential to
set up an individual target that will help us to achieve success at small scale. It is also important
for every child to focus on the matters related to social gatherings and social skills. This is
essential as 75% of our success level is dependent on elements related to that of social skills
rather than IQ. This element will also help to achieve greater level of happiness in the long run of
life (Achor, 2018).
Spite of the fact that the content of the video defies with the normal view point of an
individual, I do strongly agree with the message that has been given as it will help me to focus of
a long term goal. There will be initial challenge in order to counter the normal viewpoint of
happiness and success. Nevertheless, with practicing the techniques that has been mentioned in
the videos which includes brain exercises, I do feel that I will be able to focus on the long term
needs to acquire the ultimate happiness.

Challenges imposed by the video
The video content has indeed challenged the normal viewpoints of an individual as the
speaker has insisted to look into the reality from internal prescribes. The normal philosophical
believe related to success and happiness has also been challenged. The speaker even has
highlighted upon the negative effects of business model in psychology, where the patients are
falsely diagnosed with extra symptoms. This can have a negative impact of on the mentality of
the patient as they are having lower level of self confidence.
However I got personally I do prefer the philosophy that has been highlighted in the
video. Even though it does challenge my personal opinion about success, I can have the ability to
understand the perspective of the people. In order to deal incorporate the new habits I will have
to challenge my regular lifestyle practices.
Powerful message of the video
As mentioned earlier the main significant message that has been mentioned within the
video is to change the normal perspectives about thinking the matters related to that of the
happiness and success. The speaker has mentioned about a physical exercise that will include
training our brain. For a span of 21 days at a stretch we have write down three things for which
we are grateful. This will help our brain to focus on the positive aspects of life. As the brain is
able feed with positive news, it will help in the matters of improving the level of mental health.

Scientifically, it has been proven that as we focus on positive matters, it will help our
brain to feel the pleasure sensation. This brain training exercise will also generate the positive
feelings and can cause real revolution of happiness (Achor, 2018).

In the concluding note it can be said that the concept of happiness is dependent upon
individual perspective. It is important for us to focus on the positive matters of life, which would
help for brain to generate the sensation of happiness. Most of the positive feelings that are being
generated are due to internal factors rather than external happenings. It is therefore essential to
practice the mindfulness, which will help in the matter of dealing with the issues related to stress
and depression of normal life.
