This report analyzes the US healthcare system, focusing on the impact of health insurance coverage and employer-paid benefits. It identifies the misalignment of incentives within the current system, where employers often act as the primary economic consumers of healthcare services. The report argues for the need for broad access to affordable health insurance, independent of employer-provided plans, and recommends government intervention to address this issue. It emphasizes the importance of federal government involvement in budgeting and controlling healthcare costs. The report also references relevant literature, including works by Folland (2016) and Cleverley & Cleverley (2017) to support its analysis and recommendations.

HEALTHCARE
The issue that has drawn the most attention in recent times pertaining to the health
care system of the US is health insurance coverage. There is an urgent need for broad access
to health insurance coverage that is affordable and such coverage must have no connection
with the conventional employer-paid health insurance coverage. In a system where the
employees receive health insurance coverage as an element of employer-paid benefit, the
employer becomes the real economic consumer of the care services and not the patient. This
model allows an employee to gain health care services on the basis of their actual incremental
out of pocket cost. The costs that their care would actually be is not known to the individual.
If this system is abolished, healthcare would not be consumed based on the pocket costs
encountered (Folland, 2016). The misalignment of incentives is a key concern. The
recommended health insurance coverage would address the concern that the incentives given
to the employer who is supposed to health coverage for the employees are different from that
given to a patient buying the coverage for himself.
The federal government must be taking initiatives for bringing about the
recommended change. Questions might arise regarding the feasibility of the solution
proposed; however, the help received from the federal government would be path-changing
in this regard. Budgeting of the healthcare insurance costs is crucial in this regard that only
the federal government can address for cutting down the unnecessary expenses. The
government funded solution would be highly solicited in this regard (Cleverley & Cleverley,
2017).
