Due to the increased use of Advance technology, there has been much improvement in
the healthcare system and Organization. The technologies used for not only the diagnosis or
treatment purpose but also the collection of data and information and records saving in the
system.
At present most healthcare organizations have implemented the electronic health record
system, which is used to save documents, data, and all the medical information of the patient.
This provides easiness for healthcare professionals as well as for the patient. EHR systems
also aid in preventing medical errors. Firstly, the system can accurately calculate data
involving body mass index for anesthetic effects. Secondly, data can be accessed in a short
time and allow easy access to health data (such as remotely by doctors) (Raposo, 2015).
Although the EHR system has replaced the paper system, there is always a risk of
misuse of data or privacy violations. Unauthorized access to patient information can occur.
For instance, authorized personnel with access privileges like a nurse may be tempted to
access patient data that is only meant only for the doctor. On the other hand, data such as
health and genetic can attract several industries, and such information can attract hackers and
lead to cyber-attacks (Raposo, 2015). This can be reduced or decreased through data
encryption, password implementation, etc. Doctors and nurses using keyboard and mouse to
enter data can make data entry errors involving dates, quantities, vital signs, or other details
and lead to poor data interpretation, wrong prescriptions, and adverse health outcomes
(Bowman, 2013).
The use of the EHR system has been proved better outcomes as it is time-saving as well
as provides all the information in a particular place. It also gives relief to the patients as they
need not provide all the information again on the revisiting the healthcare organization. It has
reduced the workload on healthcare professionals.
