This research report is a review of an interview which was performed on a fellow peer who
works in a different health discipline and pursuing the course of leadership. The major
purpose of the review is to derive a suitable understanding about professional identity in
healthcare sector. The interview consists of a set of questions on professionalism such as the
role of the member, professionalism, steward of healthcare, leadership. In the end, a suitable
implication has been derived.
Healthcare Team Member Role
In the interview, it has been learnt that team member who has been interviewed is a general
practitioner who in general works in somewhere in LA, USA. Being a general practitioner,
the member provides all sort of activities such as treating all common medical conditions and
referring patients to hospitals as well as other medical service for both urgent and special
treatment. The member also plays the role of observing the health of whole individual
combining psychological as well as sociological aspects. The General practitioner also states
that fact “I am doing it for gaining an initial experience in health treatment but in future I
would like to diversify my career or choose a particular path of treatment”. During the
interview, team member has also mentioned the fact that healthcare is a broad area which
requires more steadiness.
Professionalism
In the interview, the team member has mentioned the fact that professionalism is always a
fundamental element in the practice of medicine. In the interview, the team has revealed the
fact that learning to demonstrate professional behaviour and developing a professional
identity are the most ongoing challenges. During the learning period of my career, I have
found the fact that professional etiquette is one of the most significant factors contributing to

a great success in healthcare profession. “I must state the fact that healthcare professional
must have to set the tone for the interaction with the patients and visitors as well”.
Stewards of Healthcare
According to the perspectives of team member, supervisor and leaders in the organization are
basically stewards of health. ‘I must state the fact that supervisors and leaders in the
organization deals with greater responsibility of healthcare’. Thus, it is worth stating that
leaders hold the ability of being the stewards of healthcare for several reasons. “I believe that
leaders in the organization possess the ability of influencing employee, patients and develop
new ways to enhance the performance or organizational effectiveness.
Leadership
When it comes to leadership, it is worth mentioning that leader must possess a set of
managerial and people management skills which can be followed by others in the
organization. The team member in the interview stated the fact “leaders play a major role of
ensuring direction, alignment and commitment within the teams and the organization”. So,
when it is deciphered that direction tend to ensure cooperation and agreement among people
with respect to organization’s values, views and strategy.
Conclusion
On the basis of the findings of the interview, it can be mentioned that professionalism and
leadership both can be practiced and implemented in any healthcare career. It is inappropriate
to state that a person following a healthcare career is not supposed to gain leadership skills.
All individual under certain profession can be a good leader.
