Introduction
Health is the most important constrain of everyone’s life. Everyone is so much concern about
their health because “health is wealth”. “Health Informatics” is a new concept which means
technology is used to analyse and organize the outcomes of the healthcare. Because of
increase in pollution and global warming there are many new diseases which are causing to
people and for that there is a need for up-gradation in medical technologies so that treatment
can be found as soon as possible (Daniele, et al., 2014). In this essay a focus will be on the
role and future of informatics and advantages and drawbacks of connected health.
Nursing Informatics
“Nursing Informatics” is the term which is used in many aspects such as patient care,
computer science, and security, information science, e-learning and tele-nursing. In this
digital age technology also has great importance in nursing and health care. It can enhance
the quality of nursing and hence it will create a positive impact on healthcare department
(Darvish, Bahramnezhad, & Navidhamid, 2014).
Nursing is considered to be one of the most aspects from patient view because nurses are the
ones who took care of the patient’s most. Since technology is evolving, this department
should also evolve with time. This would help in improving the quality of nursing. In the
recent years, informatics nursing has become very popular.
The role of informatics nursing encompasses improving nursing care and keeping the patient
data safe. It will improve the nursing care and it will also keep the data of patient safe. It will
also enhance the knowledge of nurse. It also enhances along with playing a crucial role in
preparing information charts. Apart from this, nursing informatics helps in design, selection,
and implementation as well as evaluation of the health care system. It also brings forth the

application of technology in identification of problems like changes in patient status, health
record and many more (Lee, 2014).
Connected Health
“Connected health” is also known as Technology enabled care (TER). This technology is
used for providing better healthcare services. This model is also used for healthcare
management. This will help doctors to drive more integrated healthcare treatment to patients.
Connected health is the technique to improve traditional method of healthcare this technique
will only concentrate on patient’s health (Pal, 2016).
There are some advantages and disadvantages of connected health which are follows:
Advantages
a) Improvement in healthcare
Connected health used devices will directly benefit the patient. It will also result in
more personalised care of the patient and the most important part is that devices can
easily detect the smallest part of the disease and treatment can be done before it
become more serious. The devices which are used in connected health come under the
category of Internet of Medical things (IoMT).
b) Effectiveness
Connected health care devices are considered to be the most effective devices. These
devices will also help in tracking the health of the patient. If there is anything is
affecting the health of the patient negatively, it will give notification to the doctors to
make the necessary changes. This will also provide more frequent reports to doctors
(Sangar, 2019).

Disadvantages
a) Costly
Using specially qualified devices is not an easy task and for that highly qualified
doctors will be required. Installing these machineries will involve huge cost and
sometime these requirements cannot be met. Not only this highly specific skill set is
also required and it a tough process.
b) Privacy
Since there are millions of devices which are involved in this process therefore,
anyone can easily interrupt the details of patients. Details of patients financial and
health issue are very sensitive matter and it should have a high security. (Newmarker,
2018).

L’Oreal is a famous cosmetic brand which is now experimenting with creating
wearable patches to detect pH levels. The D-free is using ultrasound monitor bladder
function. Companies which manufactured wearable products are more likely to use
artificial importance (Buntz, 2019).
2. Current Health
This company is also using artificial intelligence to develop a wearable remote patient
monitoring device. This technology will help in reading the algorithms of patient
psychology which is used to identify patient’s health. UK health care such as Dartford
and Gravesham NHS trust are also using this technology (Buntz, 2019).

Verily is using this technology in a shoe that will defect falls. This will help to
monitor the blood sugar level of the individual without using any app or smartphone.
It will also help the doctor’s to have an insight of the patient’s diet (Buntz, 2019).
Impact of Informatics on Public Health
Informatics has impacted public health in many ways which includes creating awareness,
improving healthcare condition, management and many more. Not only in clinic but
informatics is also helpful in managerial functions as it helps in maintaining data of the
patients and it also helps in managing the track records of the patient and along with keeping
it updated. With the impact of informatics, public health has become more. Earlier, there
were incurable diseases, which can now, with the help of this technology, be cured.
Informatics is the link which connects nursing, science, computer science, and information
science in nursing practices (Sweeney, 2017). In United States there was a workshop
conducted in by Public health Informatics Institute in which the challenges and the aims for
next 10 years were be discussed. Many experts have been involved in it to find these
challenges. To improve the effectiveness it is required to collaborate with both public and
private sector. Health Informatics is related to biomedical and clinical informatics. There are
several software used by doctors to maintain the health record and in maintaining stability in
a person’s health. Since health informatics improves the communication and information
system it will be helpful in improving the health of the patient. There are several examples
which can be used in context of this topic:
a) Integrated Delivery Systems
In this system proper data of patients can be maintained and with this technology
childhood immunization records or pneumonia shots can be easily detected.
Furthermore, it can ease up health tracking for all. ( Al-Saddique, 2018).

b) HIMMS
Health Information and Management System Society provides the practical guidelines
for the treatment of diseases. It also helps in receiving and analysing disease with the
help of electronic health and with electronic reports (Edmunds, 2014).
c) Nursing
With the increase in awareness of Informatics nursing has also become advanced. As
nursing is all about care, with the help of informatics more personalised care can be
provided to patients, which will ultimately result in better care and support for the
patients. Nurses are responsible for taking care of the patient personally and they
know the condition of the patient. This department should be given more advanced
technology.
Conclusion
With the increase in technology healthcare department has also updated itself. There are
several technologies which are used in treatment of patients and several changes have been
made so that patients can be given more care and better treatment. There are several
treatments which are now modified with the current situations. There are some positive
aspects of adopting informatics in healthcare because it also helps in creating awareness
among people of several diseases and as were highlighted in the previous parts of this
discussion.
